K/R: Inge's slouchy trousers (5 photos)

Inge highly recommended these Raoul slouchy ink blue trousers. They are very well made, dressy and comfortable - but the legs are LONG! I would have to hem about 4 inches and would that mean having them tapered a bit more in the leg too?

I'm not sure I've come up with a good way to style them here, especially since I'm not wearing the shoes I'd wear (booties!). They are a great material and definitely a quality item. But they need to be a 10 or at least be able to become a 10 with alteration.

I'm not sure! They fit comfortably in the waist, and I don't mind the bagginess, but you could be right. I wish the shopbop photo was still up. I'll have to find Inge's photos.

Question: where does the crotch fall on you? If that is super baggy they are probably just too big, full stop. Do they come in petites?

I LOVE these pants (looks like a modified Harem pant to me!) They seem like comfort HEAVEN.

Suz, thanks! The crotch doesn't seem too low, but since I have no hips that's where the bagginess may be excessive? In comparing with Inge's photos, she seems to have styled them better with tops that sort of hold everything together at the waist. Or they may just be more suited to her figure. Also, mine may be falling oddly because they are so bunched up with extra length at the bottom right now. I tried rolling them instead, but that looks even more ridiculous. They are lined and will need to be properly hemmed.

No petites - it seems like only classic clothing comes in petite sizes!

I think they might work with a more fitted top.

I think these have potential Una - they are beautiful pants. It's really hard to tell if the bagginess issue is due to the excessive length bulking up on you or if it's the pants themselves. I'm sure Angie will be helpful in this regard.

Hmmm...these are definitely more harem-y than slouchy, IMHO. They seem very wide through the hips and thighs (different than the fit on Inga, or so it seems). It's almost like they didn't adjust the measurements of the pants through the legs as they decreased in size...If you are wanting harem, these might fit the bill, but slouchy, I don't know. And aren't they a bit pricey? Harem-y can be had a lots of different prices, I think.

Sorry to rain on your slouchy slacks parade. Just my two cents, of course! Let's see what Angie says.

I think the length is what's messing it up a bit. They are so long that they do not look tapered on you. If you just hem them, you will lose the part of the leg that tapers! And I think the taper is what will prevent them from overwhelming you. When you tailor, can you ask them to taper the legs as well? Or is that too much trouble?

I'm watching this thread with interest. I really don't have a clue about proper fitting for this type of pant. Wow, I'm so rustyyyy...

Okay, seeing these pictures on my big computer is making me realize these are just too overwhelming. I love the idea of them but I really need them scaled down to my size. They are sold out so I can't size down, and if I get them tailored they will be a completely different pair of pants. Jonesy, I think you're right that they are more like harem pants on me. I need skinny slouchy if that' s even possible!

Oh, well - it's strike one on the slouchy pants. Lucky Inge that these work for her!

I like this look with the jacket! The minty greens.

It's hard for me to tell if they are too baggy. I'm not sure how they look in other poses - like feet together.

I first ordered a larger size for myself, Una, and they looked very similar to your pictures here, i.e. quite harem-esque from the side (I loved that!!), and somewhat too baggy from the front. Sizing down to my regular size fixed that for me, but I didn't have the length issue to deal with. I agree that the drape is affected by the length in your case, and having them tailored will probably not be the easiest alteration (or even make them into a pair of trousers you do not want).

Inge, I didn't size up on these, per your advice. I maybe could have sized down to one less than my usual size, but they don't have it in stock. Oh, well. They are such lovely trousers on you!

Goodness, how tall are you? I thought you were in the mid-height range!

Exactly, Una! I have a hunch many people could opt for two different sizes (up or down from their usual size) as far as fit around waist is concerned, but it does influence the amount of fabric and the way the trousers drape.
On to your perfect slouchy skinny pants!

Sometimes it's hard to judge someone's height just from pictures, isn't it. I always think you are taller when I look at your outfit posts.
I'll definitely keep an eye out for other trouser options!

Una I agree with others (and you it looks like) about these being overwhelming for you. I think, because your legs and hips are so slim as well as being 5'1", you will really need a fairly slim pair.
