Keep or return: the dress and skirt edition!

Yesterday I did a huge shopping trip. I usually shop at Thrifts and it was thrilling to shop at places with a selection of sizes and wonderful sales associates to bring me things!

I would like advice on 3 items: a dress, a skirt and a sweater. All were pricey so I want these to be "10's" and am happy to return :

First up is a skirt from White house Black Market, a store I'd never been in before.

The fantastic SA first showed it to me with a white blouse and a great necklace, but I only purchased the skirt and I'm showing it with my own blouse and a black tank. Then she showed it to me with a matching sweater, and put the belt over the sweater.

The skirt and sweater are WAY out of my comfort zone. So much pink! I'm usually much more tailored and casual. Is this too twee? Or is this a good step out of my zone? Also, since I can't wear heels, these somewhat dorky black sandals are what I'd wear it with, I think.....or is there a better no heels option????

I think it looks better IRL than in my photograph, it's navy with white dots. Does it fit properly or is it too big? I cannot wear heels and would wear them with these red Dansko sandals.

I really love your new skirt with your white blouse, and especially with the black tank--it gives it a whole different look. Really love it. The sweater belted over the skirt is definitely a different and more tailored/conservative look than the first two. I know this look is very popular with a lot of YLFers so you'll probably get lots of thumbs up on this one. I like it, but it is (as you mentioned) a real departure for you, so the important question is whether you feel ok with it. Is this a direction you want to go with your wardrobe, or were you following the salesclerk's style? Sometimes this can happen!

I would definitely switch up the black sandals with some neutral/nude ones. That way the beautiful colors in the skirt can be the focal point.

That AT dress is KILLER (to use Angie's phrase!). I absolutely love it on you. Definitely keep!

I love all three pieces and definitely think you should keep them all! I think the skirt is great and actually prefer it with the black tank over the white shirt. I think it looks GREAT with the pink cardigan and don't think it is matchy-matchy--it matches the non-dominant pink in the skirt, so it looks perfect. The AT dress is beautiful on you as well. Keep, keep and keep!

I love the skirt with the black tank and belt and also with the pink sweater. I second the recommendation for nude shoes or sandals. I think the dress is fab, too.

I love the skirt with the black tank and black belt! I would go with a lighter color shoe, though, maybe nude.

The dress is totally amazing, LOVE!!!

ETA: I'm not really feeling the pink cardigan, but maybe that's just me??? I'd love to see the skirt with a little denim cropped jacket.

To me, the skirt looks too short when worn with the belted sweated- I think that it needs to be below the knee for the proportions to work. I like it a lot with the black top. That works much better IMO. I would like to see a lighter shoe when you wear it with the white blouse.

The dress is beautiful and looks lovely on you. I vote keep the skirt and the dress. Not sure about the sweater.

Love the skirt with the black tank and belt. I think it would look nice with the cardi open over it too. I am using a not so great monitor so the color seems just a touch off for me but the cardi fit is definitely a 10. The dress looks like a keeper too.

I love that dress on you; it manages to highlight about 20 great things at once!

With the crowd in preferring the black tank with the floral skirt; I like the idea of white or a light or medium grey with it (if those flatter your skintone), but I tend to prefer camp skirts with more fitted things (straight skirts, tailored shorts, jeans).

I think I saw you had some metallic or lighter ballet flats in another thread? I'd try those with the skirt vs the black sandals (and I agree with other comments along the same lines).

To my eye the cardigan's color is just enough off with the pinks in the skirt to be discordant vs tonal. It's a bit nails-on-blackboard for me (sorry!).

WHBM started with only black/white/grey items and hasn't been in the "color business" that long, so I'm thinking that pairing is a stretch.

I don't think the skirt is too short, but I think it's the shoes. Nude shoes and you will appear to have extra long legs !

Another vote for the skirt with the black and the pink! I would wear the skirt with the pink sweater and belt in a heartbeat! I can't really comment on the black dress because my 'black is not my favourite colour' filter is hard for me to bypass :).

Isis, I've just taken a closer look at the skirt on your link - I love the way it is hemmed. The extra width and stitching holds the skirt out in such a ladylike way! Beautiful...

#1-Love the skirt for colors and fit. Not twee at all. I do prefer the black and pink pairings over the white shirt. A denim shirt might also be fun with this skirt. I vote keep. The AT dress, is gorgeous and looks super fab with the red sandals, another keeper. Nice picks!
