I stalked and bought this Madewell dress in my color for the year. What do you think? Is it too long ? Thanks for looking!

Beautiful color on you Debbie. I don't think it's too long for a summery dress. Sometimes the photo angle makes a fuller skirt look longer--at least that's what I've found with my photos. In fact, I think it looks rather elegant on you.

I love the color, but not sure if you need something more petite, shorter hem or streamlined? It's a lot of dress.

I have this dress and, I get the people who say (on this and other threads about it) that it's a lot of dress. However, I think it seems less overwhelming in person, on an actual body in motion. Camera angle may also have something to do with it. It would be hard to hem, though, if not impossible so you have to feel good about the length yourself, Debbie.

Looks too overwhelming to me Debbie, but the colour suits you so much that maybe being a bit overwhelmed is OK? I think longer dresses are fashionable ATM...

I really like it! It’s hard for me to tell from the camera angle exactly where it hits you at the leg/ankle, so there’s that. The red color is really terrific on you. I did prefer the petite length on another poster but I did like the longer (regular) length as well...
I have the lighter blue calico print and I think Christina has a really good point about the dress in person - it’s so light and swooshy that it isn’t as overwhelming as one might think.

I think the length is working - I can see your ankles, sparkly slides and your red pedicure. It fits in the shoulders and bust, and it could shrink a little bit in the washing machine ( potentially ). So I like it a bit on the longer side on you. Color is great!
Agree with @Christina F. on movement and swish .

I’m with Jenni too. Could you have this one shortened just a bit after pinning it up a few inches to see what you think? The tiers may make it too tricky. A whole tier seems like too much, but ...

Beautiful color! I think it fits really well. There is enough structure at the top and the length is right to maintain a polished yet casual look IMHO. I hope you keep it and wear it with confidence!

Ok, i see I’m In the minority here, i love this! For me, this is exactly how I’d want a boho(ish) dress to fit. And the color is fab!

I'm definitely biased, since I hunted down this dress myself. The structure around the shoulders makes it work, and I love the white sandals with it. I think this is a "surrender your waistline" dress where you know going in that it's not going to be conventionally flattering.

The boho vibe works beautifully with your new cascading locks.

But you have to love it too, sweet Debbie. If you don't - return the dress. I am always on the side of the wearer.

I don't find the dress overwhelming. I see the same things that Slim Cat and Christina see. Structure and flow in the important places.

I am finding for myself that long skirts make me feel hotter in the summer. I guess my legs run warm!

How do you feel about it Debbie? I think if you wore your hair up and took the picture from a different angle it would be a whole other dress.

I actually like it and was afraid the length was make me me look shorter. I love the color and the fabric. I am going to keep it for the boho aspect this summer. It’s a different look but I feel comfortable with it.

I had the same thought as Shevia - do you wear your hair up at all? I love the colour. And while it’s a lot of dress it also appears light and breezy. It looks comfortable to wear and like you are comfortable wearing it, if that makes sense.

I do think camera angles and movement make a big difference. I try to think about what the Forum observations and comments can help with and what are the limitations. For me the issue was, examine carefully for whether it does overwhelm, because boho is easy to get too far that way and the straight-on static photo always looks more that way. But you are more able to tell about that as you move about and see it from different angles and feel it.
I have the same issue sometimes with drapey pants , or even tops, and someone might say try a smaller size--I will give that some more thought about where and how the item fits ,especially as to whether it is the right fit at ANY size, or whether I can see it differently IRL and also movement, especially for flowy dresses and pants. And then, different people also like to wear their items more fitted or more fluid.

So, enjoy your dress!

The colour is great on you! Also like the shape. I can't wrap my head around the short sleeves on these wide midi dresses, though. Why would one want so much coverage and at the same time bare arms? To me it would be confusing to know what temperature and climate I would wear it in. If breezy, I would surely need a topper? But it does look good on you.
