How would you wear this skirt? (pic added)

This skirt really intrigues me - I'm not saying I'm buying it (although I might try it on). I could see it with rugged boots and a cropped or drapey sweater for casual or with knee high heeled boots, tucked in silky top and cropped blazer or leather jacket for work.

How would you wear this skirt?

ETA: Or with pointy toe ankle strap pumps, sequin or silk top and gorgeous clutch for evening out.

And obviously for work, it would have to be worn with opaque tights since the one side is a bit short for work.

My first thought was stompy booties and a leather jacket.

Little Zap has something similar. She wears it with combat boots and oversized sweaters. A bit too much for an office setting lol.
You could wear it with dark hose and booties and a turtleneck. Simple is better, since you have so much action with the draping et al.

I don't think it's too young, Shannon. Not necessarily. I can see our Deborah in something like this. It all depends on how you wear it. But yeah, in an office it might be tricky. The other issue for someone short would be the proportions. Would the length be right on the long side.

Deborah would rock this! She has draped clothes down to a fine art.

But the shortness of the skirt, and the way it drapes, I think it would take a lot to make it office appropriate. You could do it.

I am thinking stompy boots, a black knit turtleneck, and a leather jacket.
And dark hose. Maybe patterned.

Ines de Fressange wore a gown at Cannes a few years ago with a skirt much like this. She wore with flat Roger Vivier sandals and a clutch, simple hair and "attitude". At 50+ she looked so fab! Sooo...perhaps this skirt could be worn with a tank or simple top and sandals for a dressier occasion.

I find it an interesting piece because it could be styled lots of different ways and for at least 3 seasons and all levels of "dressiness". Why don't you give it a whirl?

Shannon, I have a very similar skirt and I find I prefer it for summer wear with bare legs showing. I'm only just getting used to it and this is how I styled it the other day. In this styling I have actually draped the skirt layer up and into the waist band to create "drape" at the front.

.pic three is the skirt as is. I'm sorry it's not a great pic but this was a cooler weather styling, which I just didn't love.

I do love it with bare legs and booties.

Not sure if any of this helps:). It's actually a challenging skirt to wear with the distinct difference in lengths. I have found getting the proportions right a little more challenging than usual.

That IS the very same skirt that Una tried!
It's such an interesting skirt, but I don't think it would be work appropriate, and honestly I think it would be pretty hard to wear.

My first thought was tank top and gladiator sandals (a nice tame look). My second thought was a fuzzy, fringey sweater. My third thought was OTK boots. My fourth, bolero jacket...

This is a style that seems great on a mannequin, but is far more difficult to work IRL. It goes overall with Deborah's style, but I've never seen someone with her style aesthetic IRL because it is rare. A piece like this works with her because it truly goes with her wardrobe, but it is much harder to work in when it isn't your normal look. And it would be very difficult for most people to make it office appropriate.

But maybe it is my own bias speaking. I love the look of something like this, but it is the sort of piece I am enamoured with, buy and then it ends up sitting unworn in my closet until I shamefully purge it a year or two later because I could just never make it work.

Deborah - thank you so much for chiming in and providing visual aids! I think you look smashing in that skirt but I do understand that the styling and proportions are more complicated than with a more traditional pencil skirt.

Diana & Thistle - stompy boots and leather jacket (like my Doc Marcies and the Spiegel?)...could work for arty evening out, date night, etc.

Suz - yeah, that long piece could end up being a "floor sweeper" on short legged me - lol!

Una - love the twisty Alexander Wang skirt you got! Have you/would you wear it to work?

Mia - love the styling idea of a simple tank and dressy sandals for a summer evening out, which coincides with Deborah's comments that she finds her drapey skirt easier to wear in the warmer weather.

I'm seeing a chunky, cropped and textured sweater, Shannon, or a tucked or belted flowy top. Changing the footwear, according to the top, gives this amazing skirt lots of versatility. Plus, it looks like it might feel really comfortable, too.

Can I ask a question? I can see the skirt not being work appropriate with bare legs, as per the model (although I suspect the short portion of the skirt would be longer on me that on the model). But why wouldn't it be work appropriate with black opaque tights? It really wouldn't be showing any skin at all. Am I missing something? Just curious.

You know what? I had a tunic that had this kind of hem....only shorter. Remember? And while I adored the colour and the idea of the thing, I found it super hard to wear. My best styling was with a skirt underneath it. Which was sort of weird, maybe, but seemed to work at the time.

Shannon, I'm fascinated by what's going on with you style-wise. You were one of the first YLF-veteran's I "stalked" (reading through some previous posts; you remind me a lot of someone I knew in Oslo) and I got one impression of your style. That perception of you continued with WIWs you posted, say, a month ago. (Black watch pants, cobalt leather puffer, apricot or what was the color? leather jacket that you sent back, and so on.)

Now I'm reading a very different direction from you, which is reminding me of a lot of important things including that personal style isn't static.

Shannon I think it would be more than appropriate for work with opaque tights. And if you wanted more coverage you could always wear a light weight legging instead of tights.

The skirt will probably be longer on you as you suggest, I am guessing it may come to your knee which again makes it more 'appropriate. I think it is worth trying:) I see it with dark pieces as I feel that is the vibe of the look. Dark topper and leather jacket for example. It's a piece that cries out for slightly avant garde styling and going classic with it, for example, could almost fumpify it:)

You wont know until you try. It will be important to see how it is comfort wise. Sometimes with these types of garments, they can be fiddly and you can feel like you are always adjusting them.

Amy k I think that's the first thing that came to my head! What's happening to Shannon's style? Lol! I love that skirt! Very artsy very sexy! Traditional office wear is never this artsy which is why probably everyone thinks it isn't office appropriate in a regular setting. If you work in the media or entertainment or art industry it should be perfectly fine.

I can see it with bare legs, breezy cropped tank and loads of neck candy with rugged ankle boots. I am not sure how a more conservative style can be achieved with this. May be you could ask Angie?

I think black tights and black booties would make this appropriate for work. I don't know what top to try with it (I'm terrible at coordinating tops and bottoms), but whatever top you choose, I think it should be somewhat simple so as not to distract from the draping.

My main concern is the length. From reading the specs, I think it might be a bit too long on the long side. Oh, the joys of being below average in height! (You are not tall, if I remember correctly...)

Boots. That is all. Well, maybe not quite all...

I see this being fabulous with opaque black tights and very fitted black boots. That way the draping and the silhouette is the focus, without any added contrast or fussiness. It would also be a lot more modest that way. And I'm totally in love with this, by the way. It's amazingly cool.
