Help Me Choose Sunglasses

I ordered a try-on box of sunglasses from Warby Parker and narrowed it down to two pairs that I liked, but I haven't been able to commit to one or the other. Can you all help me?

One of these pairs was the unanimous vote of my husband, my son, and the close friends we had visiting when I did the try-on. The other pair is the one I'm leaning towards, but I can't tell if it's just me being contrarian. I'm not going to say which is which so I don't bias anyone.

What do you think? I'm not committed to either one, so if the verdict is "keep looking," I'm open to that, as well.

I vote for the 2nd pair but I can't articulate why ... my instinct is that the pattern on the first one reads a touch busy for you ... or it somehow visually pulls you down whereas pair two lifts you up somehow.

Curious to see what others say and what your pick was!

oooh, this is hard! #1 could be fun, but #2 is classic.

I'm going to say #2, but that's because I think you won't tire of them. Also, remembering some of your WIWs, I think #2 fits more with your style.

I should add that I will probably do black/gray lenses with either pair, mostly as a preference for how things look through them. Voting is a perfect split right now.

I really love 1! But take it with a grain of salt... I have a pair of blonde tortoise sunnies too. Just slightly obsessed.

I like them both. Like Lisa, I'm wondering whether 1 works as well with your wardrobe. But if it does, it seems like a fun choice.

I like the higher contrast look of the first. Really, I want you to have gold frames, but that’s my fave of these 2

Stagiaire Fash, I see where you're going with the gold frames, but I avoid metal-framed glasses because the nosepads get stuck in my hair when I push them on top of my head. Drives me crazy!

LJP and Suz, I'm curious about your thoughts on #1 and my wardrobe. Are you thinking the light accents in the tortoise might be too much with my black?

I'll reveal that my friends and family all voted for #2 and my gut choice was #1.

Not too much with all of your black , but maybe out of sync with your printed kimono/ other pieces . Or am I imagining more print in your closet than there is ? I think a brown tortoise would be a little softer ..

What Lisa said. I was thinking of them next to some of the boho prints and wondering if they'd compete. But note that what counts as "competition" or clash to one person counts as a fab pattern mix to another! I'm actually an eager pattern mixer, myself. So it isn't that...just a question, really.

What Jaime said! They both look good to my eye, so it's a matter of whether you prefer ALGO in your sunglasses right now, or something more subdued. I think they would both work for your wardrobe.

Lisa and Suz, I get it now. That makes total sense. I think you're right that they won't work with some of my patterns. I think they'll be great with some of them (see below) but maybe too much with something like the orange kimono. I think those pieces are a small enough part of my wardrobe I'm willing to risk the clash.

I've really been feeling MORE with eyewear recently--you wouldn't believe how many in-person compliments I get on my new, bold glasses. I appreciate all the thoughts and comments, and it's confirmed for me that this choice is more of a toss-up than maybe my family led me to believe.

I have had that happen with metal readers, thought maybe “real” glasses would be better. Don’t do that to yourself!

Will you keep your older, “quieter” glasses as backup? That’s one more reason to go for the pattern.

Hmm, I feel like they're both good, and that sometimes you'll want the quieter pair and other times the bolder ones. I know that's the case for me, and the reason I have more than one pair of sunglasses -- they're prescription so not cheap, but well worth it, IMHO because it also means I have a backup in case a pair gets broken or lost.

Yeah, I think you’re right, Janet, it does make sense to have more than one pair. Thankfully, I can get away with single-vision for sunglasses, so even though they’re prescription, they’re not quite as expensive as my everyday specs.

That is good, Jenn! I have a progressive prescription so I can see distances and close up, with my regular glasses and my sunglasses, so it gets pricey!
