If you vote “no”, please explain to help me improve.

I haven’t decided on white sandals yet, so am wearing my “new” Eccos. Plan A was to wear the shirt in finds with the suede jacket. When I couldn’t find it, Plan B was to wear the one with the lace front with the cardi in finds. I rooted around in the cellar some more (Christine, I am so jealous! ) but couldn’t find it either, so wound up as you see here. Success?

Jacket is Esprit outlet from the late 1990s, cotton Lauren blouse has been with me forever, but rarely worn. Pants were bought on close out Jan 2019, on the chance that I might someday be able to wear them.

I voted YES because this is an absolute KILLER success! Nice weather too.

I LOVE those pants, and how the palette pulls together. The white top picks up the white of the pattern. The red bag matches the red pants. The brown jacket complements the brown sandals. The eye can rest with the harmony, and be stimulated by the visual interest.

I also don't see why this outfitwould need improvement. Very cohesive in color and feel, amazing that you can pull that together from items bought far apart.

Sisi, “merry summer vibes” are me The Ecco sandals have been super comfortable since the day in March I bought them; just walked 3 miles in them and am ready for more.

Liesbeth, one thing a life ignoring styling brought me was that I’ve always refused anything that was uncomfortable or didn’t feel like “me”. If things from various eras work together, I guess that means I’m still the same old me I find playing in my closet more thought-provoking than shopping, and more fun when something finally works out.

PS for my next act, I’ll have to figure out jewelry that works with the blouse, so things aren’t so plain when I take off my jacket (which I didn’t do until I got home & my son took this picture).

Red is definitely your colour! Your eccos look like a pair of Clarks I used to own (before I made the switch from tan to a darker brown).

As for the top, I don't think you need too much jewellery with it because the lace already adds interest to the front & edges. Maybe some small earrings or a ring, if you like

PS - I confess I still don't know how to tie a braid at the back of my head like that (where it's 'integrated' instead of flopping about). I always told myself I would learn but, since embracing my natural curls, I've found I prefer to clip my hair up loosely rather than ruining the curl pattern. It suits you!

Zaeobi, sometimes my maximalism needs to take a seat and let the lace do its thing. Thanks for pointing that out. The funny thing about the French braid down the back is that I used to be able to do them on the sides, but since I learned how to do it this way, I can’t do those any more.

A fabulous outfit for all the reasons Angie said, plus, the fun pants seem like a style signature for you and you wear them exceptionally well. Repetition of colours/ elements makes for cohesion and your pleasure makes for a fantastic look!

Cat2, thanks for your comment. I always appreciate people playing along and making suggestions, particularly when they know my closet and have a particular item in mind. Unfortunately, I don’t know which sweater you mean. I have a long red cardi, a boxy cropped linen one, and the crocheted ivory Baja topper. Do you mean any of those? Running through them all in my mind, I also came across this one. It doesn’t work over the high-necked blouse, but might be an option on its own or over something with a scoop neck.

Suz, sunny skies are a pleasure indeed! I figured out on Chewy Spaghetti’s More X Less Y post that patterned pants are a thing for me, a thing I should do more of.

Nicely done! The pants are super fun, and I like how the details on the blouse pick up the frilly feel in the pattern of the pants. (The lace-hem blouse would have a similar effect.) The jacket creates a nice proportion, with a nice amount of the white blouse hem showing. Your hair braided is so pretty, and it goes nicely with this outfit, too.

Cat2, I’m giving myself a little dopeslap and pulling out that sweater now; pairing a pattern with the background color of the pattern is something I’ve been meaning to explore, but you sure had to lead me to this one by the nose. Thanks for not giving up.

LaPed, so funny—red and brown are such partners in my mind that I have a hard time thinking of other pairings for brown (other than berries, which are reds or closely related). I’ll have to look through your posts next time I’m trying to get out of a red & brown rut.

Cat2, I tried the cardi with this. The colors are indeed extremely similar—good eye! My goofball son made me laugh while taking pictures, but in the end I don’t think it works well because the pants have so much luster that the sweater just looks dull by comparison. Ordinarily, the poppy red cardi with its bright gold buttons is energetic itself, so I thought they might pair well, but that’s not what happened irl. It was worth the try though—thanks for suggesting it.

Another "yes" vote! These items make a happy combination.

I like the long red sweater with the pants, though I feel like the top could be replaced with a tee. The higher neck of the shirt looks like it is strangling you a bit.
