Holiday hats, an accidental capsule.

Holiday, as in, a short break away from home, rather than festive-themed.

We had a family weekend away, and I accidentally packed four hats! It's Summer, so sun protection is a serious business, but this was overkill.
The battered straw coloured hat lives in the car, and I left the larger green hat there in preparation. I packed the light 'gear' hat to wear in the water, then threw in the smallest hat forgetting I had the other two in the car.
Anyway, I wore all of them at least for a short stint.

The funny part of the story is that on the way home I was laughing at my pile of hats and commented to my husband that I didn't mean to pack *four* hats. His reply: "I packed four hats" and Master 11, "I packed four hats, too"

Anyone else overpack? Or does your family think it entirely reasonable?

Love your hat capsule. I believe in sun protection. Why not make it fashionable and fun?! I also tend to overpack, especially when our vacation is a "road trip". The car becomes an extension of my suitcase.

That's funny about your family's hats! Sun protection is serious. In my area, skin cancer treatment is a growth industry. We live at 4700 feet in elevation so the air is a little thinner, and because the weather is nice, people are out golfing, skiing, etc. all the time.

It sounds like you guys have your priorities figured out LOL. I do over pack, just not hats. My problem is shoes. Always more shoes than I could ever possibly wear while I'm traveling

It is always hard to have enough hats in my experience! So I've never packed 4 - but I've packed one and then lost it and had to buy another one. I'll probably take 2 on my next summer holiday.

Like Cynthia I tend to take more shoes than I need. Anything to keep the feet happy. I now live over a mile high so need to expand the hat capsule.

That is a great hat capsule. Better safe then sorry for sure. I tend tooverpack, pretty much all the time. I have tried planning and packing outfits for every single occasion during the trip, but then I always throw in some extra items just in case

Lovely hats! If I'm going on a beach vacation, I almost always overpack hats. For other kinds of vacations, I over pack almost everything else, especially shoes.

They are great hats. I would always take at least 2 hats (a sun hat and a cap). I think I tend to under pack. I get there and I always wish I had brought more.

El Cee, the car sure is like a large suitcase! I try to leave a bit of room to bring home shopping, though.
Maneera, Cynthia and Joy, I wasn't going to mention the shoes. My friend had a family holiday at this same beach location, two weeks before us, and told me she'd only packed one pair of shoes. Do you think I could do the same? No! Packed running shoes, sandals and my "dress crocs" and only wore the crocs. I better find a pic of them, so you don't think I'm too crazy.
ETA pic of crocs that don't look like crocs. Perfect for me for the beach, wet play with kids etc etc. Humour me?

JAileen, yes there is a big health and beauty sector here treating sun damage, too. Nearly all the kids at the waterpark were wearing sun safe rashies, but many parents were still in sleeveless tops and without hats!

Anne, I am still searching for the perfect hat. It's such a nuisance to lose things while on holiday.

Tanya, I am all about those just in case items! I take the extras, and then often buy something, too. I like to feel prepared.

Brooklyn, I only meant to take 2 hats, one for the water and one to stay dry. This could be the first time that my husband has planned to take more of a wardrobe item than I did. I bet your luggage is a lot lighter than mine : )
