K/R - spring shopping - ETA more pictures of 2 pieces dress

Everything I ordered for my spring refresh has finally arrived. Some items were clear loosers and are already packed and ready to be returned. I would like to hear your opinions on following 4 items

1) I am a sweater girl and don’t have many other types of tops. This shirt have all the colors from my color scheme and will probably go with many things in my wardrobe. But somehow it doesn’t feel like me. What do you think?

2) Boden Maisie dress that Angie also has. My DD will have a graduation in June, and I wanted to sort my outfit earlier so that we can concentrate on hers. What do you think, have I found it or should I keep looking?

3) Matching top to my pleated skirt. Very inexpensive since it is from last year and on deep discount. 100% polyester wich is not what I usually like to wear. And I like it better with the pants. It seems like to much volume with the skirt. I tried it with some random belt and thinking maybe ordering obi type belt in picture to try to rein in all this fabric. I saw a woman at work today wearing pleated skirt with similar belt and it looked fab.

4) Boden Addlestone blazer. I tried it with Boden sweater and jeans in the same color just for fun, will not wear all together. Buttoned and unbuttoned.

Well my attitude is always-if there is something that bugs you about it, that will just increase later! That said:
1. Though it seems like it should work well, you definitely seem to have doubts. I'm wondering if the collar is the issue since you tend to wear tops without?
2. I like a lot, but sounds like you just want to have the decision made. Guessing DD approved it but you'd ideally choose something else?
3. Looks nice with the pants, but you ssid you don't like to wear poly. Was it just cost that inspired you to buy?
4. Looks nice and I know you were needing blazers, but do you love it? If it's in the K/R category, I assume there's doubts.
ETA- think I need to make a K/R flow chart:
1. Do you love it and it feels like you? -> Keep!
2. Do your loved ones love it? Either way see #1
3. Do Angie + YLFers love it? See #1
4. Do you have doubts -> Return!

I would not keep 1 and 4 if you are not feeling them. I like them on you, though!

2 looks great, but don't settle for it if you don't love it. It's very nice on you. Doe sit actually work for the occasion? Will it be too warm for graduation? Does the ceremony take place indoors our outdoors?

3 feels like something you don't want to keep, especially if it's poly.

If you don't feel like #1 is YOU, and you aren't feeling a style shift coming, I would return.

I love the dress on you, but would you wear it other than to graduation?

If you don't like polyester, don't let the sales price talk you into keeping it.

suntiger - live your flowchart! Regarding #1 I think I am most uncertain about pattern. #2 DD approved which came as a surprise, but it is a first dress that I am trying for the occasion. I would ideally be able to use it more casually after that. #3 I ordered not because of low price but because it is matching my skirt, thinking it may create a dress, but it doesn’t work like that. But I do like it with the pants, and my DH likes it too, which was another surprise. #4 is a new style of blazer for me, that is why I am not so sure, but I do like it.

Christina F. - graduation is early evening inside. It is very formal for the kids - boys need suits, shirt, ties and dress shoes; coctail dresses and closed shoes for girls. And they are only 11. It will be a nightmare to find outfit for DD.

nemosmom - that is exactly my concern about the dress, I don’t want to get dress to wear it only for one occasion. Does it look work appropriate?

Love the Boden blazer on you! Great colour, great fit.
Re #1, have you tried to style it untucked? Or maybe with a different belt? If so, and you still don’t feel great in it, then send it back.
I really like the poly blouse on you. #4 looks super. And I love your idea of trying the obi belt.
The blue dress looks like it’s a tiny bit big at the shoulder, but it might just be the way you’re standing to get the photo. It’s very flattering but how do you feel in it?
You have such good style Anchie so don’t settle for anything unless you really love it.

I think the dress is definitely work appropriate. You have a fab collection of blazers that might work if you think the back is too low (IMO it's fine as-is). And you could dress it down with a white sneaker or flat and a denim jacket too! Great dress.

missvee - thank you:) I didn’t try styling #1 at all - bottom is what I had on today. Maybe lack of enthusiasm to try it with something else is telling something. Dress feels really good on, wonder how it would look backwards.

