I have been eyeing this pattern for probably years for it's challenge:

and I'm going to be looking for a hero project that packs well for some summer travel. But I am NOT spending the hours/years on this project if I won't wear it. I don't need another heirloom in a drawer.

The suggested yarn is black overdyed with a range of colors, probably go for something like this: http://www.bluemoonfiberarts.c.....19_158_163 which delights my love of purple.

In my rich fantasy life, I would wear it over a sheath dress, violet or olive. To dinner and then a jazz concert. In a previous life, this was a regular, but now, I might get to do once a year. Knitting CPW is painful at that rate.

How else could it be styled and not look frumpy? Could I pin it over a white blouse and jeans and booties? Somehow, I don't think I want to treat it as an oversized scarf looped around my neck. I enjoy a bit of theatricality or high/low contrast since I get out of the gear so rarely these days. I think the devastating thinness of the author/model in all her shawls is what is throwing me off. I imagine myself wearing it her way and instant frump. That would not maximize knitting happiness, which is mainly the point. Yes or No to: is a wool shawl intrinsically frumpy?
