How do you feel about sequins/embellishment?

Seems 5 years or so ago, everything had an embellishment. Then we collectively got over it. Now sweatshirts are sequined again and some other trendy tops are sporting embellishments.
Where do you stand on sequined tops? I am debating a purple rayon tee with sequin pocket. Passe or still a fun detail?

I think sequins are still okay but have noticed an abundance of ruffle details in my closet that feel very dated.

I like that the sequins are on the pocket. I think they're still in, but not so much on tank tops.

I like sequins and think they're still on trend. Im not so sure about sequins on this top, though. Whilst I love the colour, the position of the pocket has left me unsure.....Have you tried it on?

It's online - I buy 90% of my items this way - so, no, can't try it on. I don't have a large chest, though, so pockets don't usually concern me one way or the other
Mostly I think it would dress up or down pretty well. You know, with shorts and strappy sandals just as easily as tucked into my leather panel skirt with heels.

I just wondered if the allover sequin look on sweatshirts right now is different than this pocket detail. I'm sure I'm just over thinking the whole thing lol.

I am what my good girlfriend describes as "boob-a-licious" LOL so I am always cognisant of where embellishments fall on my chest. If you are not large chested then I say go for it. By looking at your posts, I thing the colour and fit would flatter you.:-)
Sequins all over scream Liberace to me so the pocket is just that little bit to add some interest.

I'm paranoid about the care and feeding of such embellishments, so I avoid. But I think this could look cute on you!

Well I loves me some sequined glam, so uhh I may or may not have added more than one sequined item to my wardrobe this season 0: ) I like the sequin pocked on this tee, it's subtle and low contrast; makes it hard to view as something out of touch. Plus I love this color on you! I think it's worth checking out.

I think this is worth checking out, but I would check the care instructions and your willingness to follow them. I like sequins, but they tend to be high maintenance. I also tend to be lazy about laundry.

I like the color and the style for you. I think you would have to try it in person to be sure, but I am not sure what shipping and returns would run if it didn't work.

I find sequins impractical as I tend to destroy things or wash them improperly.This is cute but I think a sparkly neckline would be more fun and could be layered more effectively.

The sequins on just one pocket seem like they might weigh the light weight tee down a bit on that side. I don't know. I'm not loving this myself Mo. The pocket looks more like just a square. I have a hard time with embellishments. I have a sequin tank that is actually very subtle and well made but I've yet to wear it.

In my age group (43) I feel like the sequins have to look sort of out of place - like the embellished sweatshirt, otherwise they look too Boca. I love them on others though and I kind of like how it's OK to wear glitter in the daytime. Liberating. I think that tee would look good, but yeah, it might give you a lopsided headlight effect.

I love sequins, and have many tops with them. I have some I can wash (delicate cycle inside out) and hang to dry. I'm not loving this particular placement of them on this particular shirt unless you feel you want to highlight your left pocket area in a spectacular way. I also agree with texstyle it may hang oddly on the tshirt.

I think sequins can be a fun, but my first thought about this tee is that the pocket certainly is dead-center on the left boob!

If the pocket were place a little higher I might like it.

Hee hee, I see many have boob issues with pockets on tops I might leave this alone for now, not for any of the mentioned issues, but because I realize it doesn't WOW me so much as fill a hole I have for a short sleeved purple top.

Good decision. The op shops are full of sequins. I think they pretty much look low budget and if they don't they are used to write horrible logos. I have a poison eye for sequins - did you pick that up?

I haven't weighed in, but I had a tee with an embellished pocket like this which I got in 2010; I wore it in 2011 and I think I still have it but use it as loungewear/sleepwear. Or I donated it, I'm not sure, I should dig around my drawer. The pockets actually had tiny studs, which gradually fell off and I liked the random placement better than the neat original design. It was very soft modal from Michael Stars.

So, my point is, the embellishment falls off in the wash, so you have to be ok with that. Second, this idea of an embellished single pocket on a tee might be a couple years old. You might be happier with a plain purple top.

Hm, I do like sequins, but I think a fully sequined front, like the tank Aida got, is less likely to go in and out of style so quickly. The full sequins can always be relegated to a "party" capsule when daytime sequins falls out of favor, but the pocket won't provide that same option.

I think this is a case of furtive pre-emptive hole plugging. Time to step away.Honestly I left behind a perfect mixed media DKNY purple top 2 months ago at Marshall's because I was still so fresh on my 12 for 12 and hadn't landed any of my long sought BF jeans yet.

I have been consistently anti-sequins and embellishment since I was a kid, so for me its very much a personal taste thing rather than an on trend thing.

It appears that you've already made a decision, but I would add that this top seems very "you" (at least based on the Mo I got to know before I went MIA for the past year!), and so I wouldn't worry too much about whether it will go out of style quickly. If you're trying out a new trend, then its longevity is more of a concern, but if the trend just so happens to line up with what you love to wear then you'll just keep on rocking it!

I just can't get my head around sequins... they seem so out of place on a daywear t-shirt.

Mo, I think you have to try this tee. It depends on your boobs. If they are larger, it may not be flattering, but it might be on someone who tends to be flat chested.

I have a question for all of you guys: what do you think of sequin on back pockets of jeans?

I bought a pair of Simon Chang boot leg (actually, almost wide legs) black jeans and it has sequin detailing on the back pockets, which attracts attention to the butt, which in my case is a good thing because my legs are short. But I bought these - on sale - in an "old lady"'s shop in Victoria (BC). Now I am afraid it makes me look like a Golden Girl. I am 44.

KD - yes the obvious question is the back pocket isn't it....mmmm... I think this might be more about what label the sequins say. Jeans being a more obvious display of the fickleness of branding than shirts. Also not associated so much with evening wear so therefore = day. Even so..yes could be a bit mumsy. (Im 52 by the way). I like sequins, but more as an all over the front thing, or a neckline embellishment. But that just goes along with my typical preferences; I'm generally anti-embellishment (being somewhat minimalist) but when I go for it, I like it to make more of an impact.

I love the idea of this colour for you, though, Malina.

I hope sequins are not passe! I have two tanks that I wore A LOT past summer, they washed beautifully and still look pretty good. Maybe I should post them and ask hmmmm. I like sequins

I love sequins and bling of any kind, I'm definitely a magpie. The color will look gorgeous on you but if aren't loving it then hold out for something you will love. Also have to say I don't care if sequins are passé, I love them and will be rocking them for a long time, lol.

It's funny, I had decided to pass on this and now I'm coming back around to it, even if only as a stop gap 'placeholder' until the perfect berry purple top comes around.
My other, long sleeved, berry top I wore bowling this week and it felt 'off'. The armpholes are too long, and the bust is a tad big so the weaving in front invariably lets my bra poke through, and it is on the snug, short side. So, I think I may purge it and get this sequin one for now.
(as an aside, I found I have lots of long sleeves and lots of tanks, but few short sleeved tops, so they are on my list this year)

I like sequins, but not on things that are *overly* casual. And i don't like chest pockets. So I don't like that shirt. :/
