Impromptu Boden order for the win. ETA: Photos of shorter length added.

After meeting LaPedestrienne last week, and noticing how great the Phoebe dress looked on her, I was inspired to take a gamble and give it a try. I seriously think the shopping gods are on my side... there was very very limited selection left, but what WAS left was the only one I was really interested in... the bees... and they still had what was probably my size (a guess as I think I could have also taken the Eleanor a size smaller but have no idea). Although I did need to get a long.

The fit is PERFECT. How does this happen? I do wonder if it's too long though - does this look frumpy? I'm sure I could get it hemmed if YLF wisdom thinks it should be. I kinda like the idea of a dress that is a bit longer, as long as it looks ok. I have a multitude of shoes I can wear with it... Ecco sneakers in white, navy, and possibly citron, navy wedges, navy and white sandals... not worried about that at all. Just didn't want to bother hauling them all out, these are what I wore to work today.

I had put this sweater in my basket ages ago, and was waiting until I found something else to get me free shipping. Also perfect. No styling, it's too hot!

Thoughts on the dress length?

ETA Photos 4-7, I pinned the skirt to a shorter length. Looking at them, I think it could go even shorter. Maybe ??? So now what... those of you that voted leave it long, do you still vote leave it long?

And do you like the cardigan in #5 with it? I thought this would be a workhorse when I got it last summer, but I've really struggled to wear it.

tGreat dress with a great print!:-) Midi length is OK but I wonder why on the model looks so short? The right lengtth depends on the shoes and so many other factors andf prefferences- I would shorten for myself just under the kneecap but then would take in the side seams a little, too.

Sounds like there is enough love/like for the length, that I can at least wear it for the rest of the year as is. I think I will consider shortening it for next summer. And lyn67, having the side seams taken in at the same time is a great idea. As an IT, I expected it to be loser in the hips, which it is. If the fabric relaxes, it'll be fine, but it does seem a bit wide on me now. I suspect the model is 6'tall wearing a regular length.

Im thinking taking in the sides too if you like the length, but it definitely looks a lot shorter on the model.

I say hem. I have two Phoebes I loved the blue one so much that I wanted the pink, but by the time I ordered it they only had the long length left in my size. I thought I’d wear it that way as a midi but the regular length was much more flattering so I hemmed it to a couple inches below the knee, similar to where the blue hits the model’s leg in this pic.

Elizabeth P, I meant to also say that the sweater you ordered has been in my cart for 2 weeks! How did you find the fit, tts or did it run large? It looks fantastic on you!

KMM, thanks for that input on the dress. The voice of experience! I think I'd prefer it shorter as well, to be honest.

I would say the sweater runs on the large side of tts, if that makes any sense. In North American sizing, I run between a M and a L, depending on brand and cut. This is a M. It has lovely drape, and is obviously meant to be a bit oversized. So err on the smaller of two sizes, or size down if you prefer a more fitted fit.

Is it cotton? If so, it might shrink a bit if you put it in the dryer. I bought a Boden t-shirt dress last summer and purposely shrunk it one inch in the dryer.

I bought the Penny in long but like the Phoebe below the knee. Just because it feels a bit more summery. But either way you can’t lose. Love this colour on you and the sweater is fantastic!

We’re dress twins! (So, I might be a bit biased.) It looks great on you! And, I like the longer length. I have found the fabric to be quite stretchy, so I throw mine in the drier every 3-4 washes. Mine hits me just below the knee, which seems to work well- I’m 5’6”.

Question for those that have this dress, and have put it in the dryer... did it shrink? Or did the dryer just return it to its natural state? I'd normally just hang dry something like this. I think I will hem it, I pinned it up last night and do think the shorter length suits the summery style better. And suits my legs better, not crazy about hems hitting the wide part of my calves. So wonder if I should wait and wear/wash/dry before I do. Which means I can wear it right away If it's likely to shrink in width, I won't try to dry it to shrink for length. That would be bad.

I hadn’t responded to the first post, but now that you’ve pinned it up, I vote to go even a little shorter, so the hem hits at that narrow spot just below your knees.

Frankly the sweater with this dress doesn’t speak to me. Except it says, good enough for a chilly office. Maybe it’s meant to pair with a specific top into a set outfit, instead of being that desired mix and match miracle topper?

Initially I thought it was just fine at the longer length, but with your new photos I vote shorten.
And I adore those Citron shoes - I tried looking for them when I saw you in them recently, but didn’t have any luck.
