That's a favorite skirt shape for me, so of course I vote yes.

I one exactly one black skirt. Straight, ponte type knit, yoked,
pockets in front but set in from side seams. I wear it all year
round, even though it's lined. Very comfortable and the easiest
thing to throw on sometimes. I don't really wear it for "looks."

Yea! Finally, one of those 'how many do you have' questions where I don't have a shopaholic hoarder tally!

3 leather pencil skirts
1 regular pencil skirt
1 suede above the knee skirt
1 knit mini (with pockets!)
1 pinstriped mini
1 plain mini
1 sequined mini

I have yet to wear the sequined mini, but I'm really happy to own it. The flouncy wool skirt seems very 'you' - more so than the chiffon, so it might be worth having.

I only have one black skirt, it's a loft "scuba" pencil skirt from about a year ago.

Oh no! I forgot my black leather skirt too!! That makes two legit and one wackadoo black skirts.

I just got rid of a bunch - two black maxi skirts, a casual short skirt, one pencil skirt that was worn out - as part of my recent wave of closet purges.

I have 4, but 2 may be getting purged.

One is a mid-weight A-line
One is a pencil
both above the knee

The other two are minis, one wool, one crepe. I have to locate these two and see if I still like the fit. All four are dog show clothes so aren't part of my usual rotation. I love skirts and dresses but often they just don't fit my lifestyle.

I thought I had more, but I guess not. For plain black skirts, I have one skirt that is part of a suit, with a slight tulip flare at the back hem. And another maternity black skirt that has a ruffle at the bottom. It has an elastic waist but I think I can still wear it even if I'm not pregnant (I know, I know...) And another pencil skirt with waves on it, but I just bought it and I'm not sure if I'm keeping that one yet.

You look great in all of them, but if you want to purge, I vote keep #1 and #2 and ditch the rest. #2 is fab...I love flouncy skirts! Where did you get it?

I don't have one-- probably why I don't wear mine, all my skirts are busy colors or patterns.

Just one and never wear it. By the way, I just LOVE everything in #4!

Oh dear. I think I have many, many black skirts. Like 15, I think? These are the ones I can remember off the top of my head:

Jersey maxi length, a heavy knit pencil skirt, a semi-flouncy one with a kind of chiffon overlay that matches my suit jacket, a pleated one in a heavy woven fabric, an a-line one, a couple of pencil types with slightly different pin stripes, I think I still have a midi-length mermaid-esque one with hot pink pin stripes, a light cotton one with silver embroidery and little mirrors (sort of boho/Indian style), a close fitting ankle-length jersey with a long slit in the front, a stretchy flared one, an a-line made from an odd raincoat-like fabric with white contrast stitching, and a corduroy mini. And I have at least 5 dresses that are black or mostly black.

Did I mention that I wear jeans almost every day...?

At any rate I think it's totally acceptable to have two very similar skirts in rather different fabrics. If you have several flouncy skirts then it is clearly a style that you like and that works for you, so to me it makes total sense to have different versions for different occasions.

One black pencil skirt - I prefer dresses. But if you wear your black skirts regularly, why not get more?

I like all your skirts, particularly the ruffled chiffon one and the flounce one. It looks like the flounce one, if it's a sort of medium weight, would be great for pretty much three seasons, depending on shoes etc.

I have .... ONE black skirt (but I only have 5 skirts in total, and two of those are going to be donated ... ) - I wore it with boots when I did teaching practice at a school with a formal dress code, and I think I may have worn it to a funeral It doesn't take up much space, so I am hanging on to it.

But all your skirts are very different 'looks' so I think it's acceptable to have that many.

Only two. One is the seabed Halogen skirt and the other is a dressier chiffon evening skirt. They serve very different purposes.

I don't own any skirts!

Wow Alicat, I think you're the only gal I know who has dresses but no skirts! Any particular reason why?

I love the simplicity of dresses. Many of mine have a lot of color and pattern. Pop one on and I'm ready to go!

Skirts seem much more complicated to me. Plus there's the whole issue of keeping a top tucked in. Skirts are scary!

I wrote this (OMG) 6 years ago: Nine Black Skirts.

What's sort of scary is that I still have five of them, including the leather dirndl skirt, which I've been staring at recently now that I've found a seamstress who does alterations. I probably haven't worn it in 20 years.
