or is that a stupid question and there is never too many shoes??

I ask this after my weekend shopping trip to try out my new lessons learned on YLF. I went to Ontario Mills (Outlet mall in Southern California) with my mom. As I went into every shoe store (naturally) I was met with the comment "don't you have enough shoes??"

Technically Yes, one only NEEDS a couple shoes. But shoes are not just a necessity they're an accessory. They can dress up or down any outfit and give the outfit a different vibe depending on simply what shoes are paired with it.

Here is where I stand. I have upwards of 60 pairs of shoes ranging from heels to flats to sandals to traditional pumps. Plus 7 pairs of boots. This weekend I invested in a new pair of pointy toed flats and this semi closed toed sandal:

Do I have too many shoes?? Is this a normal amount? In comparison my boyfriend has 3 pairs of shoes (only the bare necessities) How many shoes do you have??

A recent thread http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....s-do-u-own. I have about 35 if I recall, and that includes sneakers for work and all boots.
I have some shoes I only wear 2 or 3 times a year and I still don't consider them to constitute 'too many' or frivolous. Now, if you have several pair of the same thing (say 6 black pumps) I'd say you could probably get by with just one or two pair of said style.

I recently counted for the first time (the first time since I only had two pairs anyway) and was quite embarrassed to find I have 30, including flats, boots, sandals, pumps, and "walking around" shoes. I would like to work towards a smaller shoe wardrobe with items of higher quality.

A male colleague has two pairs, black dress shoes and athletic shoes. He does not even wear flipflops, even though it gets to 110 here. When he bought a new pair of dress shoes (to replace the old) he wore them for several days before I pointed out that he'd come away from the shoe store with mismatched shoes.

Heh. Look at my closet and tell me. (I've got to be somewhere near 100 if not over.)

My husband recently bought some land that he and his brother will be using in their next business venture, and he was telling me that he wants to build a ranch house on it so we'll have a nice place to stay when we go there. He mentioned that we would need a big closet, and that I'd have to buy some more shoes to keep there. LOL

I'm in the process of doing a closet cleanup/reorg so I actually counted my shoes this weekend. I had 52 pairs! I think that's normal but my DH and even some female friends disagree. That includes heels for work, flats, sandals and sneakers. I don't own any tall boots and have recently become attracted to them so maybe I should say 52+++

It's easy to accumulate a lot of shoes if you live in a place with distinct seasons, and within those seasons you wear things that require different shoe types. We have 4 seasons here and I think last time I counted I had about 12 pairs of shoes but I would say that's the minimum for me. I wouldn't want to cut it down more. I think having about 20 pairs would be my limit, otherwise there would be a lot that wouldn't get much wear.

Provided you can afford what you buy, there is no such thing as too many shoes! Sometimes special occasions call for special shoes, and fashions change slightly every season. That at least justifies 5 new pairs a year, right? And if you need enabling, I can justify shoes for almost any reason at all, much to my DH's shock and disbelief. Repeat after me: There is no such thing as too many shoes!

I have around 20 -25 pairs. I think It's entirely up to the individual, their budget and their tastes. Whether they like to constantly change styles with shoes or if they are happy with a couple of looks. It all makes the world go round eh?

Give or take 46 broken down like this : 16 sandals (includes beach and pool flip flops), 4 dress shoes (heel/pumps), 5 flat shoes, 6 winter boots, 9 runners. Not nearly as many as I thought and some are quite dated and will be reviewed when I switch items for the seasons.

Recovering right now from bunion surgery and looking forward to finally getting to wear cute shoes in a couple months. I just gave shopping as impossible after wore out my last pair of Keens.
2 pair athletic shoes (my gym requests indoor only pair)
5 pair "event shoes" all black which hurt my feet in various ways. Pick my poison. I kept trying, anyway. Newest are ballet flats that travel well.
1 pair Ed Hardys
2 pair cowboy boots I'm hoping to wear again, 1 dress black lizard, 1 for riding
1 pair waterproof shoes for ranch/garden work (about all I could wear lately)
1 pair Boggs for snow
2 pair hiking boots, hope I can get 1 pair to fit again
Keens sandals that didn't hurt

So 15 pair, of which maybe half are functional. Thats it. If I weren't a freelancer and living out in the wild west, I don't know what I would have done. But I probably won't buy more than a couple pairs to start, since I've never gotten into them much. There is one pair I have my eyes on at Zappos....no point ordering it...yet.

Not complaining-the recovery is going much better than expected. The surgical boot, however, has zero fab factor. In fact daydreaming about travel shoes is how I found YLF, so there's an added bonus to surgery already.

I don't think there is an answer! It always seems like there is another pair of shoes that I need. I think you are right on that shoes function much more like an accessory than like a necessary for most women. I swap them out all the time to change the vibe of an outfit.

How many is too many, though? Anytime that you have so many that you can't remember them to wear them. For example, I think I really probably have too many right now because I just remembered a pair of bright fuchsia wedges that I need to photograph for my photo inventory. (A new and challenging task for me.) I don't have them out with the main rotation right now. I can excuse myself for forgetting them this time because they really aren't seasonally appropriate right now. However, if I forgot them for the entire season, it would mean that I need to cull. Oh, and there are the nude wedges too.... Gotta go. Got photos to take!

Counting all my flats and summer sandals (I love flats and summer sandals), I am sure I have well over that amount. As long as you can afford it and aren't having to take out a second mortgage, it's all good.

Any pair you don't wear is a pair too many. Any that you wear = just the right amount. Pretty much the same as clothes, I think

I live in a 4 season climate and commute on public transit a few times a week.....so, I have going to work shoes, shoes I wear at work and shoes I wear around home (like 2 hr standing shoes), fancy black tie shoes, you get the picture.

Conservative estimate 100 pairs. If you wear them and have the storage room, there is no such thing as too many lol

I just counted. 40, which is slightly horrifying. 7 pairs of uniform /work shoes, 10 pairs of gear shoes, and 23 pairs of shoes for fashion/ actual clothes.

I immediately started thinking if I could purge any, and only came up with 1. I have at least 1 pair on my shopping list and I'd like to be open to a "unexpected delight" come NAS time.

I LOVE Clara T's answer. It is personal. I have around 30 give or take a couple. I no longer hang onto anything that I don't wear regularly or that hurt in anyway. Me and my bunions have done our time. I also live in a four season climate. My big challenge is that I am more attracted to Summer shoes than WInter ( though I love boots, I feel that I have enough) so I really need to have self control.

Those shoes are sooooooo cute btw.
