Inspired by Katerina: dressing down a blazer. wiw 7.13.21

Inspired by Katerina's recent post, I put this outfit together for an afternoon of a visit to the tailor, shoe repair guy, and my first mani/pedi since salons reopened June 28. 3rd closure these businesses have gone through since March 2020 , and things are tough.

I don't wear blazers very much at all right now - they are more of a spring/fall thing for me, but I wanted to see what I could do with my favourite Smythe jacket that doesn't get a lot of wear. This top, from a small Montreal maker, was a purchase last summer that I didn't love when I received it, but it seems to fit better this year. I don't care for the length but it is what it is. Stupidly hot here this week hence the shorts and tank, but a topper of some sort is needed in a/c. I tried two shoe options - went with the slides. I actually like this look and didn't mind the dressiness that the blazer added. Note: photo without the jacket only to show the tank, which I will NEVER wear alone, don't worry. No one needs to see that . *eyeroll*

What do you think? Too much of a juxtaposition or ok? And yes , this room as a bit of a mess at the moment but I won’t apologize for it

Ooooh! Lisap! This is a great outfit - with, and without the jacket. I think you picked the perfect shoe compliment as well.

Totally understand about the topper for A/C. Stupid hot here as well, but absolutely need a topper for the grocery store.

(ETA: I got a mani/pedi on Saturday! LOL! I went in fully intending to go for classic red, but…)

Love this look on you! The blazer really elevates this outfit and takes it next level. I have those same Fly London slides and they have become work horses for me this summer--I get lots of compliments on them too.

MC - I actually have two pair of these : sandals : black and ivory . Black gets worn a lot , ivory not so much . I think I need a better selection of tops / sweaters in ivory to make them work as part of an outfit . But aren’t they comfy ?

I really love this outfit. At first, I couldn't imagine a blazer with shorts, but this works beautifully. And regarding the whole "No one needs to see that," I have to wonder, see what? You look great both with and without the jacket. The outfit is in no way unflattering, much less inappropriate, with or without the jacket. I may have to copy this look sometime!

Fantastic outfit with AND without the blazer. And hair! I especially like your hair here. Blazer with shorts makes perfect sense in a/c and I would wear this happily (with longer shorts ).

What a fantastic outfit Lisa!! You look amazing. Casual, elegant, powerful and chic. I had forgotten about shorts. I had a dressy short suit, long jacket and dressy cuffed shorts after being obsessed with Julia Robert’s suit in Pretty Woman. I would love another. But I think this is wonderful. I have only one pair of short I bought this year, exactly for the dog days. I haven’t worn them yet. I’m going to have to try something similar. But awesome. Hope you felt amazing all day!!

Thank you all ! It was a different look for me for a day off of work , but one that made me feel much more with-it than usual . I kind of liked the idea of a really casual pair of shorts with a very tailored jacket . And super cheap with super expensive - lol. As to not wearing the tank alone , I prefer a less soft look for upper arms and shoulders on myself , but it’s my own doing so …..*shrugs* .

I agree with previous commenters, Lisa - the outfit looks great with and without the topper, and I have no qualms re the hi/lo mixing (and you've done it beautifully).

I keep saying I'm not shopping for this summer, but these shorts and your previous post about some Joe Fresh chinos got me thinking about taking a browse on my next grocery shop.

Love this outfit, Lisa! I think the tank is interesting and sophisticated and looks great on you. (You are your own worst critic!) And the jacket is super fab with it. Love the "formal" black with the more casual olive shorts. A winning combo!

What a terrific outfit! Proportions are so tricky to get right in a combo like this and you nailed it!

I like this look alot. I am going to try a blazer and shorts for my next evening outing, I never have before. It is too hot here for daytime wear. Great inspiration. YLF!

This is great. I never would have thought to pair a blazer with shorts, personally, but I think it works brilliantly. Even without the blazer. I especially like the slides with it.

I think that tank looks great as a stand alone piece! I'd love to see it with some white shorts or light-colored shorts or bottoms.

You can SO wear this combination. Perfect. And I like the choice of the slides because it supports the dressing -down vibe.

Bj1111 - I wear an 8 shoe , sometimes 8.5 in a boot , and 39 is my size in Fly London. Widths can vary a bit by style- not super consistent .

I actually love a blazer and shorts look because the shorts tone down the dressiness of the blazer and somehow look more modern and unexpected to my eye than full length pants. What a great way to wear your smythe - I should try the same! Love how you mixed the black with your olive to soften it, while keeping a bit of edge.

For the record, I like the top by itself too. I think a boxy top with shorts is a great current silhouette and your legline adds the structure you need. It's one of my favourite summer silhouettes!

As Janet said, I too would never have thought to pair shorts with blazer...but it's great. I'm going to have to see if I can make that work for me. Really interesting.
