Several of the bloggers I follow have been going nuts over Everlane for its high quality-to-price ratio. It seemed a bit overhyped to me -- you need a membership to even browse their site! -- but I was on the lookout for a tailored, cream or nude, minimalist, feminine silk blouse and thought I'd give them a bash.
I ordered their "white" and their "blush" in S and M. The silk itself has all the drape (weight + flowiness) of an Equipment blouse, but the texture is slightly less brushed/fuzzy; it's still brushed silk, but it's smoother to the touch and has an ever-so-slight sheen that my Equipment signature blouse doesn't. The "white" colorway even has mother-of-pearl buttons to play off of this slight sheen; gorgeous!
Their sizing is somewhere between an Equipment Brett (their standard size) and an Equipment Signature (which is their oversized style). For reference, here's me in a Signature (S) and me in some Bretts (S and M).
As for the blouses themselves: the "white" is actually a lovely eggshell / soft white with the faintest hint of cream. Unfortunately, it was too sheer for my tastes (though I have an admittedly low tolerance for sheerness). Although I would never wear it out of my apartment in this way, I used the same white lace cami that I did for my other white silk blouse to assess its sheerness; the Everlane showed even more of the lace detail than my current one does and I decided to pass on this colour altogether.
The "blush" itself is almost a taupe: there is very little yellow at all in it. I find the color neither flattering nor unflattering, but my husband dislikes it on me. I find the contrast placket utterly beautiful when buttoned up all the way, but very very distracting when worn open; I worry that the lack of flexibility will cause me to eventually dislike it. I love the minimal, feminine vibe of the blouse (oh, how I wish they would offer the blush without a contrast placket!) but don't want to settle if it's not "the one".
So, with the mini-review said and done: should I keep either the small or medium blush blouse? As a reminder, I'm looking for classic fitting (not oversized), minimal, and feminine. Keep me honest, ladies!
#1 - Lace cami seen through the "white" blouse. Not for me.
#2 & #3 - Small "blush"
#4 & #5 - Medium "blush", worn in various stages of unbuttoning to show the distracting placket.
