This is why I love this place. You are all so wonderful!
Shannon, I am glad to hear that I am not the only one with this perception. And Nicole, it helps to hear I'm not alone. Ditto Meredith!
Sveta, THANK you for the links. I did just put in a BR order. The trouble is, I really need to order petites from them and also, I have an issue about neckline similar to Angie's. Many scoop necks or Vs or anything too loose up top is not a great idea for me. The best is something rather crisp and with a narrow V or a high neckline, really the opposite of what most people want, so perhaps I shouldn't be surprised that it is tough to find.
Dianthus, you are SO clever; I have not yet been to Mexx. I am going to try them tomorrow. Cross fingers.
Anne, I don't know if I should be happy or sad that this is not just a Canadian problem. Oy. I HOPE you find something that works for you!!
Angie, thank you. I have indeed bought a number of button downs this year and I am SUPER grateful for them. I got some linen button downs at Uniglo in New York when I was there in March, and I have a few from BR from last year, and I intend to order a few from Brooks Brothers, too. I also thrifted a great boyfriend style gingham cotton shirt from American Eagle.
I like them, they suit me (when the fit is correct) and I am immensely grateful that they are available this year, so I'm snapping them up.
BUT. In my climate, long sleeved collared shirts (even if one rolls the sleeves) are just too HOT for high summer. I can't do it. If I lived in air conditioned splendour, maybe, but I don't. So I truly need sleeveless or short sleeved, and preferably a few that are collarless or at least not at all fussy around the collar. But of course that often means loose baggy necklines...and you know that is not a very good look for the likes of me. Sigh.
Laura, the shirt you linked to is GORGEOUS. That's exactly what I need and want. And The Bay and Lord and Taylor are now wed. So I am going to check The Bay's website to see if they have it. They certainly do NOT have it in my local store, but that's not saying anything. They carry mostly the dregs there. Grrr.
Zap - I really like that particular BR top, too, and thought of ordering it. But in Canada it does not come in so many pretty colours. Maybe I will order from the US and have it delivered to hubs when he is there. Please let me know your review of it when it comes!! I did order a couple of other things from them. Crossing fingers. I know what you mean by paper thin. I had a couple of tops from BR last year that were pretty in theory but really were paper thin. I just didn't ever feel comfortable in them so donated them after one wear. Luckily I got them for a couple of dollars a piece so I considered it an education expense!
Krish, I'm heading to Roots tomorrow, too! That is one of the few untouched retail stones.
