Since my new office is right in the middle of Seattle's main shopping area (I'm surrounded by Macy's, All Saints, J.Crew and Nordie's), my lunch break is going to become a time of temptation. I'm so glad I made a budget for myself!

Two of the types of items I'm looking for this year are blouses and pencil skirts.

I chose the gray Halogen seamed pencil skirt because it seemed more interesting than the black one. In retrospect, I think the black one would be more useful, since it would go with more of my wardrobe items. This particular gray is a tricky shade. It had a hint of warmth to it...it's a warm, not a cool gray. Does that make sense? So, it doesn't actually go with a lot of the gray items in my closet.

I can see why these halogen skirts are so popular. The shell fabric has a beautiful hand and is nice and thick.

I do think it goes with the citron blouse. It probably will go with the magenta sweater I have on order from Banana Republic.

Is it a keeper?

How about the blouse? Doe is look ok on me?

P.S. How do you keep your skinny belts from slipping and sliding around all day? If I make it tighter, I will sit right at the edge of my skirt and blouse. Is that ok?

Whoa. I love the citron blouse on you, Amy! That color looks amazing on you. It really brings out your hair and skin. I hope you end up keeping that one. I think I really like you in bright colors. : )

I have the same skirt in the same color. It is tricky to pair different shades of grey bt it goes well with a lot of other colors - like your pink and citron blouses. I think you wear citron beautifully - which is not an easy thing to do.
I don't wear skinny belt with this skirt at all unless I wear it above the untucked top. As this skirt does not have a waistband and sits a a bit below the waist on me I find it hard to wear with belts...

Thanks, Ana. I really love bright colors and when I do artsy stuff, I always go for the super saturated, rich tones. My closet, however is full of black, gray and navy. So sad

Both the citron blouse and the Halogen skirt are beautiful on you. As for the skinny belt slipping problem, I have no clue! I'll be interested in hearing what others say.

P.S. It is indeed a good thing you set a budget - that is some dangerous territory you're in!

The citron is beautiful on you. I think the skinny belt solution involves sewing some invisible belt loops onto the skirt, like this: http://mirelap.wordpress.com/2.....elt-loops/

Oh, re: skinny belt slipping problem--get some double-sided fashion tape. I sometimes tape belts to skirts with no belt loops. I like the Matchsticks brand because they're easy to slip into a bag.

Here are the ways I've styled my "slate" pencil skirt. I wear it with neutrals as well as brights. I think it looks great on you, and I love it with the citron blouse. It should look fab with magenta, too -- I'll have to give that a try myself! I vote "keep!"

Amy, you look fab in that blouse. Wowza! And I am partial to the skirt, as I have it, too. I wear it a lot, with black/white/magenta/blue. I've actually found it to be quite versatile.

I would think the slate skirt will end up quite versatile - citron, pink, navy, white, red, orange, etc. . .

Double Keep! Both items look fab on you, and I love the mix of grey with citron yellow. I think you will ge a lot of wear out of that grey skirt, it is a perfect neutral.

Definitely a keeper Amy:) I love it with the citron and I think the blouses look best tucked. The lavender/pink blouse is pretty but I think it is a little bland with the grey skirt. I think strong contrasting colors are going to look fabulous with the skirt. Do you need the belt??

I like both the skirt and the citron blouse. I also like how you've styled it with the skinny belt (good thing other people have some good suggestions for that problem).

And that skirt fits you perfectly. Definite keepers!
Why not try a more substantial belt? That one just kind of disappears with that outfit. A wider belt, maybe in an accent color, would give the outfit a little more oomph.

Amy, you look great in both items. The skirt looks like it almost leans toward a taupe. It would mix well with everything BUT the same tone of grey (but dark charcoal would look good with it, I bet). Did you try sizing down in the skirt? It might give you a bit more va-voom like Maryk has. Your complexion seems to come to life in the citron, lucky you!

How cool that you work in the middle of shopping central. Just think of all the trying on you could do and the education you could get while working there! Just hold on to your wallet!

I've been thinking about your temptation problem. You could leave your wallet locked up in your desk on your lunch break and go browse. That way if anything does catch your fancy, you'd have to put it on hold and go back and get it after work. I use this trick when I go to the mall, sometimes. The item is probably worth it if I'm willing to drive home and get my money and come back and get the item. ; )

AAAAAH, look at that citron blouse on you!! Super gorgeous. And the warm gray actually looks very pretty with the warm tones in your hair. I agree with Anna that it looks better with the citron than pink - mebbe this is a skirt for brights rather than soft colors.

As for the belt, I either only belt over an untucked top or only belt when there are belt loops. Angie's eye for filled belt loops works both ways for me... something about a belt on pants or skirts without loops looks off to me. Maybe this is just another poisoned eye I have, so feel free to ignore me.

ETA: I work down the street from Anne Fontaine, GAP, Saks, Armani, Missoni, and so many other cool stores! I simply do. not. shop. on my lunch breaks as a rule. It helps that I am Team Online and like to launch a hefty comparison campaign before I settle on a purchase. But yeah, I just walk straight to my lunch destination and straight back to my desk, no browsing allowed.

Amy, that citron blouse is amazing on you....not all of us can wear that color! Can't help much with the belting issue (as a nonbelter myself), but you do look fab with the belt and blouse tucked in. Photos #5-6 are amazing.

Fantastic skirt! It looks like it was made for you. If you wear a normal, not petite size, you are going to have a lot of options for colors. I love my halogen seamed skirts. The colors and runs in petites are very limited so I have to jump on them when they become available.

Amy, it's already been said but you look stunning in that citron blouse! And I love the Halogen skirt, too. It will definitely work with magenta. What you said about its being a warmer grey made sense to me; that's how it looks in your pics, although in MaryK's it looks a bit cooler or bluer (at least on my monitor). It's amazing how different greys can be and how sometimes they fail to harmonize. But this skirt will work brilliantly with other neutrals, including...wait for it....ANIMAL PRINT.
