K/R karen millen jacket

I need your opinion on this jacket that arrived today. Is it a keep or return? I am just not sure. I threw it over today's outfit, maybe it doesn't work with it. I also got this poncho but this is not k/r, I have already cut the tags. I am planning to keep it in the office to wear it as blanket because I am always cold when sitting at the desk.
Please help me decide.

I like the jacket on you, but I don't love it, and can't tell why, because the fit is good, and I do think the color is flattering on you. On the other hand, I love the poncho, I am glad you are keeping it.

They are such different looks, Anchie, and I think the jacket is suffering a bit from the comparison. The poncho is just a slam dunk - I'm not surprised the tags are off. It's lovely on you, and you look chic and comfortable in it.

The jacket is quite pretty and I like how it cinches in. Is that ribbing, or stitching in the upper arms? And a zipper at the cuff? It looks like it has such nice details and fits well. I also think this is a very sharp look on you, just not quite as effortless as the poncho.

Viva - jacket is really nice in theory, great quality and nice details as you noticed. Yes, there is stitching on upper arms, zippers on cuffs and pockets. Material is alos very nice, it is brushed cotton that has velvety feel.

Aquamarine - thanks! Yes, this jacket is strictly outerwear.

Isabel - thank you. I also have some concerns about color, it seems that it is not best for maintenance, it will show wear easily and will require frequent cleaning. There is the same jacket in the navy, maybe that will be better option?

Angie - thanks, that was unexpected! I have almost decided to return it and now you have thrown me for a loop I have to think now some more about it.

Thank you, Jenni NZ. I am almost done with the shopping. Got 3 blazers, 3 pairs of pants, jeans, and a few tops, all at great prices. I am still missing a suit which I will need for a function in early November and that should be it for a while.

I like them both also. The jacket looks like a perfect fit and really nice details. I do wonder about the color a little but that could be because of the colors you have with it. I think you will have a better idea about that after a try-on session. Love the poncho, I can see why it was a slam dunk.

Angie, i know, i know it is easy when I am sure if I like or don’t like something, but if I am undecided like in this case I am easily swayed to one or other direction. And all initial feedback was not in favor so I started thinking that I should return. But because of your and other positive feedback later I decided to rethink it and give it another chance. Will try it with other outfits and then decide and will post more pictures later.

anchie, stare at the jacket in your wardrobe for a few days - create a few more outfits - and process how you feel about it. That usually helps me make the right decision.

Love them both on you. I am sorry it is a difficult decision. As Angie recommends, an aoutfit making session usually helps.

It really interests me from YLF how much you all return things. I barely shop online, and in NZ it is not much done ( I think) to return to bricks and mortar stores. Or if you do ( because you are allowed if it is a full-price item, not if it is a sale item) than I think it would be expected you do it quite quickly. So I try to really take my time in the store, use the power pause, take my lists of clothing with me and check them. Often I will leave it there and go back a few days later if it plays on my mind. If it has then gone, I take a philosophical approach that it wasn't meant for me. All of these strategies have helped me slow my purchasing rate since I started my first shopping fast last November 2016.
I think it sounds a really good idea to leave it hanging in the closet a bit and see how you feel about it, and try it with things. That is easier than doing it all in your head like I try to!
I am happy for you that you have found quite a few items at good prices. I don't understand why your weight has gone up and down so much over the years. Mine only seems to go one way ( up) without having changed much, even when I try to watch portion sizes and such. I still haven't accepted it that well after being slim right up to age 35 after 3rd baby, with little effort. But he is 21 so that is a while ago!

Angie and Tanya, this is very good advice. But it seems that I will have to re prioritize, I have found some other wardrobe holes that seem more pressing.

Jenni NZ - I never return things that I buy in brick and mortar stores. I don’t think it is done often here also, it is not possible to return sale items, and you can only get store credit. I did it once and it was terrible experience. I bought a navy sweater in a store and when I brought it home I realized that it is a wrong shade of navy and that it doesn’t go with other things that I planned to wear it with. I brought it back to store the next day with the receipt and tags still on. And at first they did not want to accept the return. When I insisted, the sale assistant gave it a sniff test and inspected it meticulously. I was mortified. She finally agreed but with the rude attitude and gave me only the store credit. I never set the foot in the store again and was happy when it closed few years later. I prefer online shopping and really go to brick and mortar stores. Selection and prices are better and you can try it in the comfort of your home and return it without humiliation.
Regarding my weight, well, it did not go up and down, only up until recently. It started going up about 10 years ago when I got pregnant at 38 with 2nd baby. I never bounced back after the pregnancy. And then about 5 years ago I developed health issues, some weird syndromes and alergies and was treated with steroids. My weight went up again. I did try dieting but nothing was working, after starving my self I would be able to lose few kg which I would immediately gain back as soon as I stopped starving. I still don’t understand how I managed to lose the weight so easily this time, with just small modification of my diet.

Oh well so long as your health is still good, that's all right! But it is causing you a lot of wardrobe issues.
That shop assistant was so rude to you! I would never have gone back either. And I would have been a little bit happy if the store closed later ( even although I might be sorry for some people losing their jobs, but maybe thinking the rude one doesn't deserve to keep her job). I have also occasionally had SAs be rude to me, or else what I call "snooty" ( kind of snobbish). There was one snooty one in my local mall which has really put me off that store. Sometimes I look from outside to see if she is on and don't go in if she is. I popped in very briefly this past week when she was and just browsed quickly. I would actively avoid her if thinking of buying, I bet the owners would not be pleased if they knew because I can spend a lot in that mall. The shoe shop owner man loves me! He always chats even if I'm not buying. He knows he has sold to me several times.

That was one scene I liked from the movie "Pretty Woman", when the rude SA in Rodeo Drive gets her come-uppance from Julia Roberts' character. I was internally cheering! And I think that movie came out in the early 90s

I remember that movie and scene.
I do have additional problem that I am foreigner here, and you can tell both from my English and my German that these are not my mother thongs. And sometimes I get the “snooty” attitude because of that. But I am happy that my kids are trilingual and thet they speak all 3 languages with the native accent.

I'm glad you're keeping the poncho because it looks great on you! The jacket, well I can't think of any reason not to like it, but I don't like it. It looks too big to me, but I think it may just be that the cut doesn't love your particular body.

What Rachylou said. This is a jacket that can be worn all year but is especially useful to lighten an outfit in the spring.
