K/R - Edgy or Grandma's Sweater (last KR, promise)

Not sure where my indecision has come from today. Maybe too much time around DH

This sweater is warm (yeah!) and has fun faux leather edging and zippered pockets. However, it does not close up at all. No zipper or buttons. DH really liked it until we noticed that, and he said to send it back. I do usually wear my sweaters buttoned or zippered as it, well, amazing cold. Perhaps it should be a deal breaker.

I don't mind the lack of closure but the collar bugs me for some reason. That could just be me though...

I like this one too..would it be for work or weekends? It's different than what you usually wear--seems more casual--but I've come to like open cardigans this year.

Well, if it was me, I'd use a smooth modernist brooch or shawl pin as a closure. But I know what you mean, it seems like you shouldn't have to...you could try something like that before deciding to R.

(I also know that if it was me, I'd have a hard time sending back a nice gray basic with modern lines and mixed media black trim. Heheh.)

I am a collar fanatic so this sweater gets a big thumbs up from me. Looks like it covers you pretty well so how about snuggling into this one and just apply the "must close" rule to future sweaters.

I don't know...I think it looks good, although the collar shape would be a little out of my comfort zone. Are you cold with it not buttoned up, or would it just take some getting used to? Personally, I would say that if you really like the sweater, I would keep it anyway. Does it make you happy?

It doesn't photograph all that well but it might just be one of those comfy basic pieces with just enough detail to make it interesting. Hmm, tough call. Wear it around the house a little more before you decide.

I really like this one on you. Love the collar. I'm good with no closure...keeps the elongating column in place all day.

Not edgy, but not frumpy either. Looks cozy but not outstanding.

I like it. Can you turn the collar up? It looks fine turned down, but turned up it might be quite chic and a little different. Why not try it with the collar turned up and a bright print scarf wrapped around your neck? The fact that it doesn't button doesn't bother me at all.

I think you have to go with your preference. If you're going to be constantly looking for a zipper or a way to close up your sweater by all means send it back. (although it's a really cool sweater!)

I think the real question is - do you like it?
Believe me, I can get the warm and cozy thing very well freezing in this Canadian winter. Lack of zipper does not bother me ( unless it makes it not warm enough for you) and I like that it has leather details. However like Una I am bothered by the collar...but I generally don't like cardigans so I may be biased.

Thistle I am not sure about this one. It's nice but... Im thinking there may be something better out there for you. I am not keen on the collar and I think I might prefer something that I could zip...I like style and practicality.

It does look a lot like what my grandfather used to wear. And the non closing thing would annoy me, personally.

If you have to wear it closed, you could easily buy several buttons you like, sew them on and then buy a length of same color faux leather trim and make little shapes like those crossed loop colored ribbons people wear. Take a few stitches where the strip crosses in order to secure it, then sew them to the other edge. Voila. Sweater that can close. Pin loop locations first and try on, in order to see if they're just where you want them.

It doesn't look particularly edgy or grandma-like to me, from here. I'm sure the leather trim is more apparent in closer proximity. It does look cute, comfortable and casual. I think the body-skimming fit and open line are nice. For a different look, could you maybe wrap it around a bit and belt overtop? I like it!

I think this hits you at a flattering sweet spot. The lack of zipper on this is not a deal breaker for me. I vote keep on this one.

i like this sweater, but if you are used to wearing all your sweaters closed, this maybe outside of your comfort zone, and could quickly become an orphan

Humm....I'm not sure on this one. Not edgy but maybe not frumpy either. I do like the tweedy fabric and the leather trim. The lack of closure would bother me - I would wear it around the house a while before deciding to return or not.

I like it and can see you really enjoying it in your climate - a wonderful cozy basic. I am unsure about no closure.

DH has been on a roll this week. He looked at it this morning and said "huh, looks like something my dad would wear".

It has to go back now. If you know my FIL you would understand! I could never wear it and not think of that comment.

LOL Thistle. Back it goes and I totally understand. My red/white striped shirt lasted less than 5 minutes once "Where's Waldo" popped into my head. No recovery after that.
