Holiday Outfit - YouLookFab Forum

It is premature to be planning my Holiday Outfit, but I thought I might start shopping for it anyway.

I bought these pants as part of what I called my Wedding Guest Capsule (i.e., special event capsule). I have worn them only once since purchase.

For that event, I coordinated them with a slightly off-white silk camisole, white pearls, silver cuff bracelet, and silver shoes. I experimented with a silver belt, but I didn't love it so I skipped the belt all together. I had a black purse with me, but didn't carry it once I arrived. No picture, but suffice it to say I was the most comfortable I have ever been at events like these.

I bought these for special events. I am guessing the next really special event will be the Holidays. What do you think about pairing these with a silver metallic camisole? I would still wear the white pearls and silver shoes. In my mind, it works well. I haven't experimented in person.

I have long admired metallic tee shirts and camisoles, but never owned one. Do they itch? Do I need to find a matching belt?

I bought a sleeveless blouse with metallic embroidery and sequins for the holidays last year. The metallic thread definitely itched me, so I ended up wearing a soft cami under. I also found it irritated my bare arms where they rubbed against my sides. A sweater or jacket solved that problem. Still not the most practical purchase, though. I'm sure there are more comfortable metallics out there... just be sure to think of those things when you try on.

I think for a winter holiday outfit wearing metallic is a lovely idea. I have two sweaters with metallic flecks - one is a bit scratchy. I also have had sequinned tops (slightly scratchy).... But I have had other tops in the past that have been fine.

Would a camisole be warm enough at the end of the year?

I think the pants are beautiful and they are classic so while they might only get two or three wears a year they will be fab every time!!

Sal -- You are right. I was thinking Winter Holiday in 90 degree heat. I failed to adjust for the change in weather. I love the idea of a light weight silver metallic top (maybe not a camisole though). Sadly, I won't be able to tolerate itchiness ....

I steer clear of metallics due to the itch factor. I like them, but am sensitive to fabrics. I'm guessing they won't all itch, but that many will. I usually wear short sleeves during the holidays, especially if I'm cooking, so a camisole isn't completely out of the realm of possibility. Perhaps with something that can go over and take off as needed?

Sterling, Have you seen any foil-printed metallics that appeal to you? Maybe they are all too casual, though...Or anything soft like charmeuse or hammered satin--will look really metallic in silver.

ETA: Oh wait...upon reflection...my suggestion sounds like it could go kinda tacky. But, it seemed good at the time. Maybe a sophisticated cut and subtle color could save it, but I dunno.

Gorgeous pants. I think a silver top would look fabulous. I had a metallic top once that was lined and it did not itch. I am very sensitive. I also had a sequin dress and it was fine. I use to live a different life!

Whether metallic fabric makes me itchy or not is entirely dependant on the fiber content. You also may not be as sensitive/picky/weird as I am. it doesn't take much for me to declare that something feels like a potscrubber and it's scraping off a layer of my skin. Seriously, I have almost no tolerance for scratchy fabrics.

You're probably going to have to try on a lot of silver tops to find one that doesn't feel scratch/itchy, but I like the idea of it with these pants!

I am sensitive to fabrics. Over the course of the past two or three years I had to scratch multiple fabric types off my list. I don't even try them now.

My thought is to start early, be prepared to try on lots of them and see if any can work. I do know that J Crew metallics will not work for me. They ALL are itchy against my skin. I had hopes that Eileen Fisher might work. I passed up a gorgeous linen camisole earlier this year. I don't even remember what my reason was for walking away. Perhaps I hadn't yet formulated an outfit in my head?

Sterling - I am very hit or miss with linen being too itchy. Almost all knit linen doesn't work, but I did find one this summer that does. For me, it included going up in price point, although that's never a guarantee.

I like your idea of a silver support act. But for the holidays, don't overlook a black top and shoes for these pants either. Throw in the silver clutch and pearls.

I might end up going with black because it will be easier.
