K/R: Sanctuary Peacock Feather Print Blouse

Ok I know I keep copying other people, but when Nancylee wore this Sanctuary peacock feather print blouse I knew I had to try it too. It is green with gold feathers on it, and is the same as the lining of the Sanctuary fur vests that I tried on (I thought it looked so cool reversed with the print on the outside), but the fur vests didn't work for me. I ordered two sizes because I wasn't sure what size I needed. So, what do you think? Is this style too voluminous and maternity like on me or does it look OK?

I feel like the XS fits better up top at the bust, but may be just a tiny bit short in the front (it doesn't completely cover the crotch area like the S). The back is longer so it does cover my butt though. (Sorry for the wrinkles, I haven't ironed it yet). The buttons are nice and tight.

The S is longer so I feel more comfortable with the length in front and it seems like it drapes better. But I don't feel as comfortable wearing it because the straps that hold the buttons are a little long/loose so they pull apart easily, and the V hangs very low (the buttons are between my breasts instead of higher on the chest) so I'm afraid of overexposing myself. I don't think it would be good for a MOTG top if I'm worried about the buttons popping open (the XS doesn't seem to have this problem). The problem is this blouse is very hard to find, so I don't think I can find another one in this size. I think I'd go with the XS unless you think it looks funny on me.

Also, here is another gray and black dolman sleeve peacock print blouse (Ella Moss from Nordstrom) that I am pretty sure I'm keeping for a casual MOTG top. I'm putting it in between the two sizes so you can tell which is which.

1-5. Sanctuary size XS
6. Ella Moss size S
7-9. Sanctuary size S

Can you pop a long tank under 1 to extend the length and cover the V a little bit? Honestly I am not really loving any of these... they look a little frumpy. What do you think?

Hi GP --

I really like the shape of #6 on you -- you're getting a bit lost in fabric with both sizes of the other style.

If you really want to duplicate I'd keep looking for a version that has those warm muted colors you wear so well but a shape closer to the EM through at least one area (arms or torso).

I'm not loving this shape on you, Natalie. You look so gorgeous in fit and flare; this sort of hides your figure.

Yeah, I am not used to waist surrender. I think I will pass on the Sanctuary tops. Too bad because I like the color and print. The Ella Moss is also waist surrender and dolman sleeves so it's not a typical silhouette for me, but at least it's fitted at the hip so it's a little less overwhelmingly voluminous.

The Ella Moss is the best fit, but I'm wondering about the color. The Sanctuary version is kind of overwhelming you with all the volume, unfortunately. I think you can (and do!) do better. I'm so used to "wow" with your clothes now, Natalie, so I guess I want these to be up to that standard.

I'm not really feeling any of these on you. #6 fits okay but I'm not loving the color. And all the others seem way too volunimous on tiny you. Sorry.

MaryK, I know, the grey is a bit drab for me but I like the print and it's comfy and it was cheap at the Rack so I think I'll keep and use as a layering tee under my black leather jacket or something...

I think you are smaller than me, gp. Or maybe I'm longer waisted? Hmm. I think the XS works better for you, whereas the S fit me perfectly. Then again, you spread your arms and posed a little differently than I did. Perhaps if I'd raised up the sleeves people would have voted nay for me, too!

Waist surrender is not as easy as you'd think! I'm not loving these on you - the sleeves seem overwhelming and the shape is off somehow. I think you need something either longer or a little more fitted with flare at the hem. Let me see if I can find some examples.

Yes AG, waist surrender is tough! I have a hard time doing it without feeling like I'm wearing maternity clothes. I need to take an apprenticeship from you and Sona!

I do, and it's got a nice flowy trapeze shape that I think would work well for you... if I see something in a similar shape, I'll let you know.

Ahhh, LOVE! I'd wear tops 1 & 2 in a heartbeat! They're just lovely and pure boho. I see this as a departure from your usual ladylike style, but honestly I think 1 & 2 look fun and playful! If YOU don't feel fab in them, though, they're a no-go. #3 is definitely too roomy and not so flattering, but I adore the first two.
