K/R - Color Block Coat (or an extra in low budget sci fi)

Trying this color blocked very graphic coat. If it passes muster, I will have to order a size up as I can't lift my arms very high in it. Not high enough to comfortably carry DD, and, well, my lifestyle demands that!

On a side note, DH hates this coat. He thinks I look like an extra in a low budget sci fi film. On the bad guy's ship, no less.

I think that the colors are a little harsh on you and overwhelm you. I would vote to return.

Carrying your husband made me do a double take too! I love the graphic look of this coat, but it seems a bit harsh compared to your softer wardrobe. But heck, if it's a new direction for you, I'm a big fan of black and white.

I like the blue moto much better than this one. I think there's too much contrast in the pocket area. I'd love to know what Angie would say about it.

Not a fan, though there's no law against trying something different-- a return to Mod. But I think it's more costume-y than you need and also agree re: poor pocket placement.
Something grabbed you about this, though-- is there a certain look you'd like to try for spring, and what would get you there?

I love this coat! It's got a mod vibe on one hand but also a kind of classic with a twist look about it. It's a little different for you but could simply be time to add some statement pieces to your wardrobe. If you love it, I say keep.

I do not like this on you dear Thistle. The white detailing overwhelms you. I do not like the fit either and think with a size up the fit issues would persist. It is not about this not being your usual style- its about the fit being off and the placement of the graphic design pieces that do not do justice to your body.

I think the white epalute is super flattering to your shoulder line. The pocket placement doesnt bother me a bit. The fabric looks mixed medua withmore shine on the body than the sleeve? Will a limited longevity of the mixed media trend bother you? I think the size up would be worth trying but i do take pause at your DH comments. I dont usually keep things my DH has a strong negative opinion on since they dont end up being happy pieces when i wear them.

First up I have to say I'm not a fan of the coat at all and probably wouldn't like it on anyone, its simply not a style I can relate to. For you I feel the coat is wearing you, rather than the other way around.

However you are the one that will be wearing it. Do you love it, is it at least an 8/10 for you? If so keep it and enjoy it, if not let it go.

I love the 60's Mod Squad vibe of this coat! I want one for myself. If this is the type of coat you're looking for, go for it, I'm sure you will rock it. A new style direction or a little style detour can be a good thing.

In general I like this coat. I'm new to the community so I don't know what your personal style is so can't comment on that (although I am a fan of pushing oneself out of your style comfort zone on a regular basis).

I am in agreement with Sona, though, that the placement of the details (the white contrast details to the pockets) is not positioned correctly on your body, so it creates a bit of oddness in the look of the fit.

If you do decide to keep it I'd definitely recommend wearing it with a slimmer pant. It looks like it has a bit of an "A" line shape to it which would be better complemented by a legging and boots or slim fit jeans to compliment your figure, imho.

And I actually love the fact it looks a bit like something out of a mod sci-fi movie. But that's largely because I love rather unique style choices that help convey one's personality without having to say a word.

I love it! But it is such a distinctive, noticeable coat, I think that if you wear it, you gotta commit to to it completely. Like the above suggestion, I would wear it with a slimmer pant. And I think you can do a lot of styling via hair and makeup, so that people still notice your beautiful face, and the coat doesn't wear you. Maybe a light cat-eye with makeup, and slick your hair up into a high 60's ponytail or up into a bun. Or a low ponytail, but pulled back completely off the face. Something that, once you've done it, you don't have to fuss with it again.

I think even when someone has a signature 'style'... when you have a deep abiding gut reaction of I LOVE IT to something that is outside the box... you have to go with it.

I'm with Mo, the coat is very mod and I don't think your personal style is mod. Your style is minimalist at times, but not high-contrast mod. I notice the details on the coat more that I notice you, and you're the star of your show.

It's a deal breaker that DH loathes it isn't it, and that you can't carry DD. So for those reasons, I vote return. xo

I agree with Sona. The elements of this jacket are fabulous in theory, but when put all together they just don't work to my eye. And I am laughing at your DH's analogy! I wouldn't have seen it that way had you not mentioned it, but as they say, what is seen cannot be unseen.

I agree with those who say it looks a little like it's wearing you. I think I'd actually like it a lot without the white lines around the pockets but, with those, it seems like it's screaming "Look! I'm graphic and mod and high-contrast! And did I say mod?"

I think it looks great, I love the black and white and the style is fabulous.
On the other hand......for me comfort is always top priority and if it's not easy to wear then it's not for me

Isn't it funny that people either love this coat, or hate it? But I didn't see/skimmed (okay, skimmed) the part about not being able to pick up your baby easily or comfortably. To me, that would be a deal-breaker.
