This is a very simple, not particularly fashion forward outfit that had an extremely high happiness factor, so I thought I'd analyze why it was such a success (for me).
Basically I'm wearing a pair of boyfriend jeans, a purple knit jumper/pullover, a silk scarf and a tweed jacket, paired with my new shooties and a statement-y necklace.
First of all the pieces fit well and are extremely comfortable physically. No need to pull or tug at my clothing during the day, they stay where they are supposed to. While nothing will make me look tall and thin, these pieces do a good job making the most of what I've got. Plus the colors are good for me - they are bright, yet somehow I don't stand out in them. Secondly, except for the new shoes, all the pieces have been in my wardrobe for quite some time (the jacket is about 10 years old, I think), and feel like old friends. Third, the necklace was a gift from a good friend, and I love that she saw this piece at an estate sale, thought that it would be perfect for me, bought it, and then kept it for months until my birthday.
And then there's my "East Meets Wild Wild West" aspirational style statement, and this getup ticks most of my boxes without being costume-y or over the top. The wild west is the jeans and rawhide booties. The east is the necklace and silk scarf (made from an old sari). The second wild is meant to denote a sort of 19th century fantasy feel, and the tweed jacket hits that note.
Maybe the best thing about this outfit is that it came together with no real thought or struggle. I had an early morning dental appointment, and I rolled out of bed, pulled on some weather appropriate things, and was out the door before I had a chance to analyze. Probably I need to do that more often, because, as you can see, I over-analyze things to DEATH.
Well if you made it through all that, thanks for reading! I love having a place where I can write interminably about a simple outfit and know that at least someone will appreciate it!
