Keep or return: Last pre-Nordstrom Anniversary Sale buys

I don't usually make so many purchases close to the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, but several of the items I had a crush on went on sale (or became more affordable through Nordstrom Notes), filling some of the wardrobe niches that I would normally have looked for during the anniversary sale.

I think that all three of these items are keepers and will work as year-round items for work and smart casual wear, but would like your confirmation.

#1-3: Suzi Chin for Maggy Boutique faux-wrap dress. So comfortable and flattering, and I'm thinking I will wear it to the upcoming wedding with the purple-loving bride.

#4-6: Payton black knit blazer with white trim. I've been longing for a Chanel-esque jacket like this for a while, and this is a very thick, high quality knit. I would probably not wear it buttoned up because I prefer jackets unbuttoned, but it does fit buttoned up if I need it to.

#7-8: Pleione dolman sleeve black top with green polka dots.

So on to the forum. Are these purchases approved?

Oh my goodness Kari, totally breathtaking!!

#1 is a stunner and you must keep.

#4 is right up my alley so you know Im going to love it. I am not used to seeing you in black and I would just suggest that you add some color near your face like you have with the green in the blouse. So I say keeper.

#7 is lovely.

I'm a huge fan of that Peyton jacket and I want one too (and probably will get one). Love that! Also love the dress and polka dot top! I vote keep everything.

I agree with Deborah. All of these pieces look lovely. The dress looks gorgeous on you. Very flattering and such a lovely color. I have a huge crush on the black jacket with the white tipping. I tried one on several times a couple of months ago, even brought it home, but just could't figure out a way to wear it. Now you've inspired me. The next time that opportunity comes up, I'll know what to wear!

I love all three of these. The shape of all of them are flattering, but I have to say that I'm not that crazy about black on you. You look so pretty with color, but it's true, you could add some color towards your face when you wear the jacket.

That blue dress is AMAZING on you Kari! Wow - does that colour just pop against your gorgeous complexion. And the fit/shape is fantastic.

I also love the polka dot blouse - so pretty. And like others, as long as you have some colour on with the jacket, it's a keeps! Love the contrast trim and fit. It looks great paired with your green skirt and polka dot blouse.

Jem, I hear you (and really do appreciate your honest response!) I actually like black with color (like the green polka dots) but I like solid black like the jacket best with some color (a blouse, necklace, etc) near my face. That is a big part of the reason why I'd wear the jacket open. And I like black on me better when my hair is freshly dyed. Right now it's faded quite a bit!

Kari - You look smashing in all of these! I have to tell you, though, that I can't see these white tipped jackets that are popular now without thinking of The Prisoner But that's just my personal geek problem!

P.S. The grey and yellow Tahari dress arrived and is going back - the bodice is too long waisted for me. Nice to see in person though. Thank goodness for Zappo's free returns.

I know what you mean about the black and hair color. I have a similiar problem with black, but sometimes a black jacket would come in handy (and I love the tipping). In fact, I've pretty much stopped buying black, but sometimes regret returning a black pinstriped blazer I returned last year. Sometimes it would come in handy. Anyway, all three items fit you perfectly!

I have to agree with opinions so far. The blue dress is absolutely smashing on you and is SO flattering that you musn't even consider not keeping it. It is gorgeous. The black jacket is incredibly classic and will coordinate with so many things. It fits beautifully and looks like a quality piece. I wouldn't give that up, either. And the blouse is beautiful, although it is hard to tell whether it is the piece or the way you have styled it (love the green skirt). You have wonderful fashion sense and I think you could style ANYTHING so that it looked fantastic!

The blue dress is stunning. Be careful with the Pleione top. Mine accidentally ended up in the wash and shrunk terribly...be sure to hand wash!

That dress is gorgeous on you! The top and jacket are also lovely, although the jacket is reading slightly cardigan-ish to me, which is fine if that's what you want.

I think the dress is amazing....a 12! (had to top Angie's "11!"). Also love the green dotted dolman sleeve blouse as well. The jacket is fab too, but it's not an 11 or 12 - maybe a 9.5-ish? I love the Chanel-ish vibe to it, though.

In the meantime, you are looking FAB Kari - wow!

Thanks to all of you. I'll keep the top and dress for sure. I'll think about the jacket. If this isn't really the most fab cut or the quality doesn't measure up, I'd rather return it than end up with a closet orphan!

Wow just wow! That coral dress and green polka dot top are simply stunning on you! (I tried the polka dot top and returned it--as an apple, I guess I don't have the right shape for it--didn't fill out the top enough but filled out the middle too much, LOL!) Is there any dress that doesn't love you Kari! So so fab! Love the green skirt too--is that the Vince Camuto midi tube skirt? And are those black pumps the same ones as your orange Ecco pumps?

I love them all, but I am wearing a similar jacket today and just put both colors in my wishlist. If you're considering returning, I would hang onto it until the NAS just in case.

Great dress, and kimono top, keep them. Jacket is more of a cardi (fabric) so not that structurred enough I think-and if this is OK for you, then keep-see what Angie say.

I want to hear Angie's thought on the jacket too! Very curious on the professional's thoughts. I've tried it on myself and loved it, but have been waiting for further markdowns. I think it's a great piece... I love knit jackets like that. Maybe a different color would be better for you, Kari? They had a nice navy with green piping.

Fair question, Kari!

To my eye the jacket is a little too snug in the arms. The sleeves are too long and it does not look best when buttoned up. It looks nicer un-buttoned, but just not a 10. Something about it is borderline frumpy. It's just not Mad-Men-Retro enough to look cool. I hope this makes sense.

When you set a high style standard Kari, I will go to great lengths to help you maintain it - which means splitting hairs at times!

The dress is my favourite of this lot. It looks stunning on you. The top fits right into your wardrobe and it is also perfect.
I have to confess that I read Angie's opinion about the jacket and I see her point although before I read it I might have said that it was a good jacket.
