Help: Chic or Dorothy from Golden Girls?

I’m trying volume over volume lately, inspired by Deb abs some of the outfits Angie has featured.…I like this look but not sure if it veers too old. Feels great but also like I should be on a lanai in Miami…what do you think?

I think it works! But you have to be comfortable in it.

ETA: the reason I think it works is that your shape isn’t completely tented; your legs are visible. The whole thing looks flowing; I think movement is key to a good look (as long as it doesn’t actually move right down your shoulder or otherwise make problems when you do stuff). And of course those colors are great on you.

I think the outfit works quite well and has great movement. I would happily wear it! The colors are particularly lovely on you, Roxanna. Fashintern, is spot on with the comment that you have to be comfortable with the look. Also, I'll join you on the lanai with a G & T!

Okay, back to your actual question :)! I don't think it looks Golden Girls-esque at all, and the colors look gorgeous on you. What shoes would you wear? If you wanted to showcase the sweater but still do volume on the bottom, you could wear voluminous pants in a coordinating color (can't tell if the sweater is black or navy).

Agreeing that the colors are made for you and it's not at all Dorothy, just flowy and relaxed. I would jump at that top if I saw it. Then, much of my wardrobe is aquired with a fantasy cocktail party on the deck in mind...

Ms Dream, shall I bring you some prawn toast with sesame seeds to accompany your beverage, or do you prefer cucumber sandwiches?

The genius part of the colors in the top is how many different directions it goes with them; you wear it with rust perfectly. I’d probably match the teal green just under your chin, or maybe the periwinkle blue further down. That blue might work with medium wash jeans, and then it has traditional neutrals black and white (or is that ivory?)

Why I think it works: Dorothy usually wore collars, high collars, or collars flipped up. She work stiffer, bulkier fabrics, often vests or even a jacket over the top.

You have on a wider, uncomplicated neckline--aren't trying to hide anything such as your neck. The silhouette is much narrower, and is silky and flowing, designed to let your shape show through as you move around, and not hide anything.

My 2¢ worth.

Looks like a lovely relaxing outfit to me.

This was worn for a Father’s Day lunch I am hosting, so I wanted something easy with movement.

Top is Nexxt - thrifted (sorry @Jonesy! I love landscape patterns too - they are so hard to find!)
Culottes are Eileen Fisher from The Bay (on sale now and SO comfortable!)

I like it! I think the color palette keeps it looking modern and *you* — pastels would be a whole different story. I love the pattern in the top. I bet trendy sandals would be perfect with it.

This is why this look is flattering on you to my eye:
- you added structure with slim sleeves and well fitted neckline of the top
- your pants are cropped and keep the overall shape from being overwhelming
I use the same rules when wearing volume over volume.
You also picked a beautiful color combination.

I had to laugh because I have been comparing my hair to Maude lately. Bea Arthur made quite an impression!
Anyway, no you do not look at all like you belong at the rummykub table . I love the colors on you and how they represent your beach palette and mix warm and cool shades. Love your hair pulled back too - you look gorgeous!

I often wonder the same about certain combinations, Roxana, so I'm right there with you. My solution is often to "street" the look up a little by wearing cool sneakers or another item that Dorothy wouldn't have been caught dead in.

You know what I mean? If you put this outfit with Golden Goose sneakers or maybe Common Projects, you're in good shape but if you go for jeweled mules, not so much.

The shape and drape make these voluminous pieces work really well, to my eye. And I agree that the colours are *so* good on you and keep the outfit well out of Miami retiree territory. Love April's idea for sneakers.
