I bought some sparkly black pants, on deep discount at Anthropologie (here's the link if you're interested: http://www.anthropologie.com/a.....lateType=D). They aren't sequined, but the fabric itself is sparkly. I was seduced by the price and the fit: they are long enough and fit me well through the hips and thighs (SO even remarked that they "Make your butt look good"--this is a rare event, sort of like a solar eclipse or leap year, so I really took note :).
Anyway, the "con" is that I was worried about versatility. How often could I really wear these pants, given my life as a professor and mom on the go? I actually had them packaged and ready to be returned, in my car, but then a snowstorm derailed my plans. Then I started to reconsider, just because I feel like they fit so well and frankly I feel quite glamorous in them. I decided to try a few outfits and see what you all think. These would still be worn mostly at night, and mostly during the cooler months, I would guess. I figure if I wear them for a few years, then I will be satisfied with my cost per wear.
I know it's a lot of pics--sorry if it's too overwhelming! Sorry if the light isn't as bright as it could be--we have snow covering our skylights, so it's even dimmer than usual. Frank feedback welcome, of course.
1) With a navy silk top, tucked to show the detail on the pants, and a necklace. I was sort of enjoying the androgynous aspects of this one, since the shirt is almost like a ruffled men's tux shirt.
2) Side view.
3) Rearside riveters view.
4) Possible holiday work party option: with cobalt blue silky jacket and black and gray leopard silk scarf.
5) For the ballet we'll be attending in January: silk top by Tibi with tree scene in vivid colors, sort of semi-tucked. To give you a sense of scale, these earrings are 4 inches long :).
6) Back view of deep V on top--somehow this makes it seem like an evening wear top to me.
7) A bit more casual/artsy: with boxy mohair sweater and some bangles and a pendant.
8) I saved this one for last because I was guessing it might be everyone's favorite :). Paired with red and blue bold plaid shirt, black necklace, and bangles. I will be in Santa Fe for the holiday; I was thinking this would be a fun look for art gallery hopping and a somewhat casual dinner out with friends.
9) Close-up of necklace and bangles.