I really like the shirt and jacket on you, but if you aren't going to wear it, don't keep it.

I don't particularly like the dress. It's nice, but there is something about the neckline and 3/4 sleeve I don't like in the photo, but maybe I'd like it on you in person. I admit a bias--this is exactly the style of dress, except for the him, that we girls all wore in the late 50s. Maybe it's just the association.

I like the top and skirt. Generally I don't like to wear polyester, but there are some tops that are okay--shorter sleeves like this won't be so warm.

I adore #1 on you! I love the argyle-esque stripe because it's nerdy and cool at the same time. A little preppy/athletic but arty, too.

Maybe it is due to the pants you are wearing with it, but the shirt in #1 projects more masculine than I associate with you. If the same pattern and colors were in a sweater, I doubt I would say the same thing.

I like the dress, and think it is work appropriate if you cover the back, but you are the one who would be wearing it. Is there a clock ticking on a return?

Would you wear that obi belt with other items? And would it make that outfit too hot? Otherwise, for your style I think it would be a great improvement over the slightly masculine belt you show. The looseness of the top IMHO balances the negative associated with polyester, and I think the color and pattern look great on you.

The blazer looks great, but you have to feel psychologically comfortable wearing it, not to mention that the weight/warmth have to be something you can use.

MsMaven - yes, you are right, dress definitely jad a retro feel, and I am not used to that shape, maybe that’s why I am uncertain about it. Also scale of the pattern, I think I prefer larger size patterns like in poly top.
Greenjeans and DonnF - nerdy and masculine, yes, thank you. Completely agree, I could not put a finger on it before, but that’s it. These are not adjectives that I want for my style so #1 is out.
Boden has 28 days return policy but norm here is 14 days, so I am used to deciding quickly.

Some things to think about:

#1 Blouse - are the sleeves too long? It may not feel like you, but give it some time, first. Wear if a few times at home. Assess how you feel. If it feels odd after that experiment - return. Fab with new light blue bag.

#2 Dress - I'm biased because I have the dress and love it. I love it on you too! That said, I will wear mine as a CASUAL every day frock. Not an occasion item. I might wear it to a casual client meeting - especially when the client is a friend.

#3 Top - no-brainer and STUNNING. Fun with the new obi belt.

#4 Blazer - KILLER

Well I think you look amazing in all of them Anchie! I love the dress for the graduation and for work and for more casual if you want. Of course I probably am not PPP enough and end up with too much.

Angie - just when I thought I figured what to do about #1 you are making me to reconsider:) #1 goes well with the new bag, maybe I should give it more chance. #3 and #4 I think are keepers, #2 is still questionable. I like it as dress, but you are right, it is on the casual side, and I am not sure I like it for the occasion. My DD will need to wear a cocktail dress, which I can’t even imagine. I may need to get more advice on that later.

suntiger - I agree with you, but this scool is very elite, kids from royal families, ambassadors, oligarchs and celebrities go there.

What’s the opposite of synergy? That top and skirt together! Seriously, they’re great pieces individually, but together they just fight for the spotlight.

I agree 1 doesn’t look like you. Why make yourself be/wear something you’re not? Return.

The dress I’m not sure about. It looks great on you, no question there. I hear you on wanting to be able to focus on her outfit. But make sure you aren’t settling so much that you’ll regret it as the event approaches.

I adore the blazer on you. Love that column of red. My absolute fav is the poly top with the yellow pants. I agree the top is too much with the matching skirt, but it really comes into its own with pants. So just wear it with solid bottoms that pick up colors in the top as you did here.

The dress is nice. Since you have time, you might want to keep looking.

The sweater in #1 is cute and looks nice on you, but if you're not feeling it, listen to that voice. Instead of tucking in the sweater, you might want to try wearing it out to see if you like it better. If not, then listen to your intuition and return.

All the others look good but I think you need to love them, especially patterns.

Skirt set and red blazer are my favorites but I am all about sets lately. I like the blue dress but if you aren't feeling it you can do better. I do like the first top also but again, you have to feel it to wear a pattern like that.
