K/R - NAS Halogen leather skirt

I'm on the fence about this skirt from NAS. My first reaction was that it didn't fit well, was a little big, it made my hips look big and I couldn't imagine what I would wear it with. Then I tried it on for my sister and she loved it and said "That's so YOU!"

So I tried it on with a couple of different things to see how I could wear it. I think it still looks big from the front view.

Will a leather skirt stretch? Should I try a smaller size? What's the "right" fit for a leather skirt? Could I have it altered to taper more from the front view? Do my pairings make any sense?

It does look big to my eye for this style - try a size down for sure.

I like the color, texture, and the split down the middle, but I see what you are saying, it looks a little big and not tapered enough at the bottom. I have some mini and pencil skirts of various lengths that don't have taper near the knees and it's difficult to work around their boxy shape I've found.

I would keep this one and try a size down to compare. Leather does stretch a bit, but not a ton.

You definitely have a lot of ways to style it. However, if it doesn't make your heart sing, are you okay with holding out for a piece that does?

I agree that it looks too big. I think maybe if you get the size smaller, you can have the waistband sit more at your natural waist, which might create a more streamlined effect and not emphasize the hip area as much.

I get worried about having leather alterations done, because I think that if the tailor messes up a seam, he can't just pull the stitches out without leaving visible holes. (Not sure of this; it's just my guess.) So I try never to have leather altered if I can help it.

I wonder if asymmetric hems just don't work for some body types. I tried an asymmetric-hem skirt like this last year and found that it made my hips look big too. (I have wide hips for my frame.) I couldn't size down, though, because the skirt wasn't made in the next size down. But I had a sneaking suspicion that there was maybe more going on than just the size. I haven't had a chance to test my theory with more asymmetric hems, though.

I do like your pairings, especially the gray sweatshirt.

Gorgeous skirt and I think it will work well for you, however it definitely appears to big particularly around the hips. Try a size down:)

It's a cool skirt, and I really like all your pairings -- but the skirt does seem too big in the hips.

What I see in your front and side views are what I see on myself when the skirt is cut for bodies with more rounded hips -- the fabric either stands out or collapses in.

I agree you can see about getting the sides tapered in and/or sizing down, but this may skirt may just be a "right idea, wrong cut" situation.

Gigi - I never thought about the asymmetrical hem issue.

I think it looks too big. I find hips get too big for me because I have no waist and size up, but I also have no hips! Size down and see if it helps....

Leather does begin to ease up when wearing and I go with the group here in suggesting a size down. It's a great-looking skirt and I love your tops.
