So, this happened in my travels today. When I bought the grey velvet jacket I'm considering wearing for my nephew's wedding next week, I also bought it in solid dark brown, which has always been one of my favourite colours. The grey worked much better than the brown over my black pant set, and the brown, though gorgeous, went back.

Today I found another colourway and I might need it. I brought it home in case I do.

This lighter brown version, just happens to go beautifully with my new bronze Ecco sneakers. The embroidery is a mix of blue-grey and off white. Because of the blueness of the grey threads, I think it will be wonderful with jeans. Because there is a lot of pink in the brown, I thinkI will be able to also wear this with certain shades of blush -- a new direction for me thanks to encouragement from the fine folks here at YLF. I tried it on in the store with a graphic tee in an almost pink with burgundy, pink and dull navy in the graphic and I quite liked the mix,

I don't this jacket can go over my black wedding outfit. If I keep it, it would be a duplicate for "casual dressy" and times when I want to channel my inner hippie a bit.

Am I crazy to consider keeping both the grey and the brown? Are they too similar? I barely need one, let alone two. Where do I go that's even casually dressy? And when, exactly, do I need to channel an inner hippie?

OCT 4 ETA: Gotta love WFH -- I did a quick try on of the brown jacket over the black during my lunch. This time my column of black includes the lace blouse.as I would still need a topper for the lace (I'll need the warmth for arriving and leaving, plus if it's cool during the ceremony or before dinner. I suspect it will come off once the dancing starts!)

I still have lots of good advice to think about, so no decision yet, but this adds a bit more information to the process. Thanks for looking! Comments welcome!
