K/R - Donald Pliner Boots from NAS

I know, I know...why am I even asking this question? Well, I love the way they look but I've really been struggling to style these. I know there are several of you out there that have these - I'd love it if you posted outfits. I need inspiration! Or maybe they just don't quite make my heart sing and I should take them back and move on? I've looked at a few other red boots. Given that my casual style goal is moving towards modern, funky, cool, hip (if that's even possible, LOL!), what do you think of any of these? I'm looking to wear them with various styles of jeans - tucked skinnies, under boot cuts, with jeggings...

1. Recent pic of me in the Donald J. Pliner boots. I think they look pretty good here, but I've had trouble coming up with other outfits. They feel strange to me not cuffed - do they look weird in the picture on the right?

I do like them cuffed and uncuffed. They are such a pretty color and would go well with many colors ... black, white, teal, gray, blue. I like all of the alternatives, but honestly I like the ones you have the best.

I own a pair of Wolkies, but mine are shoes not boots. Most comfortable pair of shoes I own, and I go out of my way to buy comfortable shoes.

Yeah it's mainly the weather. I even considered returning them but they're the only flat burgundy boot that I really like. Plus I got fashion side tracked by my Isabel Marant wedge sneakers. I have the perfect outfit for the DJP's, just waiting till it gets cooler.

ETA Jenava has worn them a bunch, scroll through her outfits.

Oh, I vote KEEP! They look great on you! The other pictures you've posted look nice, but I don't like any of them as well as the Pliners.

I have the Pliner boots and love them! I hadn't worn them until the last week or so because it's been hot here, but now that it's getting cooler I'm wanting to wear them all the time! I think the heel height is perfect- just low enough that they're totally comfortable to walk in, but not flat. I love the color, too- a beautifully complex shade of red that is not too bright, but still definitely red.
So far I've worn mine uncuffed with skinny jeans tucked into them, and I really like how they look. I'm sure I'll try them cuffed, too, just for variety.

I'll try to post an outfit picture soon. This past Sunday I wore them to breakfast at our local coffee shop with skinny jeans and an over-sized chambray shirt partially unbuttoned over a black tank. Totally simple, but I felt like the boots made the outfit so much more interesting. I wore them again today with black skinnies, a black tee, and a big slouchy black, gray and white patterned cardigan. Once again they made me feel fab as can be.

All that said, if you don't really love them then you should return them. But before you do, play around with some outfits. I really liked how they looked on you with that striped shirt.

I really like 2,3,4 and 7. BUT I love the Pliners on you, very much. I think you can wear them either way, though i prefer them cuffed in that picture. But they don't look weird uncuffed! I think they fit very well with your style goal. Keep!

I DO really like the looks of the Fluevogs, though... and I am not usually a Vogger.

I like the color and I think they look cool with this outfit. Honestly I find this mid-calf length hard to wear. I like some of the other booties better. I think they would be more versatile with skirts, dresses, jeans etc.

Christy I have a preferenced for the boots in #1 un cuffed, but both work. I also Love the boots in 6/7/8 ... sorry I am not much help. I would keep #1.

Have you thought to treat these boots (being red or burgundy) as a neutral and not worry too much about "matching" them. I think they look great on your leg.

Thanks everyone - sounds like overall the recommendation is to keep the Pliners. I'll keep playing around with them and see how they work.

I don't get what is not "cool, modern and funky" about the Pliners. To my eye, they are a cut above all the other styles you posted.

We've also got to get away from using the word cool all the time. It seems so over used - don't you think? Topic for another day!

Thanks for chiming in Angie - I agree that they are cool and funky and I love them in Jenava's posts! I'm just having trouble styling them for myself for some reason. I'll keep playing around with them. Do you think they can work with skirts on me? Cuffed or uncuffed? And obviously they work with skinnies tucked into them. I'll keep working on it! I have my homework!

And yes, you are absolutely right about "cool" being overused. I want a modern vibe that's a little "risky" for me, a little "out there". I'm having trouble coming up with the words!

Christy, I hear you. The cuff is harder to style than an uncuffed style - although you can uncuff them. Have you tried them with your BF jeans? White jeans? Try them with a casual dress too!

I agree with Angie - these boots are more stylish and probably better or as good quality as the others you posted - and I think they're the most modern.

I adore mine. They're so soft and comfy and the color is good. I tend to wear mine with skinny jeans rolled up and the cuffs down, but you could also wear the cuffs up under bootcuts. I've also worn mine with the vince camuto midi tube skirt. (sorry no piccie of that one).

Also, FWIW, I try not to think about matching the color. I don't mind mixing this color with lots of colors that "go" but don't match. I don't feel I need to have the color repeated elsewhere in my outfit.

I will add my 2 cents. I bought those boots in that color and brought them back. They are funky, trendy, comfortable and great quality, just not for me. I have found that when I start second guessing I need to bring the item back. It usually means something about it is not working.

I love the Pliners on you, Christy, both cuffed and uncuffed. However, if they aren't wowing you, then return 'em and choose something that does. You've picked out some great substitutes. I hadn't heard of Planet Shoes either—thanks Una!—and one of your choices, the Wolky Tyler, was my top pick after I paged through all the booties earlier. I also really like #3 and #6. Right now, I'm trying to talk myself down from buying that boot. Guess I'll have to go read up on the planet's return policy.

Christy, these Pliner boots look very good on you - why do you have second thoughts? I know you said you don't know how to style them but is it a usual issue for you when you get some new style to play with or is this just these particular boots? What I want to say that if you usually find it not easy to get a new style incorporated into your wardrobe it may be just an adjustnment factor. On the other hand it may be that this particular style - does not matter how great, trendy and interesting - does not work for your style.
I think they should work for all wasy of wear you described - under bootcuts, with skinnies, I would also try them with shorter modern dresses - and you can wear them uncuffed under the skinnies.

I think the boots look great on you. With that said, I am very cerebral when it comes to returning an item, when I run into a situation like this. I'd rather have the regret of returning something prematurely, than having an orphan in my closet. I think you will have an easier time styling these if you don't try to repeat the color elsewhere, as others indicated.
