Happy St. Patrick's day and a ? for NYers

Hi Fabbers! Pulling out all the stops today (Boss is out of town.) LOL. DH did a double take and then said, well, you can pull it off. Lots of funny comments at work today but it was love at first sight when I saw this print. It's basically a neutral, I'm pretty sure.

The question: DD is going to NY at the end of March/first week of April and she's going back and forth on coats. The weather says 40s and 50's during the day--does she need a long puffer for sight seeing? Is it that kind of cold or just lots of layers kind of cold? Neither of us have anything suitable for non-CA winters so any suggestions would be welcome. TIA!

Love the print on your overalls!

There won’t be any need for a serious long puffer coat at that time of year. I’ve been wearing my lightweight short puffer for the last couple of weeks. We’ve had a few days in the 60s and I wore a long cardigan. I’d recommend a lightweight coat and or layers.

Oh, and good walking shoes too!

YES, you 100% pull it off - and with Docs too. Panache and verve! Hubs is a keeper. Your polish is impeccable.

As for NYC then, a lighter-weight puffer is a good idea (no need for an arctic one!). Can be short. Or a wool coat. Warm Trench - like we wear in Seattle. Same temperatures.

From my own wardrobe, I'd bring these for those temperatures. Plus Spring scarves and a beanie for the wind:

You are so cute! But I’m amazed that hubby could be surprised—how on earth did he not notice that print in the closet?

I’m no help on your question—I asked exactly the same thing before we were there in Sept, so I totally get how you need to know how that temp feels *there*, with whatever wind, humidity, and other factors affect it, not those temps in a “featureless plain”.

As for DD: Keep in mind that she may feel the cold more than those who are used to the NY climate. Keeping head and pulse points (wrist, neck, ankles) warm can work wonders in keeping one warm. Also, does she run hot or cold?

You’re a fresh breath of spring KG, and look amazing in the overalls. What a great colour/ pattern and I love the pairing with the grey sweater.
We used to travel to NYC frequently, our last visit was end of March 2019. Just looking at some photos and I see my son is wearing leather bomber jacket layered with a hoody and I’m layering a uniqlo puffer under an all weather jacket. I’d rather be too warm than cold, and with layers you can easily adjust. Happy travels to your DD!

I grew up in NYC, visit there pretty often. What Angie suggested: thin down jacket (short) to layer under a
wool coat would be good, or a leather jacket. Bring a beanie and gloves.
And a lightweight scarf.
I always use a crossbody bag to keep hands free.
If she’s going to be inside, or on the subway, she doesn’t want to be schlepping a big puffer coat in her arms. Hope she has loads of fun!

You look gorgeous in these overalls, the print is fabulous and they are perfectly styled. What a fun wardrobe wildcard!

Travelling to cooler temps is tricky because I really feel the cold, far more so than the locals. However, when I do lots of walking that keeps me warm, so wearing layers is useful to adjust to the changing temperatures during the day and evening (when it really gets cold). A puffer or leather jacket tends to work well for me when layered with thermals.

For DD, a lightweight puffer for warmth and something that cuts the wind as a topper over the puffer, and a warm beanie. I’ve been wearing double (micro) puffers with success.

Thanks so much for your comments! We feel sorted on the coat situation now too. DD had ordered a puffer coat and the minute I saw it in person, I thought it was a mistake. She’s going to borrow my Uniqlo puffer as a layer and bring a hip length jacket or coat. Seems much more practical especially with all the walking she will likely be doing.

@SF: Haha. Thank you. DH doesn’t notice much when it comes to clothes in the closet. He usually only notices when he doesn’t like something or it’s out of the ordinary.

@Rachy, Donna, Madeline and Bijou: Thank you! She definitely runs cold but she’s planning on wearing leggings under her jeans so that will add some extra warmth. Gloves, beanie and scarves will be in rotation too. The crossbody tip is smart too. She was pickpocketed in SF recently so that’s something I will reminder her about—wear it under the coat!

Seems like your daughter is sorted re. what to bring to NYC. I agree that layers are key! It could be warm and sunny, or cold and windy, or rainy, or a combination...

Those camo overalls are fab on you! Do I spy some blue in the pattern too?

As a slight aside (since you've now sorted it) I believe Universal Standard does a 4-in-1 puffer, with a zip-off hood & 'skirt' etc. Might be useful in both climates in the future!
