Even the smallest size looks a little big for you, so I vote for those. These look super!

Shannon, trust your gut and get a pair of fitted, tailored white jeans, especially since your JS ones are likely on their way to boyfriend land! I love having a slouchy pair of jeans, but I would never give up my crisp, fitted white jeans. Never. I love 'em.

They look great in the smaller size. But if you on't feel great in them don't keep. You don't need an orphan.

FWIW, these don't stretch as much as other KFTK pairs. I have them in a size 10 and they haven't stretched a bit.

What k can shop said! I also vote for smaller if you decide to keep them.

Well. I am late to the party. I think these look great in the smaller size IF you want BF jeans in white! If not, go for a slim jean instead. I do think that chopping the excess length will chang the drape and line in the thigh area quite a lot. Only someone who has also been through the length alteration process truly understands this -- how the excess length, even when reined in with a cuff (as here) changes the shape of the overall silhouette. Anyway, I know this is true. But I also know you've had an ambivalent relationship with BFs. So I would say, go with your gut in the end.
Hey Shannon - wow - I just read all of the replies and they are all over the place aren't they? Good luck making up your mind! Probably when you wear them around the house awhile you'll have a better feel for if they are going to work for you or not. For what it's worth, I think these jeans can't make up their mind if they want to be your boyfriend or not. I mean, they look plenty baggy in the legs, but they seem to be giving you just a bit of a wedgie in the back side! I just don't think that they fit you quite right - so, I'd look for a pair that can either fully commit to being your boyfriend - or, who can be long and lean and clean! (no bunching, no wedgies, no confusion!)
I like them in the smaller size too.
Even the smaller size looks a little wrinkly in the rear. Would you taper the legs or keep them straight like that? I think I'm siding with K can shop...if you don't love them, look for a more fitted pair. I have Kut from the Kloth Diana skinny jeans that are slimmer and more fitted, if that's what your after. But I'm no boyfriend connoisseur! I think for the baggy boyfriend silhouette, these fit the bill!
I'm a fan of the smaller size, Shannon. Maybe it's just a matter of getting used to seeing yourself in white jeans again? (I know I always need to adjust my eye to this myself), because I don't see anything dumpy or frumpy on my screen!!
I think these look just as fab as your blue denim BF jeans, and you sure do rock that look!!
(I agree that you will also look amazing in a white straight leg or skinny jean, perhaps there's room in your closet for both? Oh yes: extra thought: I personally find BF jeans more breezy and comfortable to wear when it gets warm, maybe you do too?).
You know I follow your fashion trials and tribulations more than most.

I have observed that when you go against your instincts and rely on popular opinion, the item in question often languishes in your closet so I say go with your gut. If you do not feel fab in the white pants and have another cut/style in mind, then continue the search.

They have a nice pair of slim white pants at JNY on Kenaston that I think might work for you. They were a good weight so no worries about the underwear showing through. I bought them in navy for a work trip but was thinking about going back and trying the white.
Hi Shannon --

-- Dianthus has a compelling point; since you know stress can make you negative across the board, I'd retry them on when you're in a more positive mood and listen to your instincts then

-- I'm definitely on the side of those who say "the smaller of the sizes...or even a smaller size" for looser-fit jeans. While I see Marley's issue with the rear view, I also agree with Suz about the weight of extra hem throwing all kinds of weird things off. Are they comfortable as-is or do they have a wedgie-not-so-licious feel?

Right now the smaller size has about the amount of bagginess you seem to prefer, and it seems like it'd be a huge pain/$$$ to get another size down, so you may have to decide if these are worth a 1-season experiment during your weight loss (and/or additional tailoring down the road).

Maybe keep the tags on while you look for a narrower silhouette to see if you even *want* this look these days?
DECISION:

YOU ALL ROCK! I always so appreciate when you take the time to give me feedback. It's how I learn and grow.

I've done some more thinking about it and tried them both on again this morning before I left for work and have decided I'm returning both pairs. These are not my jeans. I don't feel good in them.

My Jessica Simpson sized up skinnies are slouchy enough and I would like to find a slimmer pair, a bit more dressy.

