K/R mom jeans ETA Mom jeans ripped

Need some help deciding on these items.

Mom jeans - that's actually what they are called. I took a gamble and was surprised they work as well as they do. They don't pinch my tummy, which is what I expected. The rise, on me, is REALLY high and while I'm used to seeing that on other folks these days, I'm not sure I'm ready to take the plunge and would like disinterested opinions. Sometimes I need a little push. (Note: I don't mind a JFE look.)

Even if I don't keep them I thought some folks might be interested in seeing them.

As for the top... it does NOT match the color I thought I was getting. At all. I have this top in a striped color and I do like it. What do we think of thus bubblegum pink? I thought I was getting fuschia, which is what the color is called. I have lots of other more saturated stuff, so maybe this is a nice change of pace?

ETA - I don’t think I will reach for a top in this shade of pink and will probably return it.

I also tried to take better angled pictures with two different tops - semi tucked tee and cropped tee.

ETA - I decided to wear the jeans but they ripped before I could cut the tags. They weren’t that tight and it’s clearly a faulty item. Boo. I will take these onions on into my future purchases; knowing J Crew occasionally has faulty items, I feel uninclined to replace these.

I like the color of the top a lot on you, though would probably prefer untucked or semi tucked for balance.

suntiger - I definitely wouldn’t do a full tuck usually. Just showing off the rise of the jeans. Glad you like the top!

They seem much higher than you on the model-almost mid rise on her. Are they comfortable when you sit though?

I like the jeans. Good fit at the leg and waist, and fun colour.
I am not a fan of the top colour...but I must say it looks good with the jeans!

Thanks, smittie. I have this version of the top so even if I return the pink, I can recreate this look if I keep the jeans.

I like the jeans on you, and if they are comfortable in all positions -- why not! I'd like to see them with a cropped boxy top. I like that pink and think it looks good on you, though I agree it is definitely not what was pictured! How do you feel in the pink? How does it coordinate with other items you own if it is not in your usual palette?

I can’t claim to be disinterested because I wore the original (bleach blue, high waisted, wide hip and bottom, tapered legs) mom jeans back when I was a young mom 30 years ago. Possibly when I was about the age you are now? They were not like the current reincarnation, which seems to be a higher rise version of ankle jeans, though in the bleach wash which we haven’t seen for a long time.

Frankly though - I love the color of the top though the scoop is much too low for me and kind of makes me uncomfortable seeing it on others. I love the shoes. I would totally pass on the jeans.

Though some folks don't fancy a high waist, I believe it is more flattering than a low or mid rise. I find a high rise smoothes over jiggly bits and eliminates the 'muffin top'. These jeans are flattering to your figure and more than JFE. (FWIW - your camera angle needs adjusting for a photo that shows better proportions. Experiment with holding your phone/camera lower and closer to your body when you take your pics. If standing farther from the mirror shows more background, you can crop your images.)

Becky - definitely not my usual palette. This makes me fra I won’t wear it. I can pair it with things but I may not reach for it.

cjh, I can understand the feelings in real mom jeans, which these are not. It’s the wash, as you say. I missed them the first time around - first I was a kid, then in the early-mid 90’s I was a teen into grunge. I wore oversized jeans. As for the scoop, I have that tee in another color, so I’m fine with it. Comfort levels vary, of course!

I think I qualify as a disinterested viewer I'll be honest in saying I don't love them here Did you try a size up? Or, how about in a darker wash (yes, I know the ultra light wash is trending ) ? I think a darker colour might be more flattering - and a little more "grown-up". Quite possibly I'm missing the whole point here ...

Thanks Carla. It’s true about the waist holding everything in. As for this mirror, it’s a hopeless cause. I can’t back up too far in that room without getting in my tub. I can try to change camera placement. Thanks!

Lisa, the wash is why I bought them. I have plenty of dark wash jeans but crave some variety in in my bottoms, for the weekend at least. It’s so even for a light wash! It’s roomy in a couple of places so I don’t think I’d size up. This is purely an experiment so I won’t try other things to make it work if I decide I don’t want them, if you know what I mean. I try to push my comfort zone occasionally, with mixed results. The process helps me evolve even when individual experiments fail, though!

I like the mom jeans ! If they are comfy, I vote keep .
I’m not so keen on the pink - it’s a bit Barbie for me

Thanks Lucy! This is ultimately my feeling on the top top. The jeans remain under consideration and I’m not surprised they are divisive. I don’t think everyone will love the look and I need to see how I adjust to it.

I must say I like both the gray and striped tops much better and the jeans look great with either. I didn’t mean to come across harshly before, and should have skipped comment as you specifically asked for disinterested response. My apologies.

I think you totally rock those jeans! I am short waisted too, and I am showing my figure in all its glory by wearing lots of high-waisted stuff.

I prefer the tops untucked or full tucked. I didn't care as much for the semitucked top, I think because it obscures your waist, and showing your waist is the point of the higher-waisted style. (Even the untucked top shows your waist clearly.)

I'm glad you decided to return the top. It's not nearly as interesting as the find. I would have felt let down.

I wore pink tops with my light blue acid wash mom jeans the first time around, probably because everyone seemed to style those jeans with a bright pink top, I like the jeans on you. Lucky you to be able to wear a tee with such a large scooped neck! You look great.

I like the jeans with the gray top. I think a higher neckline and looser fitting tee makes a difference with the jeans.

Gigi, the semi tuck only works in certain situations, doesn’t it? Also, the actual color of the top is a HUGE let down. I wanted fuschia!

Thanks, Joy! As I explained in a comment above, I missed the acid washed era (though I was alive) and came of age during grunge. I like the even wash on these jeans. I remember my mom in jeans that had much less even washes.

Stylefan, thank you. The cropped tee is more likely how I would wear them. I don’t have a lot of cropped tees, though... there are a lot out now, but they are very boxy looking and usually I don’t like some element - color, logo/graphic, etc.

kkards, they will pooch out too much around the crotch (at least on me) if I sized up. So I won’t bother if I keep them. But maybe you should try!

The jeans fit you very nicely and the color is lovely. The top is great, too and that deep pink shade can work as a neutral. I am wearing a similar top today and I get a lot of wear out of it because I think it makes my outfits a lot happier.

Huh, those J Crew jeans look a lot like a stretch version of the Madewell Perfect Summer jeans. I love the even light blue wash. The top I'm not too enamored with. It looks good with the jeans, but will that colour work with the rest of your wardrobe? (Be advised, I do have a bit of a stink eye for most shades of coral.)

Joyce B, thank you! Unfortunately, I have decided that color is kind of neither here or there for my particular taste and wardrobe.

La Ped, ultimately I agree about the color. I prefer paler OR darker/more saturated shades. Probably because I like contrast in my clothing. So the top is going back. I wanted the color in the Find, dammit!
