I'm waiting to see the next batch, and don't mind the blotchy un-eveness either.

You are having FUN with fashion. Bring it on

Rose is catching up!

Thanks for the interest everyone. I have dyed a couple of more swatches and will post the results tonight. Then it’s decision time because I’ve run out of swatches!

JAileen, I think you are right. I’ve just been putting the swatches in a bucket of dye and walking away. I think that explains the splotches. I hope I don’t get splotches in the final dye.

Janet, that’s a great skirt. If it’s viscose it will dye, although I’ve found it tends to require more dye than cotton, silk or wool. Just remember that the original colour will affect the outcome. It’s not like dyeing white. I’ve dyed a few things now to change their look, but mostly white or cream items. It’s harder to predict the outcome with prints.

Ok all the samples are in! So here are the choices. Be aware that the colour may not be as saturated in the final result. (I will have to be careful not to use too much dye as it might overwhelm the pattern.)

No 1. Pink (rose quartz plus a little eggplant).

No 2. Blue (evening blue).

I also tried evening blue + teal but the blue overwhelmed the teal. I’ll include it here as another example of blue.

No 3. Teal.

No 4. A wildcard. Aquamarine.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts

I like the wildcard, but then I am very much a fan of turquoise.

Teal first, then aquamarine then evening blue. But the teal is not really teal like your usual is it?- like it wouldn’t match the famous teal bag would it? Could perhaps “go” as per one of your palette swatches though??

Jenni, it’s a light teal and I prefer a dark teal, but I think a dark teal would overwhelm the pattern and make the whole look too dark. Teal can of course lean either blue or green. I like both (although green would be more flattering near my face). In fact I haven’t met a teal I didn’t like. See finds for potential complements. I held up the swatch to some of these, and it looked like they would work together in a tonal way (to my eye). So did aquamarine.

And haha to “famous” teal bag

Bijou, aquamarine is a contender. I’m surprised how much I like it. It pops!

Another vote for blue ‍♀️

I like the pink version most, then the teal. How about red/burgundy?

ST, I have RIT wine, but I think it might be too dark for the print. I need a lighter colour otherwise the print is overwhelmed. I tried a darker blend of eggplant and rose first (more like a plum) and it just wiped out the print.

Brooklyn, what a fun project! You are way more creative than I am on my hiatuses!

I vote teal if it harmonizes with your other teals, or else the rose quartz. These seem the most "Brooklyn" to me, your palette has beautiful depth and complexity that I'm not feeling from the clearer blue (that one is beautiful too though and reminds me of Janet!)

What a fun project! I love the rose but the teal is pretty too. Tough decision!

Wow, I never thought to overdye something to lower the contrast, but is such a brilliant idea, now I love both- pinkish a bit more, but this will not help-I love a midis-maxis lengths! Pls show us the end results and styling!

I vote teal then blue

Teal for the win as a softer contrast, then maybe prink or aquamarine (it's brighter for sure ). Fun results!

I think they all look good. So go with your gut.

Teal!! Followed by the blue then the aquamarine. The blue options look more intentional to me, compared to the pink (I should also confess that I love all shades of blue, and can only tolerate pink in small doses, so that may be coloring my opinion!). The teal is gorgeous and will integrate beautifully into your wardrobe.

Teal! Love the color it turned out and that it seems to bring out the pattern rather than overwhelm it. Second choice, blue.

TEAL!

And then the wildcard Aquamarine

Teal...followed by any of the blues.

Rose. Then Aquamarine.

Oh, I think they’re all great, but I do like the teal, and all the blues. I think teal wins for you, considering your excellent teal complement.

The skirt I mentioned doesn’t have the fabric content tag anymore but it’s a stretchy jersey, tee-like material. I suspect it would dye well but my experience with dyeing is very, very limited!

I like the aquamarine or teal. The blue is lovely but maybe not as easy in your closet.

Great fun experiment that has me thinking!!

I like the colours just as they are. But I can imagine that more teal would be more "you."

Moreover, I think that the upper part of the dress looks really gorgeous. Are you able to save it--or at least a part of it--and wear it as a top with bottoms that are either solid-coloured or has a more quiet print?

Thanks everyone. A lot of love for teal with some solid support for rose and aquamarine.

I’m going to exclude blue. Not because I don’t like it (I do) but I think it will be a harder fit for my wardrobe (as many of you have said). I already have one blue floral skirt and I think that’s enough for me for now.

The Cat, I thought about that with the top but I don’t think it will work. It became very cropped after I took off the skirt part plus the (rose?) placement of the pattern is right on my bust. I’m a fair bit older than when I bought the dress (2009) and that kind of bothers me now. I am happy that I have been able to utilise the top half of the dress to do these test swatches.

No firm decision on the colour yet. I have changed my mind several times as both teal and aubergine are favourites for me. Plus I really like the aquamarine. Dye-lemmas, ha ha!

Anyhow, I will definitely post pics when I’ve done the deed. The big reveal. It will be fun!

Teal and aquamarine are neck and neck! Both color combos look very rich and deliberate.

So in the end, I cast my vote for whichever fits in best with your current wardrobe, and sparks the greatest joy.

I think the burgundy would work best of these with your current wardrobe, but if you had another test swatch, I’d suggest using green to get a teal green result.

You can't go wrong. To my eyes any of these will be amazing.
