Help me with new jacket

So, I got the new jackets I talked about here. Thing is, I'm just not sure on the fit of it? I don't mind some wearing ease, but it feels just on the edge of being too large; see photo 5. And then photo 3 shows how much ease and overlap there is. (This is an open jacket with no zipper or buttons, just showing ease in case it's helpful.) I feel it was a size smaller I would like it more? But the thing is, I can't find it in the next size smaller.

Chico's has some odd sizing. This is their size 3. I then bought a size 2 not realizing they have a size 2.5. The size 3 feels sloppy somehow, but the size 2 is too small. This style has not yet appeared in a size 2.5 anywhere in thrift/resale land.

Here are a couple of outfits I've tried it with. I haven't tried it on with all my new summer clothes yet. I'm babysitting a friend's kids today so wont' be able to try on more. But this weekend I can try it with more outfits and post those, if that's helpful.

Kind of wondering if I should let this one go and try a different jacket/topper?? City Chic and Eloquii haven't had anything that sparks my interest; I really like a bomber or moto style jacket. I can choose other brands, but these brands really fit me well right now.

I like it! I personally wouldn't wear a jacket like this closed, so I don't mind that it overlaps a lot when closed (since I'd never wear it that way anyway). I also wouldn't wear this jacket with the sleeves of a shirt showing at the cuffs. Since this has a tab sleeve cuff, I'd let that be the focal point on my arm.

My one beef with jackets is the shoulders/across the back. That must fit correctly, as long as that part is comfortable, then I think you are good for the fit.

It is a cute jacket, but the size makes it different from your regular style. This has sort of a professor/blazer feel, like a naturalist collecting river samples in the Amazon.

Optimally, if you could try the 2.5, then you could decide between the two. I do think this looks good, you just have to think if if it is "you."

Lisa, good points. This fit almost feels too big even across the shoulders. Idk...I feel a big dragged down when wearing it both in style and in size. Not sure if that makes sense??

Carol, oh your word picture is so so awesome! That's exactly how I feel wearing it, tbh. Chico's style tends to be more natural/naturalist in general, which did give me pause when I considered buying it; he color and style seemed like it would overcome that and be good. Yet, here I am, not loving it like I had hoped. It just doesn't feel like me. I want it to be me as the color is glorious and the fabric is delicious. But it just feels to naturalist, as you put it.

I think it is too big. Hang in for the 2.5 size if you love it that much. Carol I love your imagination. Your comment made me laugh out loud :). Now that you said that I do get Harrison Ford's Assistant vibes somewhere in South America. For the life of me I cannot remember the name of that 80s movie. UPDATE: Assistant to Indiana Jones

A nicer version of a utility jacket? I’m all in, even though I’ve never been in the Amazon basin. I would try the in between size. At the very least it might put your mind to rest about the sizing. Or maybe this version isn’t quite right.

From what I can see in these pics, the relaxed jacket is a great fit. Modern and easy.

That said Ket, I encourage the comparing of sizes if you feel the fit is off. The right fit becomes abundantly clear that way.

Ket - Yes, I follow you. I do wonder if this style of jacket is what you are looking for? I know you've mentioned moto and bomber styles in the past, and both of those will have more structure to them. This style of jacket is very flowy, reminding me of a cardigan. It may not be the style you seek for a jacket. If you want something soft, I'd look for a knit version of a bomber or moto. I added both for spring this season. They have the softness I wanted but still some "structure" to the look.

I also think it's worth trying this jacket in a smaller size, just in case the size is the issue.

I’m not sure. It’s an awesome colour on you. I wonder if it’s a bit too cropped, which I mainly notice in pic 2, horizontal line right across your backside. That could be improved by a longer top underneath possibly?
My favourite pic is #7, it looks great with that top, the colours suit you, which I can see in #6. The jacket really brings out your eye colour and the top your lips.
I think overall it’s good but depends on how many other toppers you have for summer. If not many, it could turn into a workhorse? Make sure you like it enough you won’t reach for your clove cardigan in preference?!

Star, I agree. Something about it feels too big. I like fluid ease, but this just feels -- hmm... sloppy? It doesn't feel good to me despite adoring the color so, so much!

JAileen, I like the idea of a untitle jacket though I've never been attracted to one to wear. If I can find the size in-between I might give it another try though.

Angie, always the voice of wisdom I will keep hunting resale sights and see if I can find the next size smaller. I do like modern but this jacket just feels sloppy to me somehow. Can't put my finger on why...

Lisa, ooo! I see what you mean. I actually have been wondering about knitting this jacket. Sort of a moto jacket?? But knit so it would more drapey/sensual. Then again, the lines of the knitted jacket might not really be any different from the green linen jacket in question.

Jenni, I too love the color!! The fabric is actually super duper comfortable. BUT... I can't say I would reach for this jacket over my clove cardigan! So that's a helpful insight you have provided.

Drat, I can't access the link. But a knitted jacket probably doesn't have anymore structure to it then this open style flowy one.

I had one more thought, if you are thinking a jacket for hotter weather with structure, perhaps a twill is another option. The jackets that get the most use for me in hot temps is twill and denim. I put mine in the finds.

I find in general I see moto style jackets most often during the fall. But perhaps you can find a moto vest in summer collections if a jacket is turning into a dead end and you really want a moto style for summer.

Ket, the fact that you're not sure kind of makes the decision for me ... I really like it tbh but I think if it's not a heck yes then it's a no (unless it is such a need that you can't wait for one that feels better).

I have learned over time that my first impression, if I focus on feelings, is usually right. If you have misgivings, send it back and wait for one that feels better.

I am with Helena and SW Ann here. The color and concept are great on you, but I feel like you are never going to feel fab wearing this jacket. Set an alert for 2.5 and/or keep an eye out for something similar.

I actually like this jacket on you a lot. The photo of the back looks like a great fit for this loosely structured style. It's not drooping or too wide looking. The color is amazing on you.

But do I picture Sophia Loren in it? No. I think it's a little off your usual style, which may be why you are unsure about it. It's a piece that will cover up your more closely fitted tops or dresses that you wear underneath it.

Lisa, very true re: knitted jacket lacking structure. I wondered about that. Thank you for giving me some more ideas!! Maybe I"ll have to let the right topper find me... At the very least, I'll have to see what else is out there.

Helena, SW Ann, Jaime, thank you for such lovely wisdom! I can't send it back, but I'm going to re-attach the tag and put it on Posh. I love the color so very much, but it just isn't making me shout for joy, let alone purr a little "hmmm..."

Sharan, ooo! "Would Sophia Loren wear this??" is such a great way to phrase it and a lovely way to approach it! I think the hunt is on... for something Sophia would wear!

Cat2, it does feel too unstructured and drapey. I like those characteristics in knits or kimonos, but not in what are supposed to be structured jackets.

I know you mentioned bomber or moto, but I can see you in a belted safari style with wide lapels. Like a classic trench, but shorter and casual.

Late to this, but I see your hesitation. I do think the smaller size would work better, so I agree with Cat2 and Jaime and the others — pay attention to how you feel in it. That never leads me wrong!

I’m also late to the conversation but agree that if you have any misgivings you are unlikely to wear it, and should pass. I love the color so finding something that color would be great.

Janet and Staysfit, never late I agree. How one feels is ultimately the best denominator and decider. Maybe I'll find a sensational jacket that fits AND is a good style on me. And if it was in this fabulous green, I would maybe consider turning a cartwheel We'll see what finds me... I with the color and fabric weren't so good. It would make letting the jacket go very easy.
