Chiming back in to say I'm with Torontogirl: "I have yet to see anyone who I feel looks terrible in black, esp. with a bit of polished makeup, which, let's face it, makes most of us look much better regardless of what color we are wearing. It may not be the absolute best color on everyone, but it has many other virtues that I feel compensate for this fact". Hear hear. Black isn't terrible on most people, and meanwhile, it is unbelievably versatile. It can be elegant or edgy, sophisticated or grungy. It can project power and authority. It is one of the most important colours (or non-colours, for the sticklers!) in fashion. Even those who don't like black can't argue that it has always been, and will always be, a staple colour for clothing manufacturers.
I'm all for a range of options. I wish we lived in a world where we could find navy and dark brown when we want it (and, as a petite, I understand all too well how options are especially limited for those outside the "regular" size range!). But telling people they only think they can wear black (but really they can't) doesn't seem fair to me.
ETA laughing with La Pedestrienne: "For displaying dog hair!" Too true!
