Keep or cull - olive jacket

I'm attacking the coat closet. I bought this lightweight spring/fall jacket three years ago in Portland and still like it, but it's a bit of an orphan.

What do you think? Not one of my usual colors, maybe not my best.

Please ignore lack of styling and post-run hair.

I like the jacket a lot, but the color just doesn't seem right for you. Maybe it's time to pass it on since you're not wearing it.

To me it's too attention-grabby. "Look, I have these cool straps! Look, I'm so edgy!" I mean, I do love the color and Janet 's jackets always fit great. It just doesn't rise to her usual standard.

I love the straps (vive la différence). It is the different size buttons that is making it feel a little dated imo - would you consider changing them? I think this could be a great transition piece

I think the large buttons, large collar and large strip of material are all overwhelming to your petite features. I see the jacket, and not you! You can do better!

A jacket likely this can be incredibly versatile but this one looks a wee bit dated in your photos. I see why you don't reach for it as far better options in your closet.

I would pass it on.

I love this jacket. My take on it is that the olive might be a bit too yellow for you. I adore olive but have a lot of trouble finding the right shade for me, so those are the goggles I am looking through.

The utility jacket aspect of it is on trend. But the buttons need to be uniform for it to look more current. How does it look open?

It is difficult for me to be objective. I love the jacket but I have never really liked that colour, but if it's been an orphan I would suggest sell it on Ebay and make some $$ for something else fab

This is a cute jacket: unique and stylish. But there is something that is just not right, and that is preventing you from wearing it all the time. I THINK it might be the two larger buttons on the front closure. Maybe you could change the buttons and enjoy it more? Otherwise, I think the colour is fab, and the cut and size and style are ALMOST perfect for you...

I don't wear green, but about a month ago I bought an olive green jeans jacket and I am loving it. It is so versatile and goes with pretty much everything.

I do like your version of it and having had this experience I previously described, I would keep this utilitarian coat. Since your coat has many details, maybe you would start grabbing for it after pairing it with some very simple pieces like a cotton maxi summer dress/maxi skirt (preferably in black; back grey and even white will do too).

As a last resource, you can also exchange the buttons for tiny old dark golden ones (like the ones from regular jeans jackets).

Thanks, everybody. I haven't pulled the trigger on the eBay listing yet, but I have a lot of jackets that I grab before this one. The color is part of the issue, I'm sure. It's not a color I regularly wear, and I usually shy away from these yellowy-greens -- I look better in bluer-toned ones and they are much more prevalent in my wardrobe. The buttons bother me now, too, but if you look closely you will see that the pattern would probably look odd if I swapped out the buttons -- the alternating smaller buttons are not equally spaced to the larger ones.

It is not a great jacket to wear open because the straps are not tacked down (I suppose I could try that) and they sort of hang and get caught on things.

I have enough grab-and-go casual jackets, even for mucking around, yard work, and such, and honestly, this jacket seems a little too nice for yardwork. I'd rather get a little cash back on it than relegate it to infrequent use in that kind of setting.

Seeing this jacket again, on my laptop rather than iphone screen, I agree that it's too yellowy an olive. Here is an example of a flattering olive color in a jacket I'm currently pining for (they call it "kale"):

I'm not sure who would be flattered by such a yellow tone. It seems harsh.
