How many black skirts do you have?

I bought a pencil skirt (first in a looooong time) online yesterday and am awaiting it in the mail. And then, of course, just now I stumbled upon the perfect black wool flounce skirt! I already have a black casual cargo skirt, a tiered chiffon skirt, and a zipper bandage mini. If I buy the flounce, that will make 5(!) black skirts. Admittedly, the chiffon and bandage mini see the light of day twice a year maybe. Should I just chill out here or is 5 black skirts not really that crazy? How many do you have? Would you buy the flounce if you were me (pic2)? Nosy me wants to know
( I should admit now that I have 4 flounce/flare skirts too. )

You made me count. I also have five!...the Halogen seamed pencil skirt, a dressier KK pencil skirt, a black cotton A-line summer skirt, a long evening skirt, and a black travel skirt that takes up no room in a suitcase and doesn't wrinkle. The two pencil skirts seem to serve different purposes and one is knit and the other woven.
The skirts in photo 1 and 5 look much alike, but I can't see #1 very well. The flouncy one is diferent from the others. What would you wear with it?
Edit: oops, I forgot a black-on-black lace pencil skirt and my new black leather pencil skirt. That makes 7, but all very different. I could see you in a black leather skirt!

If you wear them all the time, I don't see any problem with duplicating. If it's going to be just another black mini like the other black mini's... well you see where this is going...

Rita, I totally agree! Like you I'm nowhere near the height of models, so my minis on me are 15" and 16" whereas the pencil skirt is 20" and the flounce 23 1/2". Honestly, the zipper mini will likely get sold if the pencil skirt works. It is shorter than I wanted.

I just counted 5. One casual crinkle cotton for summer that I sewed, another summery-er one with lace at the bottom, a linen blend one with a ruffle thing at the bottom (probably should have passed it by, but it was super-marked-down @ Nordstrom rack), a casual shorter skirt in cotton canvas that has shorts underneath, and the ponte pencil skirt I just got at this year's NAS. I can't remember if I have any winter black skirts - maybe a cord one?

I think the question is, do they all serve different purposes, and do they all actually get worn? I honestly probably don't need so many casual black skirts, because when I'm dressing down I tend to go for denim or fun colors instead of black.

I have two, one for business days and one linen for the summer. I see two sets of repeats here, 1 and 5 and 2 and 4 look similar to my eye.

I saw that, too, Lisa. I'm already thinking #5 should go. The one thing about 2 and 4 is that the materials are light airy chiffon vs wool for winter. So although I see a similar silhouette I think the weights are very different . . . but do I *need* them both? I don't know. I have one winter skirt - a dark brown moleskin flounce.

I have maybe 8? They are all different: one is ponte with a slight A-line shape, one is a tulip shape and a bit shorter, one is a solid black pencil in wool, one is a pinstripe black pencil in wool, one is a heavy cotton solid black pencil, etc.

I have five as well - of which I just thrifted two! A flounce skirt, a pencil skirt, a cargo skirt, and now the sunray skirt and a tulle skirt newly thrifted.

Oh, well there is that black pencil skirt that is part of my three piece black suit, but that is never worn unless I am in the suit.

One short, tight pencil skirt.
One midi straight shirt.
One chiffon midi A-line with beaded embellishment.

That's all I can think of at the moment. I think before they all got too big, my high number was maybe 8-10 black skirts!

I think that special occasion skirts don't count. And the other 2 seem different to me. I LOVE the wool, flounce !!!

When I worked, I probably had 4 or 5 black skirts : seasonal, different silhouettes, etc.
I only have 2 every day black skirts now, as a SAHM. One winter one summer. But I have about 5 every day black dresses. And then there is the navy.....

I think that if you will wear it and you are going to Tahoe, the wool flounce will be great !!!!

15...different shapes and fabrics:) Half are heavy for winter the other half are lighter weight for spring/summer.

Taylor, reading your reply sealed the deal lol! Seriously, though, I never thought too much about winter weight, summer fabric, etc clothing before this year. I remember the spring before last, really wanting to wear a light woven cotton brightly printed flare skirt but finding it didn't go with the blue sweater and knit sweater boots, even though the colors went together. I realize now that it was seasonally confused. That is to say, I really do need a winter weight skirt and this is 100% crepe wool. I may end up returning the pencil skirt, though. We'll see . . . the odds are 50/50 that the pencil will be too small in the waist anyway!

Mo, I have a similar flounce skirt in a heavy sort of polyester that works for all seasons... it really does depend on the fabric!

One lined knee-grazing straight black skirt. Even though I'm a skirt person I almost never wear it, but you're supposed to have one, so there it is!

I vote YES on the flounce skirt - it is different enough from your others (and gorgeous to boot) Black bottoms are my staples. I have 6 skirts but for different seasons (plus 4 dresses I layer under/over)
Linen Full Maxi, Ponte Pencil Skirt, Knee length pleated skirt, flounce skirt linen, flounce skirt silk, straight midi with pattern (but mostly black)

I think 3. A pencil skirt, a tiered skirt, and another nice pencil skirt that doesn't currently fit but I'm not ready to give up yet.

I really like #4. Why don't you wear it more often?

I'm loving all the responses! It is funny, black skirts are kind of like jeans . . . you don't realize how many you really have until you stop to add them up!
NK - I love that skirt, too but it's a little dressy for me and so that's why it hasn't gotten as much wear. Believe it or not, it's over 20 years old!! It is from Contempo Casuals for those old enough to remember shopping there. So it has faded in and out of favor over it's closet life After all this time, I started seeing skirts similar to it again last year. I think Aida recently bought one like it if I recall correctly.

Aw, shucks, Taylor - you're too kind! I suppose there is something to the thigh camouflaging properties of a skirt, though . . . and I am biggest at the hip/thigh.
