How do you use the forum "favorites" feature?

I am thinking about improvements to the "favorites" feature and I would love to hear your thoughts.

The favorites feature is the little heart in the topic list and on the topic itself. If you click the heart, it adds that topic to your list of favorites. Then you can see all of your favorites if you click the favorites button alongside "Latest" at the top of the forum front page.

If you currently use favorites, please tell me how and why you use it. Is it for things you like, or is it just to bookmark thinks, or is it to file things away to read later, or all or none of the above?

If you don't currently use favorites for some reason, I'd love to know about that too.

Finally, if you never thought about using it before reading this post, how would you want a favorites or bookmarking feature to work?

I use it in a few ways:
1 - to mark posts that I find especially helpful or want to read again.
2 - to mark outfits I might try to copy
3 - to mark posts that I want to follow up on replies to (so that I remember to check them again later).

I'd love to have categories of favorites, or be able to tag posts, and look them up by their tag.

I've never seen a heart icon, but I'm guessing that is because I'm usually on IE9 at work.

I have wondered if there is a place I can see all photos posted by a single user?

I've used it in the past to bookmark posts but admit it's been a while. AnnieMouse's suggestion (which has been brought up before) is one I also like.

I have never used the favorites feature. The heart is next to the photo icon (which indicates that the post contains a photo, correct?), so if I *had* thought about it, I would have thought the icon reflected post content like the icon next to it. Also, if I hover my mouse over the heart, no 'explanation' appears (e.g. the word "favorite"), so I never thought to try it out since I didn't know what it did. And yes, using a heart icon to represent "favorite" does make sense now that I know about it...
Even great design requires a little effort on the part of the user, so I wouldn't say that it is non-intuitive, just that I haven't used it.
This is a well-designed site that is easy to navigate, so thanks for the thoughts and efforts behind the interface.

I use it to "subscribe" to threads that I want to keep tabs on.

I use it to mark posts that have been important or helpful to me in some way...things I want to be able to refer back to whenever I want, so I don't lose them.

Oh...so something that would be really helpful would be a way to make categories. Like a look I love might be in a different category than a thoughtful discussion.

I use it as a bookmark. I would also love the ability to tag or otherwise sort my favorites.

ETA: looking at my favorites, I see that I haven't been using it much lately. I also see that my favorites tend to fall into these categories:

--the big threads that are collections of lots out outfits from many people (like the year in review threads where everyone posts their favorite outfits from the year, and the picture perfect challenge threads).

--advice and tutorials

--individual outfits I liked and want to copy

I use it for bookmarking and to keep track of threads I want to follow up. Usually I edit my favorites down to a handful to keep it tidy, when I'm done with a thread. A more advanced tagging system would be awesome.

I use it to mark posts where I was given great advice that I will want to be able to reference and use later. Most recently advice on what to take on a cruise or all the style descriptors others saw in my Pinterest boards. I just recently figured what is was for and love it!

To copy amiables' reply, I use it in a few ways:
1 - to mark posts that I find especially helpful or want to read again.
2 - to mark outfits I might try to copy

I don't use it for follow-up/tracking purposes. Usually I reply to those threads and just use the "mine" tab for seeing those in one place.

It would be nice to create your own categories somehow, so the bookmarked reference threads don't get mixed up with the "I want to copy this outfit someday" threads.

I have never used it. If I want to go back to a thread, I will search under the member's profile page. I use the member's profile page with log of threads all the time. That reminds me to go back to update my own profile. I wouldn't mind a richer experience here. Almost like a Facebook profile page. But I don't know if this interests other members. I can't remember if there's a link to a member's Pinterest (or other social media) sites?

I use favorites to bookmark posts I like so I can go back to them later. I also use it to flag posts I see and want to comment on, but don't have the time to do so right away. The forum moves so fast, sometimes it's hard to find a post.

I use it to bookmark threads I want to remember. Useful advice; outfits I want to copy or look at. But I usually forget to go back to it!

I use it to mark threads that I want to comment on later. I often read YLF while on the treadmill but can't type replies then.
I mark my own threads to locate them quickly as the pages can move swiftly sometimes.
I bookmark some threads that I want to use as inspiration or reference later.
This is a very useful tool and I'm thankful that you included it.

I use favorites to mark outfits that I find inspiring and also to mark threads I find insightful and interesting. Those threads are nice to follow because they're quite thought provoking and sometimes people will respond to them weeks and weeks later.

I haven't been using it but think I would like to mark certain posts that are "instructional" and so can be referred to again, instead of looking them up in the index. Organizing and how-to's.Angie's posts on what's new or trending.
How to wear certain items. I've just been looking them up again in the index--silly me.
Also posted outfits, or items I might look up for purchase.

I used to use it but don't anymore.

To follow threads I click on the gray boxes on the main page, or on the list of my posts. To find posts I look up a particular member's posts.

Sometimes I use the search function.

There is so much new content on ylf that I rarely look back at all.

I use to it bookmark posts that I may have found particularly interesting or contain information (i.e. links) that I will want to refer back to. I also sometimes bookmark posts containing outfits of particular interest, however most times now I just pin them or save them to my ipad:)
