How to wear leather leggings? Wardrobe experiments...

I didn't actually wear this outfit anywhere. I would say its still a bit too early or warm out. But I wanted to get an idea of how I can get some wear out of these Club Monaco (faux) leather panelled leggings. So I paired them here with my mint mesh sweater and a blazer. Also how do they work with the booties? That was my main problem last winter. I felt like I had no suitable footwear to wear with these. Any other suggestions on how I can style them? Hopefully the pics aren't too bad, I know they don't show as leather too well.

Agree that the pictures just don't show the leather well enough to get the full effect but from what I can see you look fab!

I think that with the booties it's too much solid black - maybe try a pair of flats so there's some skin shown to break up the black, or a pair of taller boots could work as well. As for tops, I'd say experiment! Try sweaters, graphic tees, etc because you never know what will end up looking awesome.

Another idea is to break up all the leather with a texture like black suede boots/booties rather than regular leather, but from what we see, I think your outfit works.

Ok! I have just picked myself up of the floor;) I cannnot tell you how great this looks. I personally think you have nailed this look. The boots are great. If it is the hint of skin that can be seen, I quite like this. It adds to the 'edge' of the look. Anna's example are so cool. You could also try a tunic over the leggings, a drapey silky blouse, lots of options I think. Also in terms of boots, a mid calf boot would work amazingly as well.

This looks great. I am looking for some faux leather leggings that are good quality, but not too expensive. Where can I look online? Looks great here with the booties, I have some great Dkode ones that I am dying to pair with this kind of outfit. Thanks for posting!

I agree, I think you nailed it Raisin. Anna's pics are great inspiration too and as others have suggested, drapey knits, graphic tees, flowy blouses. Also wedge sneeks and flats would be fab.

I would switch the shoes to either studded flats or a suede pumps. you can also change the top to a longer shirt I'm picturing like an off the shoulder cream colored sweater or silk.

I am a HUGE fan of this look! You look great! I wear my leather (faux) leggings in a similar way!

Maybe (and really, this is just a maybe because I love your look!) is try a top that is a bit longer underneather your blazer. Only because it would help break up the black and slim your legs. If you do go longer though, it should be fitted as to not add volume (that you obviously don't have)!

I got a pair of these at NAS. They are my "date night" pants. So far I have only worn them with cage sandals that show a bit of toe, and an oversized top. I will probably wear them with my black booties in winter.

Haven't read the other responses, but I'm thinking some pointy toe pumps or ankle strap pumps would look sleek. Also, have you tried these with a denim jacket? Leather jacket? Bomber jacket? The toppers would change out the look quite a bit. Finally, what about wearing them with a tan trench.

Thanks for all the solutions! I have a lot of ideas to try! I like the idea of wearing them with flats, since flats are my main shoe option. But once it gets cold, that will be out, so I think these are my only shoes that will work. I don't know how they'd look with boots, but I guess I could try.

I agree that a big sweater or tunic will probably work pretty well. And I'm also going to try different toppers, like my leather jacket...maybe it will be too much leather, but then again, maybe my dove grey one would be ok?

Oh my! This is so awesome I almost fainted! Okay, so it appears that you have achieved perfection with this. Alternate ways to style might include the ankle strap pumps Denise mentioned, and the flowy silk blouse that someone else brilliant thought of. I agree that ballet (or slipper) flats work too, they would tone down the leather of the pants for daytime. You look fab, girl!

I don't have your fantastic legs so personally I always wear my leggings with tunic style tops, but that can vary from longish shaped tees and silk tunics in the summer to knits and jackets in the winter.
I also struggled with what footwear to wear with leggings until I discovered black flat bottomed booties with a hidden wedge (a bit like wedge converse sneakers). These make my leather leggings a bit more casual which suits my lifestyle and they are so comfortable that I wore mine this weekend for 7 hours straight while attending a trade show. I wear them this way at least once a week For evening I wear leggings with ankle boots to dress them up. Hope you enjoy yours as much as I do!
