K/R: Plaid... way rad or too trad?

This Topshop plaid blazer went on sale at Nordstrom, and a plaid blazer was on my 12x12 list so I gave it a whirl. What's the verdict? I like the menswear style and the plaid, but is it too Christmas blazer or can it be punked up? It's not the best made item in the world as the pattern doesn't match up perfectly. But the price was right, and it fits in the arms. Sleeve length is perfect. The Cut 25 blazer (which I also tried) was crushing my shoulders!

Mo, not at all! It came in well under budget, which I'll roll over to the next month! (it was $60, down from $136.)

I like it on you, although my mind does think "Christmas" a little when I see red plaid. It doesn't STAY on "Christmas," but it does go there briefly. I think you should keep it.

With your yellow plaid pants perhaps? I like the jacket. Seems like a fun piece to play with especially if it doesn't break the bank Fit looks great!

Kelly, I know you understand the relief of slipping on a jacket and feeling NO constriction in the arms and shoulders! The Cut 25 blazer was adorable but it made me feel straitjacketed!

I love the cut and how it fits you. The colors, while I like them, don't seem like you to me, more specifically, the red. This is of course for you to determine! I wish the red were eggplant or some other color.

I have a thing about plaids not matching, so the mis-match on the lapels would drive me crazy. If you want an inexpensive plaid for casual wear, though, and the mis-match didn't bother you, it might be worth keeping.

I like it! I like that it almost has a cheeky punk lumberjack feel, which somehow is perfectly fabulous for poking a little fun at the freezing waste that is (really isn't) Alaska!

An aside story... Hubby, his brother and I all used to go the the same grungy alternative night club in downtown Johannesburg when we were younger. My husbands and his brother had a standard uniform for the club. Black skinny jeans, Doc's, white T-shirts and tartan over shirts, which normally got tied around their waists as the night wore on. And they both had long hair. One night, the DJ was giving away free bottles of something boozy to people on the dance floor and he called up the two girls in the white T's and tartan skirts. The two girls being hubby and brother

Like it! I don't see Christmas and I don't see mismatched lapels, but now that they've been pointed out I like that too. It doesn't look too feminine or like office-wear.

The mismatch on the lapels would be a challenge for me but then I am a neat freak:). It could in fact add to the RATE vibe you like:). Fit is good and I like the cut of the jacket. Is this an alternative to the green and black tartan that you were wanting?

ETA- I think this blazer does not read as punk but rather a 80/90's bank teller uniform, sorry.

Didn't say Christmas to me, until you pointed it out. I could see it being Christmassy if you wanted it to be, but I rather thought outdoorsy and boyish first. Like the pocket trim/closure --- keeps it sharp and contemporary rather than trad.

I like the blaze, Una. The plaid doesn't read Christmas to me and I love the use of the dark top to ground it. I could see you rockin this in a variety of ways.

I think it looks cute with the red glasses! I think I would prefer the black watch plaid on you though. But if it would be a good placeholder until you find what you really want then it works.

It fits nicely and didn't break the bank, but I'm not sold on the red plaid and not sure why. I live in the land of 10,000 plaid flannel shirts, so that could be it.

The non-matching plaid would bug me after the novelty wore off.

I just don't think it has the same punk factor as your yellow plaid pants, but hope you're forming your preference without my .02

I like the yellow Tripp Julie offered -- could make quite the suit. Wear your galaxy suit one day, the Tripp suit the next

I didn't notice the mismatched lapels (am unlikely to ever notice such a detail actually), but it doesn't bother me and may actually read more punky this way - a perfect match would look more tailored, no?
