Great update! I love that colorblocked top from Boden, and I think your reasoning on the jeans is sound. I have a really hard time reconciling comfort and flattery when it comes to jeans and pants. Finding pairs that offer both is almost impossible.
I missed out on suntiger's original thread and haven't quite decided how I'm going to budget this year. I generally try to stay under 50 "wearable" items total (that includes everything: basics, gear, accessories like sunnies and jewelry), and except for a few very specific categories (footwear and outerwear), I have a fairly strict "double digit" pricing rule: nothing over $100 except in very special circumstances. I might try chopping my annual total down to 25 or 30 items since I'm really in maintenance-mode at this point, no need to add more. My price limit works well for me and I plan to stick to it.
I feel I don't need much right now and have been incredibly picky about buying/trying this past month. In fact, my *only* wardrobe-related purchases in January were basics (2 bralettes, 4 briefs, and a pair of HEWI navy micro-fishnet tights). I ordered a few other things to try (two dresses, a pair of pants, a pair of boots), but all of them went back. On the bright side, I think my basics shopping for the year is complete!
My big purchase in February will probably be a pair of insulated ski pants. (Of course, if I didn't count gear and basics, I'd still be at zero...) After that, I might start thinking about making my spring/summer additions.
