Love that article Angie-and how you encourage us to find out own personal style. There's nothing wrong with saying "I don't feel good in that trend" or "it doesn't appeal to me/fit my life" and leave it. Pass on the things that make you feel bad or inauthentic, no matter how trendy, and keep the ones that make you feel great!

Interesting thoughts about high rise jeans while I’ve been asleep! I stand by what I said that women are sort of “meant” ( by biology) to have a little tummy curve. But I think I must have a bit of a poison eye for it too, like ElizabethP and lisap. And that comes down to personal preference, because your tummy is not at all big Anchie! So if you are feeling unhappy with it, there should hopefully be other jeans that show it less.

Also I don’t think it’s telling you you CAN’T wear them. You certainly can and you will rock them and look better than 1000 other women would. The tummy responses I think are trying to address a specific question you asked and how we feel about that look.

Hrm, I guess I don't see anything wrong with a tummy. I have one, and in some styles it's dreadful (I don't like it willfully hanging out by itself) but I think these are fine, and I wear high rise with tummy on display a lot. (and I don't see a prominent tummy, here, tbh, I think that's nonesense. and I'm sorry you now have a bunch of ladies opinions on yours; I can image I'd not like that very much, myself).

I see you've passed on them, though. I hope you'll reconsider if you really like them. Maybe think of some outfits and then revisit?

I see you've already decided not to keep these, but I think they look amazing on you.

It took me quite a while to figure out what was meant by the tummy issue, because all I could see in the pic is some folds of your shirt because the shirt wasn't tucked in--which isn't the same as having a problem with the tummy. IMO, high rises are great for holding in the tummy; I don't see them as emphasizing a tummy at all. I have had worse luck with lower-rise jeans, which can give a person muffin top. I think that high rises are actually very flattering overall.

I like Jenava's idea of reconsidering, if you feel drawn to them. I really think these look spectacular on you.

Look Jenava if someone asks about something they have noticed about their own pic, I think it is fair to answer with our opinions. If no one ever said anything at all critical on here, then how can anyone improve their outfits to their own satisfaction? If they thought their outfits were perfect they wouldn’t ask. The three of us who have said anything about the tummy have said we don’t think Anchie has a big one, it is more likely our own poison eye, etc etc so that we are trying to be kind and thoughtful. Now it feels like you are criticising us for giving a requested opinion. Sure, you may not like that for yourself- so never ask then! It has been stated by myself and I think the other two naysayers that we think Anchie has a fabulous figure.
There are some Fabbers who never post WIWs because they are either always happy with what they wear or else they do not care to ask. I think Gryffin is one.
I expect, especially if I have asked about a particular body part’s appearance, that I will be likely to get both positive and negative opinions. That is why I ask. My shoulders are broad enough, if I have put myself out there, that I can accept some negative responses. And often the first brave person to say something negative is followed by someone else. If I am feeling precious about my body at that time of posting, then I don’t ask.
Anchie will make her own decision I’m sure, only informed by us.

I really hope that no one is feeling bad for participating in this thread and stating their honest opinions. I did ask for it and I appreciate it. It is not easy to be critical but still polite. But I am also touched by Jeneva’s and Gigi’s kindness - thank you so much for making me feeling better.
I also agree with Sal - I never felt good in long tops and tunics and trying to hide my shape just makes me feel like a blob, so I prefer showing some shape even if it is not perfect. I am not giving up on high waisted jeans but will try some more models.
I must admit that I am well aware of my problems zones and flaws but I also don’t easily form new one based on others opinions. For example, few days ago I was shopping for new mascara and stopped by sisley counter to try some. Guy working there mentioned my small lashes at least 8 times, and I was actually chuckling inside every time he mentioned them. I was thinking if I should tell him that if he wants to be good at his job that he should not focus so much on customer’s flaws. But I don’t agree with his opinion of my lashes, and don’t think they are that small, just average. I have my issues but lashes are not one of them and I really don’t want to worry about new issue LOL. But maybe someone else would be affected by his opinion. Maybe even me when I was younger.
So I still don’t think that I have big of a tummy, just average like my lashes:) But I do have a bulge from a surgery on right side of my abdomen, you can maybe see it between the zipper and the pocket - and that is something I would rather not show off. And that is why I always pose with my right leg up front to create some creases to hide it

Thank you Anchie, you’ve beautifully managed to praise everyone!
I agree with you about the mascara salesman. What was he thinking? Possibly making his customers feel bad is not likely to make them want to come back. I am a customer who does not forget these things and would deliberately avoid him/that brand in the future.

Anchie, listen to your feelings and rock on.

Suntiger, thank you

Can I please point something out about the tummy discussion? Photographs and lighting can create a tummy issue where there is none, or emphasize what is there. Overhead lighting can make us look like we have bags under our eyes for the same reason.

Anchie, you look fabulous in these jeans. The rear view is great.

And I agree with Lisa that trendy does not always equal attractive.

Ok, I read yesterday without being logged in (so no photos) and was fully prepared to say, "well, I think you can do better, it's all about feeling good in something and high-waisted can be tough to pull off"

BUT OMG

you look amazing in these!! Front *and* back.

And that's with cropping the photo to basically highlight the stomach area...I mean that's what I had to look at and I just saw a flattering line.

So now I'm on the "hope you'll revisit this pair" side with the same attitude you have about your lashes haha!

Count me with the I don't see a problem here and I think you look super in the jeans. And count me with the sincere and well meant opinions should always be welcome even if I don't agree with them. And count me with trendy is just one component of style and not a necessary one. In case we are counting!

Gosh , Anchie, the color/dark wash , fit and length of these are superb. Really hope you get them...fabulous on you . Jmho!

What Gigi said.

I am among those who think you look GORGEOUS in these jeans. And I guess that millions of women would wish they had a tummy as tiny as yours.

Having said that, I just want to add that when you have to make up your mind regarding an outfit, a side view in the mirror--or a side picture--will often be very helpful.

After so many positive feedback I am reconsidering this jeans, but unfortunately don’t have chance to return to the store any time soon. Thought of ordering them online but just realized that I only took a note of size and model but not color and fabric content. And now it seems that there are few similar dark wash pairs of that exact model with very different fabric contents.

I’m glad you are reconsidering! Do you have any of the paperwork from the store on the original shipment ?
Also you may be able to call and ask for the info on your last purchase , I’m sure it’s in the computer . Good luck

Taylor - I haven’t ordered them before, I just tried them on in the store.

Oh, gotcha !
I was confused ....:)

Anchie, I thought the jeans were KILLER so I'm glad you're reconsidering.

Well, I am very late here, but I love them on you!

I also love the honesty of the discussion. And I had to laugh with you about the lashes comments, Anchie. How many times have I got the same line at the cosmetics counter? One reason I am not fond of buying make up. I wear the stuff but I do not like to be lectured about my supposed "flaws" while buying it. Even when I don't agree about the "flaws." As a younger person, it could wound....

Anyway, this is the thing -- especially from the side, high waists to show that we have tummy curves (those of us who have them) -- and there are days when I feel a bit bloated or whatever, and I will choose a different type of pant. But a lot has to do with lighting, photo angle, etc. And styling.

You look sensational in these to my eye.

I think the issue of trends deserves its own thread!

There's nothing wrong with your tummy or your lashes! Salesman was probably on commission :p
One at Ulta thought I needed $80 undereye circles treatment...

Those are some sexy jeans! Sort of Marilyn Monroe in the Misfits.
