This morning I pulled every single pair of shoes I own out of the closet (and the boots out of my out-of-season storage) to get a good look at exactly what I have. Worked up a little sweat too!
I felt compelled to do this because I've been evaluating our closet needs for our upcoming closet overhaul, and I was kinda afraid of what I would find.
Surprisingly enough, I don't own as many shoes as I thought I did. I was positive I had 100+ but it's actually only 80-something. I know, that's still a LOT of shoes, but it made me feel better somehow to know I'm not as out of control as I thought I was. Don't worry, I'm not taking this as a license to go shoe-shopping (although I may have used my Anthro birthday month discount to try a cute pair of flats).
Here's the cool thing. Dragging every bit of footwear i own out into the harsh light of day is making it much more easy to see what I love to wear, as contrasted with what is merely adequate. I've already set aside a half dozen pairs that I'm going to sell, and I'm pretty sure another half dozen will join those before I put my shoes away.
Looking at everything out this way, I'm able to identify my patterns as far as what colors and styles I find easier to work with (i.e., black and blue are no-brainers, red and tan are more problematic).
OK, now on to the evaluating and probable thinning of the collection! I may be posting some K/Ts today, be warned!
Has anyone else with a large collection done this? I'd love to know how it went for you.
