K/R - Fit and Flare skirt - YouLookFab Forum

So, as I was returning a load of items to Ann Taylor yesterday (some of their cute fit and flare dresses have a sheath shaped lining rather than a fit and flare lining), I popped into Talbots and this came home with me. It looked different in their mirrors than on my camera, and I am thinking that the skirt is too long for me, and perhaps such a bold print is not ideal on my bottom half. That, and when it came to play in my closet, it really stood out as having no capsule to join.

The skirt comes in less bold colors, but if the length doesn't work, I will keep looking.

I love the skirt but I'm thinking the proportions are off with the top. Have you tried tucking? I have a similar skirt from Talbots and I like to tuck my tops with it.

I think the lace dress could be fab -- let's see it on you!

I actually love the print skirt...no short cardigan in your closet or possibly a light colored cropped blazer in your closet? Or denim jacket? Is the skirt worth a little tailoring to you, because it is pretty cheap to shorten items. It looks so darn fun!

I love the way you styled it..the top does need to shorten a bit, maybe by just a couple of inches.

I admired this skirt in the catalog. I think the color in the print keeps the floral from being too "sweet," and adds an energetic vibe. It looks playful, but grown up.

I think you might actually have some jackets that might make shine ---- denim, for sure, and maybe white. It is navy of black in the print? I could see a dark jacket over this as well.

I think you could also kind of "scrunch" the bottom of your top if you don't like tucking. The blue is amazing on you! Oh -- and the skirt is not too short.

What's up with a fitted lining in a flared dress? Must've been a man who designed it. Wouldn't you want to feel easy and free in a dress like that?

Thistle, I love the skirt! Too bright a color on your bottom half? No way. It looks gorgeous and cheerful. And besides, I absolutely, 100% break out in hives hate the idea that a curvy gal has to wear dark colors on the bottom. That is ridiculous! By the way, how long have you had those super cute slightly pointy toed flats? Adorable!

Love the proportions! A very elegant length. My thumbs are up! (Prefer the pattern to the solids).

This is out of your comfort zone - no capsule and it's a pattern. But you could build onto this capsule too.

I don't have anything cropped. The sales lady brought be at least a dozen tops to try with it, and then she hit on belting it with a tee. In the catalogue, they pair it with the same tee but in white instead of blue. The blue is bolder, but I liked that with the vibrant print.

DH really likes it, which surprised me. Our 10 year anniversary is tomorrow (we are taking Monday off to celebrate and dropping DD off at daycare so we really have the day to ourselves), so you would think I would know him by now.

Your DH has a good eye. I LOVE this skirt, and I love the combo you put together. I do not think the proportions need to change, but the angle your pics are at make the hems look wonky - they are slightly angled down, making it impossible to tell where things actually fall. Regardless, this is a GREAT skirt and combo on you!

I like it on you. And like it much better than the catalog photo! The beautiful blue tee is a great medium contrast. I think the black lace dress, being cotton, wouldn't be liable to look frumpy. I'd wear it with sandals in a breezy resort town on the go look.

i like the eyelet dress as well. It's the type of thing you could dress up or down depending on footwear and accessories. Definitely worth a try.

I love this color combination on you! I am sorry this outfit had no friends to play with. I would encourage you to do bold prints on your bottom half because bold prints are camouflage. Plus it adds interest and a lovely burst of color. I hope you reconsider this is super flattering on you!

I think it's adorable!! I am sure you have some neutrals that you can wear with it, and pair it back a little if need be, otherwise, I think this is a great opportunity to create a new capsule with colour!! I am seeing variations of red, turquoise and denim - your new jeans (when you find them) will also look great with the tops that you wear with this skirt. How about a white tee, with a turquoise blazer? Switch the skirt for your jeans and it will look amazing - pop in that red belt and some red ballet flats (Dorothy style) and you're there!

I like it! I don't mind the long top at all because of the matching belt at your waist. I think that keeps the leg line long.
