January 30x30 outfit 24 lavender jersey jacket and green

Today it´s Friday and I wore outfit 24 of this challenge. Decided on a soft lavender coloured jacket (I am not really sure, if it is a cardigan actually, but it is lined, so I call it a jacket). I combined it with a black top, straight black trousers, black booties and one of my oldest scarfs - a large green silk scarf with purple detail in the pattern. I added some faux pearls in green and beige/lavender.

I wore this outfit with my large snake patterned bag, No 1. I also tried it with a smaller green metallic bag, No 2.

I quite like the outfit, but I do not love it. The jacket is not a favourite, it is seldom used. I find the colour difficult for my colouring - I realise more and more that I am happier in brighter, stronger colours. I am happy with the fit, but I prefer more structured jackets, if it makes sense...

What do you guys think of the outfit? Too much? Does it work with the bags? I am grateful for honest feedback, suggestions or whatever comes to mind.

I think it looks great in both renditions, but given your feelings about the jacket perhaps you should pass it on because of your preferences for structure and different colors. You have so many beautiful things that you love. I love the scarf.

Beautiful! This jacket is different from your usual colors, but I think the lavender looks good on you. I also feel happier in stronger colors, but for me it’s that I am so pale I feel washed out in pastels. Do the darker and brighter greens in the scarf help with the happiness factor for you? I prefer the green bag in picture 2 as it reinforces the bright green near your face.

I think the green in the scarf makes the jacket work but can see that the lavender color could otherwise wash you out. I like the green bag best for the color but the snake bag best for size. I really like the pearls with the rest of the outfit.

I like this jacket- but I’m a bit biased because lavender is one of my favorites. I think the first bag looks more current. Having the scarf with the green does create a bold contrast which works beautifully on you. However.... if you’re not happy then it’s not good! You gotta be happy in it. Maybe you could try the jacket with some white pants?

I think the jacket is lovely with your scarf and my pic would be the snakeskin bag, due to the size. If you aren’t feeling a happiness factor with this outfit go ahead and move on. You have so many outfits that resonate with who you are. You don’t need to settle.

This is a fabulous outfit - I love your strong, graphic style. The green bag really pops, but both work well. As to the jacket - it LOOKS fantastic, but if it doesn't FEEL great, then I agree with Mainelady - no need to settle. Do you think if you paired it with black and white, it might feel a little stronger? Just a thought ...

Tanstaafl and Joy, thank you, you are right, it is the green scarf which is the happiness factor here. I tried softer colours with this jacket, but it did not work for me at all. It washes me out and I prefer bolder contrasts.

Jussie, thank you and thanks for the advice. White pants and some crisp white scarf or a column of white could work well with this jacket later on in the spring... I will try this option before I decide on the jacket.

It has occurred to me that the levander might work with clear red. What do you guys think of that? Or would it be clashing?

What a beautiful scarf Katrina. I like the jacket too but the scarf really draws the eye. I am slowly learning to go with my feelings and not question them. You have so many beautiful outfits if this outfit just doesn't feel right to you then it doesn't.

I have definite color preferences by season, could it be that pastels, even mid tone ones, do not feel right to you in the winter? Maybe you will like it better in the spring with white as Jussie suggested.

I echo others — great outfit but if it doesn’t feel right *for you* listen to your gut!

I like the idea of trying it again later in spring to see if this is a seasonal preference for you. I also think lavender + red sounds fab so I would love to see that combo.

You also mentioned that it is a softer knit jacket. Maybe you just don’t feel right in such items and prefer a more structured woven topper. I am the opposite, I never feel right in woven jackets! But I understand how strong and definitive such preferences can be. Don’t force it!

Lilac plus green is such a bold, unexpected pairing! I think the snake bag adds a bit of edginess. I hope you'll revisit the jacket later in the spring -- maybe the colour will feel more suitable when the light changes. Perhaps adding extra structure somewhere else in the outfit would help? A chunky heel, a wide belt, etc?

I really love this outfit, and I think it will carry well into the spring! I prefer the first bag to the second, I think more because of the proportions. The first bag is a strong, dramatic bag for a strong, dramatic look. The second bag looks a bit dainty to me.

I think that jacket is so good on you, and I'm wondering if you might try tweaking other parts of the outfit to up your happiness factor - specifically try different shoes, different hosiery and try swapping the pants out for a very fitted and fierce pencil skirt. (Your hair is awesome, and it's making me think of Bettie Page).

Also, I can't quite make out your lip color, but maybe something a little bolder in a color that coordinates with your jacket, or add a gloss.

Thank you Lynn, Sarah and LaPed for the kind words and great ideas. I have not actually thought of it before, but yes, seasonal aspects can play a role regarding how I feel about the lavender. The jacket is made of wool, it is quite warm, but I might feel more comfortable in this colour in spring. It is right - the light changes... I have not thought of that! It might make a good outerwear topper in spring.

La Bell D, thank you so very much for the lovely compliments! You are very kind! I LOVE the idea to mix the jacket with a fitted pencil skirt! Wow - thanks for that! I have one in green velvet (used in this outfit 9 of the 30X30). It might work with this jacket and make a really bold and unusual combo together with the green scarf. Yay!

I think this works, but you might like it better with a lighter top and bottoms as suggested. Maybe even tan or camel? That said I think #1 is head turning!

I love that scarf with your jacket and both bags work really well. New colours can be tricky. Sometimes I am not sure if it is because it is a new colour, so I need to get used to it, or whether it just is wrong in the first place. I do find photos help, because it is easier to see how it all comes together. I like wearing lilac with grey, black and denim, but I only like wearing a rather strong lilac, too pale and it washes me out.

I love, love the jacket with that beautiful green scarf. I would like to see it with lighter top and pants as the black seems a little harsh next to the delicate lilac and green combination.
