I've been preparing for the upcoming fall/winter ahead of time for the first time EVER! Generally what I do is when a new season arrives, I head on down to the mall and pick up a few items to fill a hole or work with what I already have. So to do this part of the process so "early" is new to me. but I'm finding that with fall/winter being the dominant season around here (near Seattle) it really is a good investment of time. So anyway...after a long process of buying, trying and returning, I now have the workings of a decent MOTG wardrobe. Here is where I get into trouble...I'm having trouble putting it all together. I have all the PARTS but not sure what to do with it.

What I tend to do is in the morning, figure out the weather and go from there. Sometimes it works, most times it does not. I do stumble across some outfits that work and I tend to reach for those in a pinch. But I'm a creative person and I like to experiment and try new combinations. So I am asking the general question: What is the general process for putting together outfits? How much pre-planning is involved and what does that involve (pictures, notebooks, etc)? How many people just wing it (like me?) and how many people set out outfits a week in advance? Or somewhere in the middle?

I'm trying to figure out how to simplify the process without stunting my creative tendencies. I hate the feeling of looking into my closet and feeling like I have nothing to wear...
