Inspired by Grace Kelly #2 - YouLookFab Forum

Hi all

I wore my white Grace Kelly top yesterday to a Christmas lunch with some friends.

I felt inspired to wear it with lashings of gold, after having talked about GK’s beautiful gold dress in To Catch a Thief.

My gold skirt is new. It is a linen blend in the basque waist style that I like. And asymmetrical! I love asymmetrical skirts and they are quite hard to find now. It was cream. But I dyed it a greenish gold. My sandals have also been treated with gold polish.

The gold necklace is actually a bracelet. My version of pearls. It has a nice patina and spiky texture and leans more into the “dirty” gold colours of the skirt.

My other key accessories were fake tan and bronzer

This is spectacular and so creative! Wow! The thought you put into each outfit is just extraordinary. I love the new gold skirt -- it is festive and (ahem) a bit more wearable than Grace's gold dress. And the "necklace" is brilliant! So if I understand correctly, you attached the bracelet to a gold circlet and thereby filled the space in the neckline of the top (which looks fab on you, by the way). SO clever. And how did you know it would work?

I love love love this outfit especially for its festive yet wearable appeal. You could go almost anywhere in this. It's dressy and yet not so over the top that you would feel too self-conscious in a place where people are more casually dressed. At the same time, it would fit right in with those dressed more formally.

Awww, thanks everyone. You are all so nice. Apologies for not responding individually, I’ve got a busy day today preparing for Xmas Day.

Angie, the K2K is a great Xmas present But if I’m going to join Team White I’m going to need a lot more bronzer. I’d better drop some hints to Santa.

Re: the bracelet as necklace. I got the idea from Adina at Blue Collar Red Lipstick. She makes her own jewellery and one of the things she does is repurpose bracelets as necklaces. That started me playing around with my bracelets to see if they could be adapted as necklaces. Fortunately with this one, it was just a matter of using the bracelet clasp to clip it onto an old circlet necklace that I already had. Even the golds matched. I can unclip it from the necklace and still use it as a bracelet. I do think it kind of makes the outfit here. I love finding new ways to wear things.

And the comments about the Grecian vibe to the outfit (not planned by me) are intriguing. They made me think about GK’s beautiful (ombré!) dress in To Catch a Thief. One of my all time favourites. It also has a Grecian vibe. All that length, volume and drape. Now I’m wondering if “Grecian” is a theme I could play with a bit this summer. Wheels turning…

Gorgeous! I'm amazed by the bracelet-as-breastplate-necklace hack. I too am a big fan of BCRL but mostly I just admire so good job putting some of those ideas into practice!

I confess I would not immediately guess that Grace Kelly would be an inspiration for your moody, boho style. It just goes to show what a good eye you have, and how talented you are at making an idea your own.
