Topper Help! Update: Got both

Update: bought both jackets in a moment of weakness and seller discount offers. will report back!

I've been needing and looking for a summer topper. A few year ago I had a Sanctuary linen bomber in soft olive that I adored!! It's gone now but I find myself wishing I had it. What's odd is round-collar jackets usually aren't good on me, but this one was. (Perhaps because of the drape from the linen?)

In my online thrifting, I found two possibilities.

Which one should I get? Option 3 is to get both and resale the one that doesn't resonate.

Photo 1-2: Chico's Moto Jacket in stretch linen and rayon blend. Really rich, deep olive. Not a bomber jacket but I really love the look and feel. It has a lot of beautiful waist shaping in the back. Very flattering for my body shape.

Photo 2: Sanctuary Bomber Jacket in a 65/35 Tencel/linen blend. A lovely mid-tone olive. It's not my exact bomber but it's extremely close. (They've probably updated the style some.)

Would love my fellow fabbers thoughts. This is a topper I will likely wear to death all summer long on cooler evenings.

You can't go wrong with either option, but I feel the bomber style is a bit more on trend. I have a bomber I picked up this season for spring in tan and I've really liked it to freshen up my outfits. (You can see it in outfit #1 in this post)

Wow!!! I missed your WIW post for that one. Stellar outfit! It’s one of your best, Lisa Agree that a bomber jacket is more on trend.

And I have a thing for 1980s Top Gun. My father was Air Force so there is some emotional connection to a bomber jacket for me. :}

The bomber seems like a no brainer since you loved it before and it sounds like it still appeals.

I do really like the moto jacket. It has kind of safari vibes to me. I am pondering a bit of a Katharine Clifton thing for summer so that one really calls to me. I might be biased!

Surely you need more than one summer topper in the mountains? At altitude, as soon as the sun goes down it’s autumn…

Well, the second one looks very close to the departed bomber, but I must admit I do like the first one. The deeper olive colour looks very dark autumn. And the lapel neckline looks flattering. Is the first one fairly cropped? I think the length of a jacket is critical for wearing with dresses. I would be tempted to get both and do a try on. Maybe you could even justify keeping both

Sarah surely I could use two Having never heard of Katherine Clifton I immediately googled. Oh wow! Glad you mentioned her. I love her wardrobe. Her safari coat feels so similar to this one too.

Brooklyn you know, I do actually like the first one more and more. It would be a much better cut and color on me. The first one isn’t cropped. The seller lists length at 27 in, so longer length, probably low hip or thigh crease length on me. (Haven’t measured yet.) If the bomber fits like the last one, it’s shorter but not cropped, probably landing at high hip area. I can always justify a clothing purchase

It will be interesting to see how they work in real life.

The bomber comes with a poly satin lining, whichI didn’t realize until after purchasing. (Of course.) Poly defeats the purpose of it being a summer jacket. I could always remove it if I hate it. Or save the jacket for autumn. And maybe, once I try it on, I’ll realize my heart isn’t into the bomber as much as the memory of the bomber.

The safari moto jacket is a longer length: 27 inches. I typically prefer my jackets a smidge shorter. Haven’t measured yet, but that is taking the jacket to anywhere from 2 inches above thigh crease to right at or slightly below thigh crease, better known as My Widest Hip Point. However, sometimes a longer jacket can be very flattering over dresses because it doesn’t break the silhouette in equal halves (like the bomber jacket might do). The color is also likely going to be really good on me. And the fabric being stretch linen intrigues me, as does the neckline and collar.

Thinking I’ll do a small edit if I keep both. Probably remove the olive military jacket that I don’t love wearing. (I truly love the idea of it but never seem to actually enjoy wearing it.) Also might remove a blouse or two I never wore this winter but waffling on that a bit.