Dianthus - I especially appreciate you chiming in since we've met and you know me and my body a bit more than others. I just checked out the JNY website and there are actually a couple of white jeans and a pair of white trousers worth trying on - and they all come in petite. Why do I always forget about them?

Thanks everybody!

I am very happy to hear you have returned both. Go get yourself a fitted pair of white skinny jeans and flaunt that bod off.
Variety is the spice of life. You have enough of 'em baggy britches and I promise you, fitted shapes are still very much in. I tell you, I am yet to see the first slouchy skinny jean where I live. BF jeans are very few and far in between. Get on that wagon before it is too late

Shannon, I respect your final decision. You have to wear them - not us!

In the light of what K can shop said, there is room for all sorts of white jeans styles if you love white jeans. I have skinnies, 2 pairs of straight, clams and BF jeans. I would also never give up my sleek straights! But I like variety in the colour of a bottom that is a workhorse - same with black bottoms and faded blue denim.
Shannon, just out of curiousity, how did you find they fit in comparison to the Gap BF's? Size wise as well as fit wise. I'd like to try these to, and I'm still torn which size to go with... Based on Angie's comment I think I may go up, but still waffling.

You might want to try out BR's straight roll up's. Those are the ones I'm wearing in my last WIW post, if you want to see them. They are slim w/o being "skinny" and are thick enough not to worry about undies or pockets. Might be worth a try. A free try.

I have those BR ones too and recommend them (haven't worn them for a WIW yet).

Zap - ha ha, I knew you'd be happy! I won't be getting white skinny jeans though. I'll be looking at either slim or straight. I'm pretty sure "white" and "skinny" wouldn't be flattering on my body.

Angie - I appreciate the understanding I do agree that white jeans are fab in several silhouettes and I am looking to expand my white jean capsule. Just not with these ones. I just didn't feel they were flattering.

Elizabeth - the smaller size of the Kut's are the same size as my smaller pair of the Gap BF's. I would say they have a similar fit, with the rise being a bit higher than the Gap's. I have tried the BR jeans but the rise is too low for me. I prefer a mid rise.
Sort of a tangent, but I'm a bit surprised to see that slouchy skinnies and BFs are rare in NY. If not there, then where? Part of DH's complaint about my SBFs was that he never sees anyone else wearing them (i.e. they aren't traditionally flattering and they aren't popular). Yikes, maybe he has half a point.

But getting back on track (!) I can totally see you in some white straight legs. Keep on searching - jeans are very hard in the first place, and white ones can be even harder IMO.

Rae, I don't know, I swear, I have not seen them. Maybe I am not looking? On casual wear in terms of bottoms, what I do see is a sea of skinny jeans, cropped pants now that the weather got warmer and very little bootcuts. I have seen the high waisted, pleated trousers with tapered legs, but no, no slouchy or oversized skinnies. The BF jeans do get worn, mostly downtown, but I have not seen them unrolled. Again, they are few and far in between. There is lots of destroyed denim that is worn oversized, but that's a complete different vibe and more of a subculture, than a trend.
What about LA, I mean if not there where? LOL
I think we are just early adopters.
Shannon, I will be happy with either choice too lol.

Have you tried Ann Taylor? I just purchased a regular sized, cropped pair of white jeans and they hit nicely at my lower ankle. (I'm 5'2".) They are not see-through.

Something like this?

Shannon, I'm so late here as to be irrelevant, but I do love the smaller pair. You have to feel good in them though. I do not wear white bottoms even as an IT because they just make me feel bulky somehow. I don't see that on you at all, but I understand the feeling of too much white!
Una - I like white jeans and wear my JS sized up skinnies, but something about the white coupled with the BF silhouette just seemed "too much", you know?

Kristin - unfortunately we don't have Ann Taylor here but thank you for the suggestion.
While I realize this might be an overly expensive experiment, owing to shipping/customs etc., but have you considered the white Kut from the Kloth skinnies?

I don't have mine yet - but I have both the Kut Catherine BF style in white, as well as the white skinnies on their way to me from Nordstrom.

These are the 'skinnies' I'm referring to:

note: on me, they don't seem super-skinny - more like a slim,straight-leg jean, if you ask me. Like I said, I don't have white yet, but I do have two or three of these in various blue washes and love them.
