Shopping with Angie is magical. Her very warm and sparkly personality shines through on YLF, and it's a treat to be with her in person. Shopping, chatting, walking around the city. As for her stylist services, she immediately makes you feel very comfortable and well taken care of. She whizzes through the racks, with clear purpose and knowledge of a seasoned and experienced pro, and ALWAYS with a sense of fun. It’s very high energy, but never tiring or overwhelming. When we combed through H&M and other stores, Angie frequently stopped to point out a very fun or wacky item that made both of us smile, and she modeled some of them, too. Furthermore, Angie doesn’t impose her own style on you, she guides and instructs about fit, fabric, etc, but leaves all the final decisions to you.
I didn’t have a very big goal in mind when I asked Angie to help me with clothes. My main question was about jackets and blazers. I perceived it the most difficult fitting issue: short torso, small chest, long arms, frequently feeling constricted in the chest area in spite of small measurements. So petites are normally out for me. I’ve always struggled with fitting jackets and blazers, frequently ending up with bigger sizes, or getting gun shy entirely. I was also specifically interested in military styling.
Our first and longest stop was H&M. We don’t have one in Oregon (coming soon they say!), so it was a novelty. And Angie thinks Euro sizing is a good fit for me.
Unfortunately I failed to bring my small camera I’m sorry guys! I had to forget something.
At H&M we put on hold the following. A knee length navy military coat with zippers (it also comes in grey, I believe). A turquoise mid-length wool coat with one long middle zipper, belted, with a flared skirt (not military styling, but SUPER FAB). A little bit retro in style and plain adorable. A bright blue double breasted (with blue buttons!) hip length cotton jacket, military styling, high collar. A hazy purple utilitarian cotton jacket, very soft, with fab narrow sleeves and button detailing.
Guys, it was very hard to pick just a few, and I think the turquoise coat will stay in my mind for a while. But I also couldn’t commit to it entirely because we don’t have an H&M in our state and it wasn’t a top wardrobe priority. I mentally reviewed what I already own and what I need versus what I want. I also don’t crave lots of variety.
Later at Nordies I told Angie I was undecided about a purple Miss Sixty military pea coat, both of us tried it on on the spot, and I was sold : ) (I got the jacket at NAS, but vacillated about returning it).
Nordies Rack was next (several blocks down towards the waterfront). We found an adorable short rose colored jacket with retro styling, but I decided to leave it. In the meantime, Angie instructed me about button placements, color and sleeve length. Both of us tried on a SUPER FAB long leather jacket from Soia and Kyo. Angie tried the black, I tried the purple. Both of us looked most excellent! The leather was super soft and the design and fit were plain awesome. I think it was similar to this http://www.bluefly.com/Soia-&#.....erralID=NA
At Nordies we stopped at the shoe department : ) Angie quickly found multiple styles of booties for me try and I sat down to concentrate, hehee. In addition to everything we tried on, the salesman got creative and brought us these sparkly Jimmy Choos (this style I think http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/31.....6721-0-0-1) Angie’s quiet comment was “Why on earth?”
In the end, I went home with Boutique 9 Rusty in Taupe http://youlookfab.com/store/20.....nkle-boot/ and Miss Sixty Iggy in black leather http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/31.....n=category
I am very very taken with the Rustys. Angie read my mind perfectly and I would never have found them on my own. I’ve been craving this style for so long.
The Iggys on the other hand are going to go back. I adore the heel, absolutely adore it! It's super soft, light and the overall shape is very cute. Plus my shoe wardrobe sorely needs a bootie like this. Hehee, I also can’t resist the name because it reminds me of crazy Iggy Pop. Anyway, I’ve tried them out at home and they are not working for my feet. I think it’s because the heel is placed a little far towards the center of the foot and my body doesn’t appreciate it.
Alright here’s my modest loot.
1-3 H&M. A cropped puffed sleeve black jacket, knit, slightly shiny fabric, with adorable detailing. Look at the back fit, you guys! It almost never happens to me. It fills a big hole in my wardrobe and I adore it. I will wear it dressed up and dressed down, with skirts and jeans. So useful. You guys, I messed up the camera settings on this one, so sorry. At least you can sort of see the outline and scrunched sleeves, heh.
4-5 Two in One: My Sgt Pepper jacket from Halogen & Boutique 9 Rusty short boot from Nordies. Angie suggested the plum jacket over the teal. The wrinkles need to be steamed here.
What can I say about the boots. I love them to pieces! I can’t wait to wear them with leggings, jeggings and skinnies. If I remember correctly, Angie suggested I can also wear them with straight legs loosely tucked in like that. I rather like the volume, too. Please correct me if I’m wrong, Angie.
Angie, thank you so very much! It was an incredible treat spending time with you!
