Jacket challenge: challenging jacket needs help!

I could not for the life of me style my purple j. crew hacking jacket which I got last winter.... It fits well but the purple is totally throwing me off. Maybe because it's wool herringbone, I'm finding it hard to match it with any colors, even black. Any tips?

but mine is a deep grape-ish purple. It's a good color for me, just out of my zone for some reason!

Do you wear navy or charcoal? This is right in my cool jewel sweet spot, and those are the two colors that I would wear with it. It's too cool to wear with any but the coolest browns. A patterned gray would look best, I think. (Very cute jacket, BTW!)

ETA: What was I thinking forgetting green?!? Olive, pine or light green looks great with purple. And mustard too.

I see the cool jewel aspect, but I wonder how it might look when contrasted with warmer but slightly lighter colors. Look how it looks against the backdrop of your furniture. So maybe purple and orange is kinda screamin', and purple & gold is collegiate, but what about deep luggage tan or cognac family of colors. Could actually mix some items of that with gray to warm it up.

Hm, seems a similar colour to my Barbour - have you tried orange, lime, or citron? I also love the moody effect of purple and black.

I love that jacket, Una, both the colour and style are fantastic.

A few more ideas:
- over a striped untucked top and boyfriend jeans / slouchy trousers with booties
- leather skirt and dark purple top/sweater
- grey, black or blue skinny jeans and knee-high or calf-length (moto) boots
- plaid shirt (extra fun if it has red in it)
- wear a grey or teal hoodie underneath with the hood draped over the collar of the jacket
- houndstooth print shirt or scarf
- argyle jumper
- does it work over your multi-coloured dress (was it Ted Baker, I'm not sure)?
- ...

I vote yellow (citron? Mustard?) as a tandem accent: clutch, scarf, shoe...
Striped black and white turtle-neck.
Black on the bottom.

Have you tried burgundy with this? Possibly combined with grey or silver to cool it all down a bit?
